OOC / Plotting
I'm back and feeling fresh as a daisy. I come bearing offerings for the rp community. At the moment I have only two roleplays going; both of which are with versions of Bones. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Bones, but it's made me think maybe I should plot with some other characters. If you're looking for a Kirk with which to plot some things out, I'm your man. I'll accept canons or OCs-- I'm not a snob.

Bones would by lying if he said he didnât watch Jim as he read it, but looked away when he sat down next to him. Despite his eyes burning at the thought of the message on his PADD, which he put gently down on his desk again before he threw it against the wall, he couldnât help but snort at the Captainâs words. That was his life though, wasnât it? Always getting the shit end of the stick.
âThereâs no way I can fight it. You read her bullshit, thinks that I might bring home dangerous diseases or people with me when I visit Jo. Didnât even care to listen to the fact that I would never do that to my girl. Iâm a doctor, damn it.â McCoy put his thumb on his temple and hid his eyes with his fingers.
âAnd what could you have done Jim? Tell her that it isnât fair? Well, she obviously didnât give two fucks about that when I told her it wasnât fair. Why would I have told you?â The doctor had struggled to keep himself sober the last few years, since there had been promises of more time with Jo if he did, and now that that was obviously out the window he never wanted to open six bottles of whiskey then he did right now.
But he wouldnât do it. Couldnât let himself go back to that, even though every fiber in his being was pushing him towards it again.
Kirk could feel the energy draining out of him, even as they spoke. There was so much to consider that he didnât quite know what to say or do. There wasnât much. Though he wanted to put his head in his hands and think, he didnât. A captain could only show so much weakness, a friend even less. Bones needed him, whether or not he knew it. And Jim had no intention to let the man down. If he got mad, it was better than whatever this was. Distractions were okay. Jim was good at distractions.
âI wouldnât have told her anything. Thatâs not my place.â Kirk knew most people would have been astounded by those words; Kirk was usually the last person to know his place. But he was tactful when necessary. He had no jurisdiction where the doctorâs relationships were concerned except for their own (and he had to admit, it had its incredible faults). âBut I could have been there for you, Bones. Itâs not fair for you to deal with that alone. Thatâs what Iâm saying.â
Jim leaned forward in the chair, hands clasped between his knees as he studied McCoy. His expression wasnât close to sympathy. Theyâd never worked on that level, and Jim wasnât about to start now. He looked like a man who was desperately trying to get his point across, concerned less about the message than his ability to get it to its destination. âI would ask that anyone on this ship come to me when they need to. But ultimately thatâs their decision-- Iâm not friends with any of them.â
[9:15:09 PM] Bones: i want you with me
[9:15:16 PM] Kirk: i can't bb
If anyone was wondering. I'm still without proper internet. I'm stealing this from I-don't-know-where. But it's slow and probably going to stop working soon. This is just an announcement so people know I'll be back once I find my damn router. Moving sucks.
tea is served; jim
âDonât insult my grandmaw, maybe sheâll be the reason why you donât loose your head from sleep deprivation.â He smirked a bit and sat on a chair near Jimâs bed. He remembered bringing it here from his own quarters that time (that second time since the beginning of this five years mission) when he had to watch Jim recovering from some selfless act he made again. He hated that chair, but it was useful. With a pang in his chest, Leonard knew this wouldnât be the last time he would sit there watching over Jim.Â
âAnd yes, they are dead Jim.â He smiled a bit at the pun, shaking his head. âSpeaking of my Sickbay, what exactly is your connection with Chapel?â
âIf you say so. But this still tastes like hell. I just hope this doesnât knock me out for fourteen hours like those red pills you gave me when we were at the academy.â Actually, now he thought about it, heâd stolen those. That had been one bitch of a hangover. He wasnât keen on finishing the tea very quickly with that renewed memory now surfaced. He felt ill thinking about it. Kirk sipped again and this time kept a relatively straight expression. He leaned back again, slumped against the headboard and looking very much the child he often pretended to be. Not once did his eyes leave the doctor, even as he drank the foul concoction. Whatever this was, it was masquerading as herbal.
âChapel? Where the hell did that come from?â Jim stretched, trying his best to seem nonchalant. Failing, obviously, but nobody could hold that against him. Other than Bones. Bones held a lot of things against him; even the things he didnât mention. But that was a trail Kirk wasnât eager to pursue at this hour. âYou mean theâthe blond nurse? That one? No connection what-so-ever... anymore.â

OOC / Packing Day
I would have liked to finish off my replies today that I neglected last night (I fluctuate between Star Trek and Hannibal and it's no good for my follow-through). Unfortunately, I have to finish packing up the major things left in the house because tomorrow is the move-out date.
If I manage to get to replies at all today, it'll be late. Like 2300 MST minimum. Sorry about this, everyone.

As surprising as the doctor not snarking at Jim before, he actually listened to him without arguing. He stopped cleaning his desk, balling up the rag in his hand. Bones opened his mouth to say something, to try and explain it, but he knew he couldnât. Because it would just shatter him even more and he didnât want Jim to see that. Didnât want anyone too.
Itâs why he kept doing the god damned cleaning, to make everyone thing he was alright. That he was just his bastard self. He could play that game with everyone, even his ex-wife. Especially his ex-wife, even after last week. Never Jim though.
McCoy glanced at his PADD, before going to his messages and handing it to Kirk before he slumped in his chair. It was the first one still, because well he never got many messages anymore. He knew that Jim would understand, at least some of it. Jim knew about Joanna, his daughter, and what happened when he had gotten divorced. He was hardly able to see her after it, with the schedules that had been put in place.
Now, his ex-wife had ensured it that he would almost never see her at all.
Jim took the PADD, quiet dread roiling in his chest. He knew what it was about when he read the sender in the heading. âShit.â That had been involuntary, but at the same timeâpertinent. As he read on, eyes narrow, he thought the word was too kind. He could think of a number of alternatives. Kirk chose not to say any of them as he handed the message back over and joined McCoy, seating himself in the assistantâs chair. Hunching himself over, hands clasped together, Kirk was silent for a long time. He didnât trust himself not to sound like an asshole. The doctor didnât take well to sympathetic looks or classic words of comfort, and it was a fine line to walk as a friend.
âI donât know what to say, Bones, except you definitely got the shit end of the stick.â
That was terrible. Not helpful at all.
âThereâs no fighting this?â Even when he said it, it sounded lame. He felt like a fish gasping on a dock. He couldnât imagine how Bones had been coping for so long under his radar. Of course there was no way to fight it. The ex-wife had almost everything on her side, and McCoyâs service on board one of the most dangerous ships in recent history had to be the final nail in the coffin. âYou should have told me about this when you got it, Bones.â

Bones, much to Jimâs surprise, said nothing. That was the thing between them, no matter what Jim said, he would always have something witty to say back. Even if it wasnât even witty, it was something that was on his mind, or just something so that he could have the last word.
This time, nothing.
The doctor pointedly ignored Jim, because he knew that he was right. God he hated it, but he was. And it wasnât just because of him cleaning. Lately it had been something to get his mind off what was happening millions of lightyears away on earth.
Heâd been expecting pretty much anything but silence, even down to taking a moderately defensive position near the door, hunched in like he was just waiting for Bones to bear down on him with the usual empty threats. When they didnât come, Kirk straightened himself out and approached McCoy. âBones. Stop for a second.â He should have addressed this sooner. Naturally, this realization came too late and with a side of boiling guilt. âWhatâs going on? Donât make me order you to tell me. I will do it, ethically questionable or not.â
Suddenly Kirk didnât know if he favored the bridge or the med bay in terms of âmost terrifying situationâ. On one hand, Nyota with eyes like knives. On the other, his normally unshakable CMO was quiet for the first time in who even knew how long. He planted himself behind the doctor, not quite sure he wanted to even continue this conversation.

âItâs not a frenzy Jim.â Bones swept past him, rolling his eyes. âThis is a place thatâs supposed to be clean, and after every day I clean it. Unless you want to get sick with what that ensign had from the recent planet we were stopped over. Poor bastard canât stop throwing up a purple substance. Managed to stop it, but heâs in bed rest for a week. If you want that to be you, be my guest.â
Kirk nodded, doing his utmost worst to hide his smile. He looked down at the spotless ground until heâd managed to reconfigure his expression into something that wouldnât make the doctor want to maliciously infect him with something embarrassing. âNo, no. Youâre right, Bones. But you could be a little less vicious.â The captain knew he was treading some rather unforgiving water (and yet this was still less terrifying than the bridge), but he knew he could pull rank if it became necessary. He didnât want it to.
âIn the past week Iâve seen a total of three nondescripts walk out of here looking like they were about to cry.â He'd been avoiding the conversation for about that long, but circumstances with Uhura had eventually directed him here. 'Not everyone has balls of steel, Bones. And not everyone knows you're secretly fluffy on the inside.'

âYeah.â Gwen said, laughing again slightly. âYeah⌠making them happy is a little hard, but I manage to make it happen sometimes.â It was a little harder than she had made it seem. They were very hard to please, and even though they didnât want their daughter to join Starfleet, she joined anyway. It was to make her happy. Not them. âTell them about the wonderful crew I have the pleasure of working with.â
Kirk nodded. He knew enough about dysfunctional family situations to understand. He didnât offer her any words of sympathy, and she didnât ask. Her natural inclination to change the subject mirrored his own. He had to respect it. âHah, well. Letâs see if you feel that way when weâre a year into this mission.â Though as he said it, he had a difficult time believing sheâd experience many crew-related hardships. Sheâd proven herself smart enough to stop him in his tracks. âIâm mostly kidding. But youâll learn quickly. And as Captain, itâs my duty to offer whatever help you may need in future.â He didn't mention that the offer would have stood even if he wasn't.
