I feel like explaining myself so I will
This comic blog and comic in general was completely based around the idea of "if sonic and shadow lived in a world where they could just fold laundry together". But the thing is, I was going about it wrong, and the further I wrote, the more I drew for this comic the further I felt from the characters that sparked this interest in he first place.
My comic, isn't Sonic and Shadow. That is not Sonic, that is not Shadow. Those are highly personalized, simplified, and infantilized versions of the characters that I no longer feel an actual connection to.
I used to be someone who would fight tooth and nail about this ship and how it was very personal to me, but looking back on it, I was looking at Sonic and Shadow through fanon-tented glasses and since my interest in things like Transformers and Batman I've since taken off to look at the characters themselves.
I used to sideline the actual content of the characters because it was labeled as "not written well" rather then looking at how it was trying to be written. A Sonic plotline is not a normal plotline. You don't write Sonic like you would write a Batman story.
Sonic isn't about domestic life or simple folding your laundry and paying your taxes, and it isn't about the hardships Sonic goes through. It's about seeing the world through the liens of a character like Sonic, someone who has themselves figured out and has everything around them figured out even if the surroundings hasn't figured itself out. It's about the inspiration and passion Sonic puts into your head to just do things. It's about freedom in a way domestic life just doesn't have.
And in the case of Sonadow, I don't ship it anymore because of my deconstruction of the characters, because of my deconstruction of their actual relationship, the non romantic one.
Every time Sonic and Shadow interact while there's an air of respect, there's distance. A distance that they will not over come and that will not fade away. Yes, Sonic was there for so many things in Shadow's life, the big things in his life but Sonic wasn't there for him enough.
He wasn't a piece of the situation like everything else was. He sidelined himself too much. Shadow respects him but he does not rely on him.
He acknowledges Sonic and the things he's done for him but he does not trust him with anything.
And in the case of Sonic, he's not trying to be apart of Shadow's life. Or anyone's, for that matter. Even down to Tails, Sonic might be the reason all these people experienced these things and is the reason the way they are, but that's just it. Sonic is an experience that sticks with you but just like experience he comes and goes.
And because of this distance the two have I just can't see the romance within it like I used to.
