Oh for goodness, not again- apologi-
[ Crash .sfx ]
“Barnabas!” [Izzie yelped in a panic, wincing as the Victorian man crashed into several shelves. Luckily ‘important’ didn’t mean ‘dangerous’ this time… other than flying old guys from the 1800s apparently]
“…you ok?”
[ There's a bit of quiet before a very dazed Barnabas poked out from the wood ]
Quite alright. Well, as alright as I possibly- these things happen often. You are aware of how it is.
”yeah… fair enough.” [she chuckled, helping the poor dude up. A chair next to her had like five or six statements that she picked up soon after, relived Barnabas hadn’t crashed into that.]
”well, uh… how you doing? Long time no see, buddy-“
Well enough, I suppose. We did speak a while ago, did we... hmm. Must be my memory! You will have to forgive me for not paying a visit.
“you’re alright dude, it happens.” [Izzie hummed.] “so… anything cool happened between now and the hospital?”
Not anything of note I can think of, no. I would hope it to be the same on your end? You do have a habit if ending up in rather odd situations, if I have heard correctly.
“eh, more like situations get tossed at me like volleyballs.” [Izzie chuckled.] “but it’s been surprisingly quiet for a while. Dunno what’s up with that..”
A volley...? I would be thankful for the peace, and possibly prepare. Such things rarely come without some form of consequence.
”they didn’t have volleyball in the 1800s?”
[izzie’s expertise was in old yaoi, not old sports it seemed.]
[ Barnabas stares blankly ]
Something I will have to look up, I am afraid.
”it’s, uh… it’s a sport. really big tennis with more people, basically.” [she explained. It’s fairly clear that neither her nor the mod know shit about sports.]
[ It's after a good while of utterly uncomprehending blinking that Barnabas simply smiles awkwardly ]
Goodness. So many new concepts, even now I find myself lost... Ahem. No matter.
“…yeah, uh… I’m not… really into sports as much, I’m probably not explaining this very well…” [she muttered sheepishly.] “i don’t… really follow it too much.”
[ Barnabas simply waves a hand to dismiss Izzie's worries, his posture a bit more relaxed ] Really, I do not mind! If I am being completely honest, I myself hold no strong feelings towards the matter. What were you saying, before this? I believe I interrupted you, apologies.
”oh! Uh, yeah, it’s been weirdly quiet on the shenanigans lately, I don’t really know what that’s about…” [Izzie hummed.] “haven’t been thrown at someone for at least a week or two now.”
Ah, yes, that. Again, that does not seem to be a very good omen, but I would rather not be the bearer of bad news, so for now let us assume this is some form of temporary respite.
“Heh, yeah… oh, uh, I heard you and the foggy boat guy were a thing now? Uh… fuck, what was his name, George Lucas? Congrats on that, he seems pretty cool.”
Peter! Yes, ah... I was not aware you- you knew, I- we are on. Good terms. Very good terms.
[ Ah, he's gotten awkward again if the speech is any indicator ]
[she chuckled a little.] “yeah, I uh… may have went to him when you went missing; he’s the only other fog-powered guy I knew at the time…”
[well, that explains how izzie even knows who Peter Lucas is…]
“he seems to really like you. I’m happy for you guys.”
Yes, yes marvellous, ahahaha-
[ Oh, and he's clasping his hands together and looking away, definitely nervous. ]
Er, what did he say? When you went to ask about my... other than, well-
[ Ooooh. It's probably the 17th century queer thing. ]
"...barnabas, you know homosexuality is legal now, right?"
Yes! Must you advertise it so loudly?
...could we discuss some other topic? Please?

[ A letter shows up on a table, a small spider scuttling away as if it had been delivered be the creature. ]
[ Inside the letter reads: ]
To Barnabas Bennett,
This must come as a surprise, and it is for me too. I haven't wrote any living soul a letter in years so please forgive me if this isn't long, or written correctly.
I'm writing to you today because I would be very interested in meeting you. It's rare to find a family member nowaday, as I'm sure you've found since your return should you have been looking.
I heard about you from a woman who has asked to remain anonymous, she didn't qctually give me her name. All she said on her identity was "chelicare" or "chalicarae" or something like that.
Anyways, I hear you are really the very same Barnabas from my own lineage, back to 1800s. Of course it would usually be unbelievable but when you've been stuck not aging, not dying, since 1942, it becomes a little less fantastical.
I cannot help but wonder what you are like, and if you'd be interested, or simply willing to humor a lone relative, but I'd like to meet you.
If you would; meet me in Hyde Park this Thursday. I figure somewhere open for your own comfort would be best.
I look forward to seeing you,
L/Cpl Archie J. Bennett
[ Oh. That's. ]
[ Does he want to trust that? ]
[ ...well. It wouldn't kill him to investigate. And it was Annabelle that pushed it. Despite the infamous hurt bad no good time park being in the equation... ]
[ It's Thursday! He's in the park. Waiting. ]
[ A heavily scarred man with too long hair pulled back in an attempt to look neat, approaches Barnabas. He's wearing the trousers from an old military uniform, and a black tank top. ]
Excuse me, would you be Barnabas?
Yes, that would be me! That must make you Archie, I assume?
[ He's also trying his best to appear friendly and is suddenly very very painfully aware of how out of place his clothes make him look ]
That's right. It's really great to meet you.
[ Archie holds out a hand, trying to offer a smile, feeling very self conscious about his scars, knowing the nervous friendliness to be something people did out of fear for him. ]
[ Barnabas takes the hand well enough, offering a smile of his own. He's more curious than anything, but decides to put more questions for after the usual pleasantries ]
As it is to meet you. I must say, I found myself quite surprised to find out someone related to me was alive at this day and age!
[ Given Peter, he probably should have looked into it more... oh well. ]
[ Archie laughs a little ]
Yes I understand the feeling, it was a shock to me too. I thought the young lady who told me about you was kidding me about if I'm being honest
[ He pulls his hand away, standing with them held behind his back. ]
I tried to plan what I was gonna say to you but my heads gone static.. its a lot to take in, ain't it?
I... suppose, yes, indeed. You met Annabelle, I presume. Lovely woman, utterly baffling but pleasant enough company. Delights in making others feel as if they are 'out of thier depth', so to say, I imagine her intention was to confuse you at the very least a small amount. But never the matter! We must talk, I am so very curious about you. Would you walk with me?

Waiting. ]
