A lot of OCD intrusive thoughts are very terrible sexual ones involving the potential to harm loved ones...except these thoughts make YOU suffer, not other people. They aren’t true desires and beliefs; they’re called “intrusive” for a reason.

I’ve literally isolated myself out of fear from my intrusive thoughts, assuming I would hurt someone if I got close. So, it’s disappointing, to say the least, that people will think of you as terrible for what your mental illness already makes you feel terrible.

She’s not in Medical blue, a caretaking, feminine role.

I'm so tired of every single act of love and affection and care between two characters being taken as romantic like please I am Begging you let friends exist. this mindset seeps into the real actual world n has a negative affect in the real actual world n has yall shipping real life people because you don't understand how friends work and think that two people liking each other and having fun together must mean they're In Love

n I've talked about this before but romanticizing and sexualizing all expressions of love and affection also results in fictional sibling relationships being stripped of their intimacy. no one can portray siblings cuddling or kissing each other on the cheek or sleeping in the same bed because it will Automatically be perceived as romantic or sexual. this also has a negative affect on the real actual world, as proven by the dozens and dozens of people on my last post about this saying that seeing this being done to fictional siblings made them uncomfortable expressing affection and sharing intamacy w their siblings in Real Life which is honestly one of the most heart breaking things I've ever heard

One day, she was resting her head on my boyfriend’s shoulder (as she had before we were dating) and my roommate pulled me aside and said I HAD TO STOP IT.

“Why?”

“Doesn’t it bother you?”

“No?”

“It should! She’s all over him!”

“She just being affectionate. She does the same to me.”

poc stands for people of color and person of color. “pocs” is wrong.

it’s not “poc characters,” it’s characters of color.

Stop-Motion Moana

“We can rebuild her… We have the technology… We know the way!”

A few months ago I ripped apart a Moana doll and made it into a stop-motion puppet using a kinetic armature kit.  

The walk cycle above was the first thing I animated with this puppet, and was just a throw-away practice test with no green screen. I had never done a walk cycle in stop-motion before and soon discovered how difficult animating a straight-ahead cycle within a localized space with no retakes could be.

I showed the cycle to my dad while he was holding my Moana puppet in his hand and he seemed more impressed with this crappy test than the actual animation I did on the movie! I think the combination of him holding the puppet, and then seeing it come to life on the video before him was what blew him away. I guess that’s the appeal and magic of stop-motion. :)

I read that it’s best to have the foot joints nice and tight to hold the weight of the puppet, and have the arms looser.  It’s amazing how much weight those toe and foot ball-joints could hold for the falling poses:

Hi everyone. I’m Kei, 18, she/her, and I am a writer on Tumblr and Ao3 from the Philippines. Currently I write mostly Sanders Sides-related fics. So, let me introduce you to my aunt.

This is our Tita (aunt) Maricar. She is the eldest of five siblings. She is a loving wife and a mother to one daughter, who we can safely say she loves and cares about with every fiber of her being. Tita Maricar stood as the breadwinner of her small family, continuing to work in a government office despite the dangers of Covid-19 in our country to be able to provide. 

Despite taking all the necessary health and safety precautions, she began to suffer flu-like symptoms, and was eventually admitted to a hospital in the Philippines last July 14, Covid positive. Since then, her health has deteriorated; suffering from a cardiac arrest, rupturing an artery due to an aneurysm, and falling into a coma.

Her condition required her to stay in the Intensive Care Unit for four (4) weeks, needing help from sixteen (16) doctors of varying specializations. She has since been moved to a private room, but until now she still remains confined. 

As of August 16, total hospital bills have reached two million, four hundred eighty-two thousand, one hundred thirteen pesos (Php2,482,113) or fifty-thousand nine hundred ninety dollars (USD 50,990) excluding professional fees. Covid has made the economic situation of the country fall recently, and it has become increasingly difficult for her husband and newly-graduated daughter to find employment. Our family is standing under the weight of all the expenses, and we are in dire need of help.

Our Tita Maricar is one of the strongest women I know. She’s fought any and all problems in her life head-on, standing firm through every hurdle and brave in the face of uncertainties. I’ve known her to have a mind sharp as steel, a smile bright enough to light up the corners of the darkest, murkiest rooms, a hand ever open and almost never closed, and a heart big enough to carry love that went beyond the walls of their home.

So you build your protagonist. She has no personality traits beyond being decently strong-willed, so that her quirks and interesting traits absolutely can’t get in the way of the audience’s projection onto her. She is dainty, birdlike, beautiful despite her protestations that she is ugly–yet she can still hold her own against significantly taller and stronger combatants. She is the perfect mask for the bashful, insecure tweens you are marketing to to wear while they read.

You think, as you draft your novel, that you need to add something that appeals to the basest nature of teenagers, something this government does that will be perversely appealing to them. The Hunger Games’ titular games were the main draw of the books, despite the hatred its characters hold for the event. So the government forces everyone into Harry Potter houses. 

So the government makes everyone choose their faction, their single personality trait. Teenagers and tweens are basic–they likely identify by one distinct personality trait or career aspiration, and they’ll thus be enchanted by this system. For years, Tumblr and Twitter bios will include Erudite or Dauntless alongside Aquarius and Ravenclaw and INTJ. Congratulations, you just made having more than one personality trait anathema to your worldbuilding. 

Your readers and thus your protagonist are naturally drawn to the faction that you have made RIDICULOUSLY cooler and better than the others: Dauntless. The faction where they play dangerous games of Capture the Flag and don’t work and act remarkably like teenagers with a budget. You add an attractive, tall man to help and hinder the protagonist. He is brooding and handsome; he doesn’t need to be anything else. 

The villains appear soon afterward. They are your tried and true dystopian government: polished, sleek, intelligent, headed by a woman for some reason. They fight the protagonists, they carry out their evil, Machiavellian, stupid plan. You finish the novel with duct tape and fanservice, action sequences and skin and just enough glue and spit to seal the terrible, hollow world you have made shut just long enough to put it on the shelf. 

And you have just destroyed YA dystopian literature. Because you have boiled it down to its bare essentials. A sleek, futuristic government borrowing its aesthetic from modern minimalism and wealth forces the population to participate in a perversely cool-to-read-about system like the Hunger Games or the factions, and one brave, slender, pretty, hollow main character is the only one brave–no, special enough to stand against it. 

but divergent was clumsy make-believe the whole way through. it aped the forms and functions of dystopian lit but the writer didn’t actually have any real, passionate, sincere anger to put on the page. she didn’t know what it was talking about, so she didn’t have anything worth listening to.

You contrast that with how the marketing for the Hunger Games films directly contradicts the messaging of the text, and how Divergent seems ready-made for the big screen, and it becomes really apparent why the genre folded in on itself. Capitalism tried to recuperate dystopian fiction criticizing capitalism, and in doing so, butchered the genre.
