Some people get upset at the fraud Knight jokes but at the end of chapter 5 they confirm that this is kind of canon. Part of the Knight’s power is because they exploit the video game mechanics. They “ignore” Flowery’s fake stats, they use cutscenes to their advantage, etc. We’re basically fighting a cheater.

So this begs the question… how can they do that in the first place?

saw a tweet that said canon underswap was both the best and worst underswap. i thought about it and... i kind of agree. i think ever since ts underswap became a thing, a lot of underswaps started trying to be super ambitious like that, but canon underswap always seemed the most genuine

The Depths is actually in the ocean, not the shelter. The shelter is something else.

Most people generally assume at this point that the Depths is actually an evil Dark World in the shelter. Now, I used to think this was a given because the garbage noises play over there. But Noelle’s basement also play that sound in Chapter 4.

So I've been wondering... does that theory even still hold up???

Well, after looking into it, I found out that there’s actually MUCH stronger evidence that the Depths is located deep in the sea.

It's no secret that the background is a distorted photo of an ocean. While this is the strongest piece of evidence, it’s NOT the only connection.

For example, Dark Fountains (which are also called geysers), are said to be pulled directly from the Earth. In other words, we’re pulling these from the depths of the Earth... which also happens to be where deep water is. Deep water is one of the darkest places on the planet.

This is important because Onion-San and Gerson both mention that an old song is playing, deep in the ocean.

In the same chapter, we also get this prophecy:

Both this song and the Depths are beneath the Earth. The old song is playing there. This is why you can hear the garbage noises in Noelle’s basement. It seems random at first, but this happens because the further you go down, the closer you are to the Depths. This also explains the shelter, which leads underground.

And I don't see this discussed often, but Onion-San just straight up disappeared after he happened to be investigating this song. We know that Dess accidentally entered the Depths, and she got trapped there too. This makes some VERY interesting implications.

Everything seems to be leading up to the fact that deep water acts as a portal to the Depths. It makes the most sense. If Dark Fountains can make a dark world then why wouldn't a Dark Ocean create the Depths?

This gives STRONG credibility to the theory that Dess actually drowned in the ocean. OK, she didn't literally drown, but she did fall into deep water. There's actually some evidence for this.

In the Roaring Knight’s boss from Chapter 3, Kris’s ACT is called “HoldBreath”, and some of the flavor text says things like “Your vision narrows“, “You feel surrounded”, and “Your chest tightens“. These are obviously referring to their attacks, but they also happen to be phrased like loosely graphic descriptions of drowning in water.

This wouldn’t be the Knight’s only connection to water, either.

The glass imagery matches best with the description of the black shard, which we know is a part of the Knight’s black knife (and by association, their armor). This implies that it's made from water.

None of this automatically takes away any suspicion from the shelter. We know there's a dark world in there. If Dess didn’t get lost in it, then she probably created it. This is where the “ANGEL'S HEAVEN” comes into play.

We still don't know much about this place, but we can infer some things. For one, the name “Angel's Heaven” gives me the impression that the escapism themes will be the most apparent here. Heaven is a perfect world.

Think about it. What form of escapism is a shelter? An escape from the outside world. This is usually associated with avoiding real life problems and responsibilities. That sounds exactly like the mental image of Heaven.

“Lost where the forest would grow, the children followed the pointed tail. The poor children!”

The most popular theory of this line is that this forest is the same as the one that leads to the shelter, and that the tail of hell lured Kris and Dess in there. My issue with that is that the forest to the shelter is basically a straight line. I don't believe that Dess just happened to get completely isolated by a demon over there.

However, there's apparently another forest in this game that isn't really talked about.

This forest is said to be behind the graveyard. The forest to the shelter is actually past the church. This is a different one. One that apparently, Kris, Asriel, Noelle and Dess have explored before.

Now let's check the room behind the graveyard.

Yeah, checks out.

Listen, I know some of you think it’s just the festival, or an extended part of Hometown or something.

But here’s the thing. This place has NEVER been addressed in the game so far. It’s kind of just. There. Nobody in the game has talked about this side of town yet.

The festival, in comparison, is too built up. And it doesn’t make sense for this to be another part of Hometown, so neither of those options hold much merit. The way it looks to me, this place is either a crime scene and/or off limits.

Because of this, I’m only inclined to believe this is related to Dess. For one, this matches the exact location of the forest Noelle mentioned. It just makes sense that the mysteriously police taped area would lead to the forest children used to get lost in.

And similarly to this area, Dess’s fate is also not directly revealed yet, so there’s actually a good chance these are linked. Whatever happened to her seems to be a sensitive subject to the Hometown residents, so I can see why they would refuse to talk about the place where it happened. It’s a relatively small town, so a place like this would naturally become infamous and even avoided.

It also makes more sense that the police would barricade said place where Dess was last seen, since we know that Asgore has a lead on Dark Worlds because of the black shard.

Interestingly though, Noelle also says that they “never found anything interesting there”. So it’s possible I’m just looking too deep into it.

BUT, this could also imply that she’s more in the dark about Dess than we thought. This could be why she’s still hoping for her to come back. After all, the town doesn't seem to know the full story of what happened to her.

We all know that “Noelle is the girl” theory right? So what if there was a Deltaswap AU that followed that logic?

The shelter symbols represent where the keys are located. Not a person.

One of the symbols is a pine tree. In chapter 4 we discover that one of the codes is taped to Dess’ guitar before Kris and Carol fuck it all up.

So this symbol is Carol’s house

The other is a church symbol. It’s pretty obvious where this code would be located. Funnily enough, we’ve already seen a code here. It’s probably the same one for the shelter.

Last one is a police badge. Clearly this would mean the last code is located in the police station lol. Kris and Susie might have to take a visit in chapter 5 or 6.

I have a strong suspicion Asgore will be the one to tell them where it is, considering he’s implied to be an important character in the next chapter.

(He’s most likely the next one to get trapped in the shelter with Undyne. It’s probably the last thing he tells Kris before he gets taken)
