-the ganglari IS an actual weapon, and the version of it we see in game is actually a fake. a replica.

-originally, it served as another divine weapon, created alongside the Siegfried, Brynhildr, Raijinto, Fujin Yumi, and Yato, by the Rainbow Sage.

-it was thought to have been lost - but in actuallity, its most recent user was the King of Valla - Azura’s father. upon his death, Arete brought it along with her when she and Azura sought refuge in Nohr.

-the ganglari we see in the beginning of fates is a replica, and that’s why it reacted that way with Sumeragi’s corpse/Anankos wielding it upon Mikoto’s death. why it exploded - it wasn’t the real thing, and anankos knew it when he even saw it from the crowd.

-the real ganglari was stolen by Azura and taken back to Valla - and upon Marx’s arrival to Valla, Azura presented it to him. he was hesitant to take it, since after all, he had JUST watched it kill his own mother in his arms. why would he want it?

-turns out, it’s closer to the shadow yato, but without the critical evasian and dragon effectiveness, and it instead boosts the user’s chances of getting a critical.
