i really do dislike how people utilize the term "unmonitored/unsupervised internet access" because on a regular basis they take issue with the internet part and not the neglect. i dont believe internet access is traumatizing, i think being neglected is.

Like why is the main character as well as the main romantic pairing in the story, 3 straight characters, and don't say it came out in the 90s when both Angels in America and Falsettos came out already

Like if you focused it on Collins and Angel, you get an interesting tragedy about two poor queer people in the 80s, but because Mark and Roger are the main characters, it is instead a story about trust fund poverty tourism

This is also partially happening because it was written by a cishet creative in the Bohemian Scene of New York, rather than a Queer person forced into it. Jonathan Larson, was not queer, and that is the fundamental issue with him telling this story, he is writing about an experience he never had, and is filling in the gaps with his own different experiences, he never had to worry about dying of AIDS, his struggle was losing people to it. And that manifests in a loss of culture to him, these people he lost were creatives, so he viewed AIDS as an attack on the arts just as much as queerness. Which is an interesting look at it, if he had been able to recognize the dilemma faced by him in the creation of the piece, which he failed to do

like I am happy that it features black and POC queer characters, but I'm not critiquing it based off it's representations of race, because that is not a field I am equiped to respond to, I am critiquing it on how it deals with queer themes, because I am able to address that
