Story So Far

An unnamed, neutral outlier with prophetic abilities demanded an audience with Autobot and Decepticon leadership, informing them that Unicron was coming and it was only through the power of all thirteen Matrices that he could be defeated. There was a mad rush to see which side could collect the most Matrices before they quickly learned that it didn't matter, the Matrices chose who the Matrices chose. The two sides were unified, Unicron was defeated, armistice was declared and treaties drawn up. And now Cybertron is being rebuilt under the guidance of thirteen Primes, their protectors, and those mechs the Matrices have indicated as their Designated Successors.

Lucidus arrives somewhat late, his gestalt behind him and a small box in his hands. All seven of them are obviously exhausted and then obviously immediately awake at the sight of so many sparks. "Here," Lucy says, handing Soundwave the box. "I took our normal containers for allspark energy and expanded the container part and stuffed it into subspace before miniaturizing the capture parts of the device into these rings." He looks all around the field. "We have the resources on my Cybertron to care for a few dozen if help is still needed." (@nova-tredecim)

Soundwave stands up straight at the sight of Lucidus and the others, as revived by their presence as they were by the sparks in front of them. He’d thought it would take them longer to build the promised devices--but then, what does he know of what it takes to contain an Allspark? It isn’t as though he’s ever gotten the chance to study his timeline’s relic under the supervision and guidance of a high-profile scientist.

He takes the box in one feeler and lifts the lid with the other, curious.

This device is also smaller than expected, and he finds himself most grateful for that. He lugs around enough weight above his waist without adding a giant secondary backpack to himself.

The good news? The rings don’t immediately leap off his fingers and develop sentience when he slides them on. Either they’re doing their job, or he’s out of Allspark juice.

The bad news? He has no idea which one it is, or when it will be safe to take these back off, if ever. That means that--eventually--he’s going to have to risk experimenting with touching stuff without wearing them.

Not right now, though. Right now, he’s got two more hands he can finally use to help dig, and that’s what he’s going to do.

Soundwave points to the area where most of the largest sparks have congregated. The gestalt members are on the large side; they should be able to handle those much easier than everyone else. There’s no excuse for inefficient planning just because he’s lowkey terrified that someone is going to point an accusing finger at him.

Or wondering how much the ones who might suspect are going to try squeezing out of him in exchange for their silence. Most of the bots who have shown up to assist don’t seem the type, but... one never knows. Favors from Soundwaves are precious things.

Lucidus nods and gestures for the gestalt to get to work. He himself is smaller than the others and chooses instead to work silently alongside Soundwave, aside from the comment "This is one of the duties of all Primes and Lords Protectorate on my Cybertron."

Lucidus leads Vigilus and Gravis, Lord Protector Ravage trailing behind and sniffing at every whiff and whisper as she measures how much of a threat the area might be to the three Primes in her care today. Eventually, they arrive at their destination, Lucidus calling a cheery "Hullo, grandfather!" as Nexus stirs delighted in the Matrix. (@nova-tredecim )

Straightening up from where he’d bent over the crystal growths in the garden, Rung stands to his full height-- which is to say, not much at all, but enough-- and waves back, jubilant for the company.

“Luci, dear, who have you brought along with you this time? Should I put the kettle on, or-- hello, Ravage, you’re looking well.”

Lucidus waves and gestures to each of the Primes in turn. “Tea sounds excellent! Please allow me to introduce Gravis, bearer of the Matrix of the Covenant, and Vigilus, bearer of the Matrix of Balance.”

Vigilus puts his hand over his spark, bowing softly as is his custom, even as overwhelming grief rises up in his Matrix. Liege Maximo, the victim of perfection, stares through the Prime’s eyes at his creator.

Gravis’ Matrix has no such reaction, he simply inclines his head. “Your crystals are looking lovely.”

Ravage, the only one other than Lucidus addressed directly by Rung, nods. “Thank you,” she rasps. “As are you.”

A third glittering layer of roaches abruptly manifests on top of the last one as this comms message makes its way into his inbox. Soundwave can hear every last one of them screaming in confusion and frustration.

Right now, he’s all of a millimeter from joining them.

The Lapidaries all share a look and, in unison, simply answer "No."

"Please understand," Suppetus says, spreading his hands in a gesture of peace, "we immensely enjoy the company of every Rumble (and Frenzy) we've met so far."

"But," Profectus says.

"Well," Constantus adds.

"Soundwave's scary," Amicus blurts.

Saepius nods. "Very scary. All Soundwaves. Especially Vigilus. Do we trust the ones we've met? Yes. Are we going to do anything that could potentially slag them off? Frag, no. And, well, our own Rumble is, well...."

"A kid," Potentus says, putting it plainly. "An adult, but Vigilus' newling for sure."

"Yes," Suppetus agrees, "that. And none of us want to find out what would happen if he found out we'd started any sort of relationship with any version of any of his deployers. And Soundwaves always find out. So we mean no disrespect but...."

All six exchange another look and, once again in unison, answer "No."

Lucidus certainly considers them friends at this point, if a bit warily due to the lack of sheer time, and he hopes his adventures across the multiverse would be something Soundwave wouldn't find boring (though who knows, maybe he's already seen it all).

Lucidus is a very affectionate person, but this is a list of what he's willing to do. If Soundwave - or any of his other partners - say no, he'll back off. One note is that he's never found hand-kissing very romantic, pre-war it was always a way for those in power to lord it over those under their command.

Do they stay together?

Lucidus' job as a Prime comes with some drawbacks, and one of those is at least one attempt on his life a month. Most are stopped before they even get near him, but there's always the chance that someone very skilled will come along or that someone will just straight up be very lucky. He does hope that no matter what happens or doesn't happen, he stays friends with Soundwave.

Another thing of note is that Lucidus doesn't do flings. Some of his relationships are easily classified - Alacris is his Conjunx Endura, and the Lapidaries are his gestalt-mates - and some are not, but he goes into all of them with the intent of long-term and expecting his partner to put in the same amount of work to maintain the relationship as he does. (He does communicate this expectation.)
