I saw Elemental, and I loved it!
It's a sweet story about interracial dating and honoring the sacrifices your parents made.
Everything about it was so clever from the element puns to showing off what each element can do, like how fire can change colors with the right minerals and how water can use light refraction to make a rainbow.
Ember and Wade are a couple you can root for, and you can see them bring out the best in each other. A highlight was the montage of them going on dates and seeing how Ember, who was previously antisocial, opened up and began to enjoy the main part of the city after staying in the fire district all her life.
We get plenty of the parents' backstory. Usually we are just told about the sacrifices that parents make for their children, but this time we get to see how they struggled to build a new life away from their homeland. It really makes the ending much more satisfying.
My one criticism is we didn't see much of Clod, the Earth kid from the promo material. For a character used to represent the Earth element in the promos, we see very little of him compared to Ember, Wade, and Gale the Air element. In general, we didn't see much of the Earth elements and what they can bring to the table. We don't know what Clod's deal is and why he's the only Earth kid in Firetown.
Overall, a wonderful movie and I would go see it again!
Please go see Elemental in theaters! Pixar hasn't had a box office hit since the pandemic started, and part of the reason for that is people have gotten complacent waiting for Pixar movies to release on Disney+ when they can watch for free at home. I'm worried that due to these factors, Pixar might shut down in the next few years if they can't get their box office momentum back.
