So I got an answer from one of the admins of “Sorozatjunkie” (which is a blog dedicated to mostly american tv series. It is really trustworthy, I’ve been reading it for years, also, it started in 2006 so I think the admins know what they are talking about.) about Shadowhunters’ ratings question. I will try to translate everything the best I can.

Do someone know how much the stream datas help to prevent (a show from getting) cancelled? I am asking because of Shadowhunters, obviously the live ratings are really down but a lot of people say, relax, there is Netflix, Hulu etc.

They absolutely don’t, at least until we don’t know the data. I don’t think it matters anyway, (what matters) is they have this contract, but we don’t know in the case of Shadowhunters what the global deal means, how much compensation fee they want, meaning, where they draw the line because obviously the live ratings can’t be zero, above that but not as high as it had been. And of course it depends on the tv channel, one show of theirs can survive this the other can survive that rating. /I really can’t translate the last sentence nicely but what he means is that, one show can get renewed with a 300k but on the same channel the other can get cancelled with even 400k ratings/

Thank you so much for the answer. So if the streaming data is good, the live ratings stagnate between 300k and 400k then it is possible to get a renew BUT because we don’t know the data, saying that “It’s okay, there will be even a 6th season” is over confident. Do I get it right?

Yes, it is a real exaggeration. I think the best way (to solve this question) is to compare last year’s renewed shows’ numbers to Shadowhunters’.
