Bradley gives Hangman a look he hopes is reassuring. "As for these…" He continues, gesturing to their matching rings. "We take them off, get this thing annulled somehow. If it's even real to begin with."

"Oh, it's real. I found the paperwork." Hangman pinches the bridge of his nose as he scrunches his eyes closed. "No one has to know?"

It's a relief as Bradley hears it, but somehow it still stings. He always imagined his own wedding would be something like his parent's in the stories, surrounded by close friends and family and followed by a big reception with everyone he knows.

Except until recently, Bradley doesn't know who he would have invited. Before the mission he had no family, only a handful of friends and they were all deployed to every end of the Earth. It somehow fits that this is the wedding he got instead—a ceremony he doesn't remember and a husband who couldn't be more ready to bury the whole thing.

It's just Bradley's luck that he'd marry the one person who will never love him, possibly the only person who truly hates him.

The person who saved his life a few weeks ago.

Bradley jumps off that moving train of thought before it can take him any closer to the end of the line. "Right." He agrees. "No one has to know."
