chronic pain diagnoses are all like yeah we don't know what this is or why it happens. we also don't know how to treat it. good luck out there soldier
you got symptoms syndrome. yeah it’s permanent. what is it? like… what, is it? well it’s a thing where this set of symptoms usually comes in a variety twelve-pack, what do you want. symptoms syndrome. don’t overuse the ibuprofen
you should probably also get checked out for Overlapping Symptoms Syndrome, they often come as a two-for-one kinda deal. what can we do if you've got that too? well we can tell your to exercise. it'll probably make some of the symptoms better but others worse. yeah, worse. it's all we've got so take it or leave it.

Remember kids, getting arrested to fill up jails and overwhelm the system was an effective tactic 60 years ago.
Now, though, Los Angeles has a prison skyscraper downtown, and the carceral state would love nothing more than to take you off the street and force you into years of prison labor.
Cover your face, be smart about what you post, and don't get arrested if you can help it.
thinking about how even gay rights just. aren’t taken seriously by your average well meaning liberal. i’m thinking about how coworkers a few jobs ago just chuckled when i said i didn’t want chicfila bc of their donations to anti gay efforts. more recently, a trans girl who works at my gym told me that her bosses wouldn’t let her hang a pride flag in the gym. This is despite it being a place that is largely queer and a strongly ‘liberal’ soace, because “conservatives go here too.” At what point do certain ideas become unacceptable? at what point do we stop having conversations about queer rights because yes we all know gay people deserve rights? “conservatives come here too!” okay and you’re okay with that? you want that? there’s people who will be made uncomfortable by something as simple as a pride flag and you’re okay with that? you’re accommodating it? have some fucking conviction! do the minimum!
every time I mention how many days sober I am I appreciate people congratulating me and telling me to keep up the good work. it is nice. but I also wish that milestones in addiction recovery weren’t still so pinned to length of sobriety/abstinence
yeah yeah I’m 50 days sober who cares. how about the fact that, when I do drink, it tends to be nipped in the bud after two days nowadays instead of weeks or months? how about the fact that drinking has been condensed to a six pack because I’m at the end of my tether, instead of browning out every night? how about my friend who has decided to stop drinking alone, and is actually sticking to that? recovery doesn’t always look like sobriety and I wish it was more normal to talk about that. yknow. when addiction is normal to talk about at all
This this this this this this this
#i feel what you're saying but like if you quit drinking and you were a secere alcoholic and you start again you can literally die#so maybe lets be a little careful with how we talk about it#like its not a moral/personal failing and its very normal to partake in intoxicants to some degree for almost everyone#but you can absolutely run into some very serious health situations very quickly#which is a personal choice but like lets be conscience of our framing maybe?
I feel like tags of this nature kind of miss the broader social/cultural context(s) that this post was made in
I am speaking here to the taken for granted AA/NA framing of addiction, where addiction is a disease that can only be cured through complete abstinence. most people, including addicts, only ever see one singular narrative of recovery ("you sober up completely, and then you're either sober forever or you relapse. a relapse is always a dangerous return to square one"). this narrative is an incredibly limited one, and in fact increases the chance of relapses becoming dangerous, because it encourages all or nothing thinking with respect to substance use ("I've failed sobriety now, so I might as well keep going", "it's shameful that I've had a drink after years of sobriety, I should do anything I can do to cover it up", etc). not to mention the dangers of forced sobriety with respect to withdrawal (which can be deadly)
what I'm talking about here is a harm reduction approach to recovery, heavily informed by my involvement with the SMART program. this takes the emphasis away from 'number of days sober' and towards hitting self-defined goals and milestones within recovery. rather than seeing the substance itself as the problem, it focuses on finding ways to no longer solely rely on substance use to cope with whatever underlying problems might exist for an addict (e.g. trauma). someone might therefore choose to stop drinking whenever they have a flashback (for example), or to only drink when they're around friends
this is all to say. everything in broader cultural narratives scares addicts into sobriety when that is not inherently the healthiest choice for them to be making. that kind of framing is dangerous, and impedes the ability for addicts to make proper cost-benefit analyses about our substance use. it is important to the safety and well-being of addicts (and everyone else) that we expand the range of narratives around what recovery looks like

The class war is staggeringly rigged against the working class. The majority of households are living under extreme economic trauma.
End the trauma. Abolish Republicans.

Disney, do you have something you need to talk about? Any issues? Anything at all?
The reason I’m not an anarchist is that in the centuries before the Americans with disabilities act people could have all installed safe wheelchair ramps in all of their buildings and they didn’t.
If you’re trying to make a system that relies on people being nice I’m not gonna go with it.
There's just such a failure in logic here. You're not an anarchist because you don't quite know what it is, at least.
Please listen to cool people who did cool stuff. Libertarians are the assholes you're talking about, the ones who think everyone for themselves can or will ever work, instead anarchists just believe in no hierarchies. Power with instead of power over. We actually very much believe in caring for each other, and places where anarchism actually happens shit gets done. After hurricane Helene it was anarchists not the democratic government who got planes up in the mountains WITHIN 24 HOURS to take things to people and get messed up people out. We're the ones who go in and get things going. Despite whatever happens we are the ones who don't give up, relentless lil fuckers. And we're doing anarchism more places and ways than you think.
Every time I see this I just have to encourage people to actually find out what anarchism is before writing it off or worse, telling lies about it. Please. Pretty fuckin please.
