like i have an old post on my main blog that is me talking out of my ass about amnesia because i found the idea cool, but like nature vs nuture right? percy has poor self esteem because he was relentlessly bullied for yearssssss and doesn't think of himself as anything interesting or noteworthy or lovable, right? that's why when calypso tells him straight up to his face that she likes him, he's still confused and is like "but i'm just...me" and she's like "you sell yourself short" or whatever she said but whatever anyway he thinks this way because it's been engrained into his mind through all the different schools he went to and all the different kids he met, they all came to the conclusion that he wasn't anything special and they all relentlessly bullied him. even his teachers.

but then in son of neptune, hera takes those memories from him. percy has no idea then that people discarded him without a second thought. the only thing in his brain is that he has a pretty girlfriend somewhere out there named annabeth. but nothing else.

the concept was that if he didn't have those memories, would he not behave differently? if he didn't know that people discarded him, his self esteem probably leveled out around that point. son!percy not being insecure nor being arrogant, but being objective. so he'd look at himself in the mirror and see a face he's never seen before and is very objective as he studies it, as he studies himself. and then he sees the way people react to him now and the way they smile and avert his gaze when he grins. and he's able to objectively note that he is attractive and people are attracted to him.

which is why i believe he was able to catch reyna's propostition so easily in son. like if botl!percy heard reyna making that offer to him, i don't think he would've realized what she was really offering. but son!percy does and i think that's because he wasn't blinded by insecurities and was able to put two and two together of "i'm attractive so there's a possibility she's making a romantic offer to me right now" and come to the correct conclusion regarding that encounter

but then i do think post getting his memories back via gorgons blood, he was reminded of all those kids and that film of insecurity settled back over his eyes and that's why we get the scene of percabeth in rome on their date when percy wants to ask her, "and you love me anyway?" because he's back to viewing himself as unlovable. but anyway i think son!percy is the closest we got to percy with an ego, even if it would've just been him being objective with himself.

Annabeth is right where she wants to be. Oh, sure, she got kidnapped and all that, but she doesn't care.

i've always believed in poseidon blessing annabeth around tlo anyway because he's liked her and wanted her architect's eye down in atlantis to help him rebuild (he really just wants to bond with his not-yet-daughter-in-law) so she's able to breathe and see and isn't crushed by the pressure or frozen by the cold and is essentially heralded as princess of atlantis because. yes.

but percy definitely still "kidnaps" her and drags her down there. its some mermaid instinct in him i guess. i would say siren but when i say siren, i'm refering to modern sirens, not greek sirens. so to avoid confusing, i'm saying mermaid. but yknow.

PLUS. sally is trusting them not to desecrate her apartment so they don't have sex there. they have car sex but it feels a little disrespectful to paul since it's his prius so they don't do it often (its also lowkey uncomfortable but. when you have no other option, it is what it is). they could do it at camp but also people will definitely hear and dionysus definitely gives them looks over breakfast while people whisper and giggle all around them. so they visit atlantis and poseidon gives them their own room together and they're like. really? you're okay with us sleeping in the same room? and poseidon just shrugs and lets them desecrate his palace. the only thing is percy is surrounded in his nature and salt water, so he definitely doesn't stop for hoursssss and annabeth is always exhausted after visiting atlantis.

REALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grover knew immediately when percy lost his viginity and kept getting flashes of the experience over the mental link. percy laying back and enjoying his afterglow and catching his breath with a grin on his lips, just hears from the corners of his mind "we need to work on how to put barriers up on this thing" and percy just shoots up in bed horrified LMAOOOO

i do think as a nature spirit, grover wouldn't particularly care about percabeth having sex, but he would care that its distracting him from his work. like sex is just part of life and reproduction and a lot of things in nature have sex so its like. part of his nature as well. so if they started having sex with him in the room, he'd just be like. fine, have your fun. i'm raiding your fridge tho. and they're getting it on while he's muching on soda cans beside them and surfing the channels they get on their tv. he is not third wheeling or being neglected or ignored. he is a part of this even if he's not doing anything. he's there for moral support. emotional support.

i definitely think that at some point someone slipped up and made a joke in front of the wrong crowd so like thalia called them cousins in front of a bunch of mortals and they got super flustered and were stumbling over their words to make it better and ended up going with "distant cousins so it's not that bad" but now theres a group of mortals who definitely think they are blood cousins that are dating. percy panicked and accidentally went "nono we're like uncle and niece aren't we?" and annabeth was like "no we're not!" so the group thinks their family tree is all kinds of fucked up

thalia laughed her ass off until she was blue in the face

rachel's teasing was definitely just her being confused in the beginning. like she didn't really get the whole thing at first so she'd be like. "aren't you two related?" after watching them make googoo eyes at each other and percy would explain it away but she still wouldn't get it since he was flustered and stumbling over his words. but eventually she did get it and her questions and comments did turn more teasing and playful

she made a teasing remark in front of annabeth and annabeth kept her poker face as she played into it and acted confused when percy insisted they weren't really related. she was like "what are you talking about? of course we are." and percy was like "stop it. no we're not. you aren't funny either." and she looked to rachel and played confused and was like "what did he tell you?" and dragged it out for days insisting they were really related and rachel was torn between who to believe until percy dragged in an outside party to explain it to rachel
