OK so you guys know that post about marriage proposal blades n shit? That got me thinking about divorce in a culture like that and you know how in Viking culture they tied a knot around your hands to make it official? Imagine, first, a culture where the ribbon/fabric/rope/whatever used to make that knot was cut from the rest with the knife proposed with, then that knot was displayed somewhere prominent in the home (think over the hearth, over the door, etc.) right next to the knife, and when you wish to break the bond with your partner, you have to actually cut the bond you made with the knife you were given to make it.
