Hello beautiful people.

My name is Nobody and I am a writer who wishes to be writing at the speed as this anime character in the GIF so I can finish my wips and hopefully publish them one day.

I am in my late twenties and besides writing I also read, play video games, watch anime and lay on my bed with my kitties who I would die for. I am more of a jack of all trades master of none kind of person, just not the all trades bit

I write predominantly contemporary and fantasy novels, though am dabbling in a fantasy romance and an action WIP, and may also attempt the sci-fi work again.

It is so annoying when authors try to make their characters seem tough by making them sleep deprived and then just having them "power through it" with no side effects besides feeling REALLY tired. Your characters had five hours of sleep over three days, they're not just "tired". They're forgetting shit. They're passing out at random moments. They're probably hallucinating. And they are certainly not going to win a fight when their reaction time is somewhere between "next Tuesday" and "never".

Your hero has a headache and is trying and failing not to snap at everyone who makes the slightest noise anywhere near them.

If you then add injury and hunger into the mix your character is barely functioning at all. Your character can’t stand up without immediately getting dizzy. Your character is saying stupid shit and making bad decisions. Your character is going to fall over before the bad guy swipes at them because they got motion sick trying to get into a ready fighting stance.

watching my husband get diagnosed with and treated for sleep apnea over the last year was not the thing that radicalized me re: weight and healthcare but my goodness it has solidified my stances.

sleep apnea is more common in people who are fat.

society decided for some reason that this meant that being fat causes sleep apnea. its often difficult to get referrals for sleep apnea treatment if you are fat, because some PCPs will tell you try losing weight first.

turns out!! having untreated sleep apnea causes weight gain in a not-insignificant number of people. it also makes it fucking impossible for many people to lose weight.

my husband worked out the same amount before he got a cpap as he does now. there have been no major diet changes either. yet he has been losing weight -- and gaining muscle tone -- consistently since he started using a cpap in january.

also, his blood pressure -- which was high, which docs blamed on his weight/diet -- went down significantly within one month of starting cpap treatment, before his weight changed significantly.

ANYWAYS. this is getting long. two final thoughts.

- if you are exhausted constantly for "no reason", and especially if you snore, you should probably ask your doctor about getting tested for sleep apnea. it is extremely common -- estimates are around 1 in 10 people -- and is also wildly under-diagnosed. like, some estimates suggest that 80% of people with moderate-severe sleep apnea are undiagnosed.

20 Ways Characters Show Fear Without Saying It

Fear doesn’t always scream.

Sometimes it whispers, hides, or slips out in the smallest gestures. If your character can’t or won’t admit what terrifies them, here are 20 ways to show it between the lines.

Laughing at the wrong moment because they don’t know what else to do.

Holding their breath without realising it.

Asking the same question two, three or even four times needing reassurance.

Keeping their back to the wall in crowded rooms.

Jumping at sounds they’d usually ignore.

Avoiding eye contact so no one sees the truth.

Touching an object or necklace like it’s grounding them.

Speaking in short, clipped sentences.

Checking exits as soon as they enter a room.

Fidgeting until they physically force their hands still.

Acting overly calm: too still, too controlled, to the point that one wrong movement will send them flying.

Freezing before they react, even for just a heartbeat.

Walking faster without being fully aware of it.

Laughing something off but their eyes stay wide.

Flinching when someone raises a hand too quickly.

Asking someone to stay "just in case."

Avoiding certain places without giving a real reason.

Rehearsing what they’re going to say before speaking.

Keeping their phone in hand like a lifeline.

Inability to sleep; waking at the slightest noise.

Your characters don't need to own up being afraid, but fear can be shown as a powerful driving force for each action your character takes.

Just think, what do YOU do when you're faced with crippling uncertainty and fears?

like, can we PLEASE bring some activism to the idea of walkable cities, abolishing HOA's, abolishing grass lawns, making cities less road-centric, rewilding certain urban areas, etc. ?? It's a legitimately cool and important thing that will determine the future of many countries.

the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.

As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.

There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.

We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.
