Oh, don't be so portentous!

It’s funny. Not funny as in laughing funny. Funny as in how the bravest thing I’ve ever done was run, or how I’m living the most turbulent years of my life aboard a ship called Serenity, or how I can stand unarmed in a room of killers, Dust Devils, and local warlords but know that the government considers me most dangerous.

Well, me, the most dangerous man in any room is very laughing funny.

The point is: it’s funny how I can fight so hard to hold what I have left of the Core–its values, its way of doing things–to the point that the word ‘clinging’ isn’t entirely inappropriate, yet I fight just as hard to keep myself out of Alliance hands. One would think it impossible to do both. But, maybe, I’m learning that they aren’t really the same thing after all.
