Now here’s my ramble about this drawing…
I was soo expecting Cake to win the cat girl poll BUT honestly I’m soo happy Mae won since I’ve never drawn any Nitw fanart despite many hours of playing it.
it’s been a WHILE but it was fun getting myself back into the Night In the Woods headspace for this illustration. I tried to think not just of the plot and characters of the game but also the feeling of the environment and gameplay. I thought of the dramatic points in the story but kept returning to my main memories of the game, aka jumping around on wires, rooftops, and endlessly walking into and out of town, (stealing pretzels) all with a slow steady pace of gameplay marked by occasional calm times.
Maybe that’s why the churchyard stood out to me? Because it was a regular stop on my town route, but unlike the rest of town this place was quiet, absent of crowds, and although peppered with trash it was wilder.
So yep, that’s how I settled on this scene for my final pic. I liked the idea of doing something among the rooftops/wire-tops but drawing lots of plants also just felt more my thing.
I’m also getting used to Procreate soo this is one of my first all-digital illustrations! I’m still v much a techy beginner but I really like how this turned out, in all its autumnal hazy scruffiness.
