i swear to god it made me sick reading captain's internal monologue--and despite how negative that sounds, please take that as the highest compliment; i felt this in my ribs, in my stomach; the entire thing was like smoke curling up my throat and it was the best thing ever.
so visceral, the way you write. how i love the payoff of the captain's self-hatred bubbling over and scalding everything and Engineer just holding them in his arms anyway because he's selfish too and FUCK.
how can you not be?? after going through hell and back over, and over, and over again; finally getting a moment of peace; Engineer doesn't care that that the peace is interrupted by the Captain's self hatred. he doesn't care if the Captain's thoughts about themselves were acid--he would let himself drown, splutter and choke through the poison until he reached them, until he could cradle them in his arms and make them see that he. doesn't. care.
and maybe it is the Captain's fault.
maybe it is.
but does that matter anymore? they've wasted too much time already.
just as long as it's his Captain, he'd take it.
he'd take everything.
"if you're not a good person, nobody is." PLEASE.
remember when i told you you cured my writer's block?
bark, i would quote every single line if i could, but i think you already know.
they're not okay.
i'm not okay. (in the best way possible.)
keep it up, b :)

blushing so hard right now-
yeah, no, they're both so unbelievably fucked. your honor, they're doomed and I'm pushing them even further off the edge <3 the Captain and Engie are my favorite to torture, really, they just set themselves up for it. they're the bugs that crawled into the jar on their own, and I'm, what, not supposed to shake it around?? please.
I'm so happy it ended up being good, I was kind of unsure about it hehe - thanks for all the kind words!

or, the fic where the Engineer and the Captain finally have a much needed conversation about everything that happened. (while the Captain blames themselves for everything that happened even though they did the best that they could in the situation that they were in)
tw: angst with a happy ending, cursing, mention of passive self-harm as a form of coping/visibility, intense self-hatred (from the Captain), crying

The lights of the warp core are starkly, obviously non-blinding when you walk in – and somehow, that's more uncanny than anything.
It's dusty – that you notice right away, with the kind of dust only machines can provide when giving a good amount of output, when they’re working hard - the kind of dust that’s mostly made up from ground metal shavings, that permeates the air like a sheer smog, cloying enough to hold some difference between it and fresh air, but not enough to smother you. It’s dusty, and dim, cast over in the soft, orangish light coming from the surrounding LED lamps plastered against the walls. Despite its hospital-like appearance, despite the cleanliness of the walls and the sleekness of its interior, it cannot escape what it is – a frigidly cold, unbearably hot, pumping vein of the ship, an experience behind closed doors, a ray of energy which could surpass any known fuel’s performative capability – and even when it’s squeaky clean, it’s still filthy. Because it’s metal. Because it’s a part of the ship. Because it represents the creaking heart in the grooves of the machine that stomps its way through space, carrying it all in its belly. Sensing the temperature, it wasn’t that far off from the sticky, acidic crevices of a human stomach, anyways. (Because of what it’s done. Because of what it’s doing to you. Still.)
But it isn’t on.
Only the lights around it are, providing a soft halo circling the enclosure of it – gently illuminating each passing body within the confines of it with a gentle caress, with a straightening of their suit’s fabric, pulling them down further into putty, into that warm sludge of blending together, or tearing apart. Sometimes you can’t imagine that it’s not a magnet, pulling you in further into its thrumming, encompassing warmth. Into the complexity of its design – cold, and meaningful yet incomprehensible, at least to you. You could stare into the lightning-like energy it produces for hours trying to figure it out, and you’d have not a barren clue. But that’s not your job, anyway. You’re better off doing other things. (You can imagine him doing that. Doesn’t he do that? You hope not, but… you have a feeling he does.)
You’d come here for this exact reason. To simmer away, to glue yourself to its heart and let it empty you out. The day was… well, for a change, it was more than you’d hoped for. Everyone needed you today, it seems, and you- you just, always tend to be the most attentive when the worst of you comes out. As if it’s a distraction for the oncoming storm, as if you could divert yourself into another state of mind just by dealing with something else for a change. Today was… scary. It’s the kind of pressure that overwhelms you, the kind of annoyance that laces your brain with a more than formidable opponent, the kind of bravery that renders you ignorant to every other problem except your own. You didn’t want to think today. Didn’t want to think about – everything that had happened, because what’s the goddamn point? It’s over, dead, done, finished, complete. What’s there to ponder over? Alas, like a wounded animal, it catches up to you – nuzzling against your leg, begging for attention. So, when you attempted to lay down and rest, ignore it again…
The simplest way to put it – you couldn’t. And ain’t that a fuckin’ joke?
One that the universe keeps bashing your head against, too. Someone else, you hope, didn’t have the same idea, but you’re quickly proven wrong – as when you enter, the first sight you’re greeted with is your Engineer’s back. Sweaty, the undershirt clinging to him like a wet towel, half-translucent where it’s been soaked, and the other, dry parts stained here and there with grease and remnants of smoke. The door shuts behind you with a hiss, sliding into place behind your feet, the standard-issue boots you have on clanking against the metal flooring, steel against titanium. As if it’s solidifying your place in this, as if it’s a prophecy, a hand against your shoulder that tugs you back into reality. ‘Don’t go.’, it whispers from the confines of your own imagination. God, you wish you could run, but the twitch in his shoulders, his wince at the sound – it’s enough for the pity to sink in, for the absorption of it to become fully rendered, and you hesitate. He doesn’t.
The Engineer looks at you – not turning his body, but tossing his head over his shoulder, only slightly twisting in place as to not injure himself, as to keep himself steady, yet aware. There’s a tiredness to him – and your own bones ache in solidarity. It’s not the kind of tiredness that tugs at your heartstrings, not the kind of tiredness that makes you sympathetic, or reliable, or coddling. It’s the kind of tiredness that makes you ill, makes you sway, makes your vision swim and bile rise in the back of your throat. (No matter how much you love him, no matter how much you care, you can’t reject that feeling, you can’t undo it. You wish you could. You wish you could look at him the way you used to.) “Captain.”, he addresses you – small, and weak, breathy, as if he’d just run a mile at moderate to high speed, suddenly now without air to support his own speech. And you aren’t faring much better, stuck there, a statue in a sea of stars, a wooden cross stuck into the abyssal dirt. A crossroads that doesn’t even know where to spread its wings, where to lay its pathways. He’s looking at you expectedly, a slight smile, as he always is – but you see beyond that. You see beyond the tired smile, the dust gathering at his waterline, the way his hands shake slightly, the way he stutters and stops at your presence, the way his eyebrows crease his face (Some would think in concentration, but no. His are always relaxed when he’s concentrating, always an emotionless expression, always aloof and knowing. He’s never confused – instead, just a step away from the right solution. Well. Except that one time. Or was it just once? You can’t remember. So when the creases start, you know what they mean. It’s nothing good.)
There’s an air of staleness that you sense potently, as though it’s coming from you. Those theories about people being able to sense emotions through scent keep ringing through your head, mainly because you can see his gears turning in his head, trying to grasp the picture completely – sniffing you out like a bloodhound. The picture of you, hesitating at the door. God, the feeling of wanting to vomit is getting worse. Your legs skid – catching on the metal before they turn into a full step, just a hair away from backing away completely. You didn’t come here for this. You didn’t come here to moan, to grieve, to reminisce – and yet here he is. Like an old war veteran at a run-down, edge of the universe kind of bar, those you saw when you were just starting out, older generations who’d done the space exploring for you, giving you new horizons to spring off of. Some were happy. Some were like you. Destroyed, you guess you could say. And Engineer? You weren’t too keen on splitting a drink with him. (You didn’t want to remember. You didn’t want to say the things you could say. The things that sound suspiciously like ‘It gets better.’ and ‘We’ll be okay.’, because frankly? You’d been hearing yourself repeating it in your head the entire day, hell- since you’d come back. As if a lie could be the foundation for a better future. As if it could erase all that’s happened.)
“Captain?”, he asks again, the wrench in his hand clinking where it meets the surface of the warp core (deactivating it fully, you hope, just like you'd agreed) – crouched in front of it, hands on it to keep him in place as he moves even further towards you, swinging his body around – like a child he means to protect from you. Or from himself? Or use it as a crutch? Who knows. This was a mistake, coming here. But a pull nonetheless – a solid, concrete block on your brain that was only relieved when you entered here. (Maybe because he’s here.) Is it something that will rid you of your misdeeds? Or is it just a ploy, just a killer coming back to the crime scene? “Funny.”, you mutter faintly, before catching yourself. You hadn’t meant to say that, you think as you cough awkwardly, fist curled in front of your mouth and legs shifting from place to place, swishing your body weight around. “Funny,”, you repeat, trying to pull of some sort of saving of your own dignity, “- uhm, seeing you here. Isn’t it late?” For all intents and purposes, he gives you the grace of not doubting you. You know he does – who wouldn’t, seeing your less than graceful entrance – but he doesn’t show it. (Shows how good of an actor he’s become, since…) His shoulders loosen, if only a tad, and with a grumble of his own, he’s hoisting himself to his feet, the wrench set aside into the toolbox he’s brought with him – producing a sound akin to sliding rubber against rubber, a muffled squeak combined with the ever-shifting dirt that crumbles beneath the sole. His knees creak with the action, though you know they didn’t use to. He was always bouncy – smiling, bright, so much so you thought you could throw him against a wall and he’d bounce right back to smile at you, to say it was fun for you to do so, to ask you to do it again, all squishy and melty like a gummy bear left out in the sun. Now he creaks like an old man (Don’t go there. He’s not there yet.), a grumble being the undercurrent to his chipper voice, sickly sweet but drenched in a soft rumble that used to make you feel safe. Now all it does is make you ill. (Everything does.)
When he turns to you, you notice everything. The little sparkle in his eyes, that used to be so vibrant but now sits like a soaked ball of fur, right there, next to his pupil, a torn-apart rag left out in the rain. The way he hadn’t shaved his face in quite some time, leaving him with a stubble. The way his undereyes darken, even more apparent under the dimness of the lights, heavy and pregnant with deep, yearning cascades of hurt, waves that pulsate throughout the capillaries underneath the skin, that show shed and unshed tears alike, that prick with that sudden solemnity of a life relived, lost, relived, relived, relived. The way his hands seem almost bruised, heavily red with viscous traces of irritation, from gripping tools too hard to manage and the imprints of nails and otherwise sharper machine parts from where it dug into his skin. It hurts just looking at it. And you have to force yourself to meet it all. It’s like a funeral – the more you look, the worse you feel, but you have to look. You can’t ignore it forever, no matter how harmful it may be to your own psyche. (You can’t look away, because a part of you is grateful for it. For something that hurts on the outside, for something visible, because this – just seems like an endless scream for help nobody can really see. At least, when he’s hurt, people can ask him if he’s okay – and then, he’ll have a chance to say something. You doubt he will. But at least he’ll have a chance.) “Yeah. It is.”, he mutters, the calm in his voice somehow more relieving than the high-pitched, expressive tonality of his usual spiel. More real. More, him. The way he is, not the way he’s supposed to be. The bare feet, instead of those covered by the very shoes he’s meant to fill.
Your eyes flutter, and you hesitate. Again. It seems like you’re always hesitating these days. A part of you – that nasty, self-destructive part, wants to rush in and comfort. Wants to lie, say that everything’s going to be okay, that you’re alive, and real, and he’s him again. That you saved him for a reason. That it’s you, and him, and that nothing else matters. But it does. Everything matters now. How many years will you have to keep pretending until you’re free of the memories of it all? Will you ever be? Free? And so, the pitying stance of a fellow survivor feels more like chewing on bark – harsh, coarse, tough, gamy, ripping apart and damaging to the teeth – but a method of survival, the very last option that you never want to need to reach for. It feels like tearing a piece of you apart to give to him. But, unfortunately, you’re all out of yourself to give, because you’re rotten yourself. Because you feel like nothing, like a numb piece of equipment, like a part of the ship in a way that makes you into another machine that he has to fix. But he can’t fix everything. And neither can you. “And you?” The Engineer is looking at you from the corner of his eye, like someone who can barely meet your own gaze himself. Like he’s waiting for you to pounce. Like he’s waiting to be comforted. Would he push you away? Would he jump into your own arms? Or would he hurt you? Just to spite you? The brown in his eyes used to be like that of a loyal dog, of a friend. Now? It feels like the void, threatening to comfort you into numbness. Now, it feels like a blanket that wants to suffocate you, an illusion of what it used to be, and a picture of what it always could be, but chose not to be around you.
“What are you doing here?”
You sniffle, feet sliding against the floor until they come together. Standing as stiff as a board, you feel everything. The weight of your suit, of your rank, of your badges, of your responsibility – it feels like a truck dumped on top of you, smells like the sea you could drown yourself in – and oil grease, and regret. And tastes like the bitterness of the tears, of which you’d bore witness to so many times since you’d come back, staring back at your own reddening eyes in the floor-length mirror embedded into the wall of the Captain’s quarters. It’s so heavy. All of it. So for a second, you decide, you’re too tired to sit here and make up some dumb excuse. Pretend you’re a paper mache doll that twiddles around his fingers as if hooked up to a carousel, round and round the same set of emotions, and doubts, and fears. There’s no point. So why not be honest? “I don’t know.”, you almost whisper, the lump in your throat bigger than any other you’d faced. The sides of your pharynx burn with a fire that clogs it up completely, and you know that’s the first warning sign you have before you dissolve completely, a pill in an overfilled glass of water. The suit you have on is too large. It’s exactly your size, and it’s still… too large for someone like you. Someone not worthy of your position. Someone not worthy of his time. Someone who could actually gather up the balls it takes to sit there and show you’ve got some spirit, someone who could encourage, gather up all his bits and mend him into wholeness. But you can’t. How did you get here? You’re not worthy of this man. You’re not worthy to be called Captain. It’s too much. You don’t want to do it anymore.
“’M just…”, you’re hesitating, “Tired.” But the truth is so much more painful. Admitting to yourself that you’re tired, that you’re too little, in your head – sure, fair play. But out loud? To him? It feels like a death sentence. And as you trudge to the side of the room, sliding against the wall under his curious gaze, a soft squeeeeak as your uniform collides with it, irritated underneath the slickness of the plates, the lump grows even further, a snowstorm that travels down your esophagus and lands in your stomach, a lump of steel that fills it completely. You can feel him looking – tracing your silhouette with those wide, peering eyes – and you want to cry and vomit at the same time. Because you have… nothing. There is nothing. In that void, in the loops – you’d lost pieces of yourself you feel like you’ll never get back, and him? He has too. And now, it’s your responsibility, yours, to find them, to fix him, to put him back together, to form your group back together, to be a soon-to-be Colony Leader, and you just, can’t. You can barely get out of bed. It takes you hours to get ready. You’d even started taking what little sedatives you have in the Infirmary to try and stabilize yourself, to get through the day – miniscule portions, enough to zombify you, enough to make you back into a machine. And you keep going, keep moving, keep braving on – because they need a Captain. (Maybe not you. But you’re all they have.) There’s a silence that overtakes you both. A soft humming of the core, as if it’s breathing alongside you, your face in your hands, knees bunched up to your chest, breathing into the space of your palms. Just breathing. Just existing. Just for a second.
You don’t know how much time passes, but there’s an equally pathetic squeeeeeeak, though this one sounds more slick, right next to you, and a soft thump created by the meeting of fabric against the hard floor, a sharp skr-skr-skr of boots as they inch more towards the center, making room for the body next to you in small increments. A warmth to your right, but you don’t react. It scares you – being comforted. The idea of it. Alike you, you feel as though he would try it. As though he would attempt to be nice, attempt to comfort, to sling an arm across your shoulders and pat your back with an open arm, to embrace you. You hate that. You hate that you can see him doing that – because you shouldn’t be letting him. He shouldn’t be able to do that, to give himself away, just like you can’t. It’s only fair. And yet, you know he would try, rip himself apart to help you, like he has all these years, and that only makes you want to cry harder. “Yeah.”, comes a close, warm, response, just inches away from you. Makes you slink back, makes you regret coming, again, makes you shy and vulnerable all at the same time. Because it sounds hurt. It’s a never-ending conflict – either the guilt of surviving or the guilt of being too much. Either guilt for him, or for you, and you don’t know even where to begin to discern which one is worse. Or where to start solving either, so that, at least – there can be only one to bother you. It’s a war, in your head – to love, to be loved. And at the very tip of the sword pointed at your throat, down the barrel of the gun looking at you straight in the eyes, it sits – the nihilism of it all, the ending tag question of ‘What’s the point?’. Because, really, what is the point? Sitting here, crying over it? Getting angry? Throwing a fit?
The only solution you have, really, is to live.
One day at a time, even if that day is just painful, over and over again. Even if you have nothing to hold on to, except… living for other people. They have no one else. And you’re stuck here. It’s a fitting punishment. Living through what you know, not being able to share it with anyone else. (But you do. You just don’t want to overburden him. You’re just scared of talking about it. You’re scared you’re so fragile, that he’s so fragile, that you’ll break something. Again.) When you get your hands off your face, you’re frozen. Just sitting there. Breathing. Forming wormholes in your head, loops in loops, but not really going anywhere – like a pipeline screensaver. Breathing. Staring at the scruffs along the floor of the warp core room. And feeling his warmth, right beside you, an inch away – not enough to touch you, but enough to let you know he exists. You hate that it helps, to some extent. The faux leather of your gloves feels wrong. Constricting. Itchy. But you don’t have the energy to pull them away. The Engineer’s breath, a steady sigh and inhale next to you, provides a rhythm to it all – like a star map to an unknown system, to another Milky Way, exactly like this, but with parts removed, or added, with crevices unexplored, planets moved an inch to the left. Familiar, uncanny. Grounding, but hurtful. The guilt eats away at you further. “You know, uh-“, he starts, slow and languid, at the speed of dripping honey, with a gulp in between the sentences, “I was, really happy to see you. In the end.”
Your brows furrow slightly. They would’ve even more had you had the ability to emote more than you were able to, frozen in space and time with the same intensity as you had frozen your own thoughts over, pushing them out of the painting of the gnawing hurt you feel. “Hm.”, is all you can manage, a little thoughtful hum and no more. You’d ask him questions, usually – but you can’t. An immobile, devoted therapist – a walkie-talkie he can put all his thoughts into. In one ear and out the other. (But you know your brain will dig the conversation out later.) “Like-“, There’s a shift of fabric to your side, a glide of a hand over his beige pants, with a press like how he usually does it – that, you can imagine without even thinking about it – pushing hard into his skin as if he can rub off the sweat gathering on his palms and at the same time, eliminate the glands producing it, scrape them off him. “I was angry, but-“ He sniffs, a small, barely audible sound, scrunching up his nose in that particular Engineer way that it does, “I was happy to see you. You, specifically. I didn’t tell you about that.”
The act of having to focus and face that sentence makes you doubt yourself. Are you hearing correctly? Happy? You suppose he would be, if what he said was true, but – he would be happy regardless, no matter who it was. Stuck in that small, warp core room outside of any known loop, fixing it over and over again, like he is now – that is, if what he said really is true. That no one had visited him. That no one had been in that loop until you, until the end, and even then… you were not the determining variable. That much must be true. It’s just the elation, just the emotions present in the moment, just- “I don’t think you were.” You hate being contradictory, but, you don’t really have the strength to be anything but brutally honest, right now. “You would’ve been happy to see anyone, at that moment.” You blink, shifting your hands around as if to wipe imaginary dust off your clothes. The soft whooshing sounds of the fabric glide over your words like a tarp of a tent, shielding them against the rain brewing in your head. “Don’t give me more credit than I deserve. Please.” Your voice is rough, aged, crumbling away like parts of a mountain, except your words don’t make an avalanche, or a landslide. More like a creeping dusk, settling into the night with underlying terror and a petrified whistle into the dark. Your knees are more relaxed, away from you now and spread apart enough for you to settle in between them – a bit away from you, but with your back not entirely plastered to the wall, whereas his is. Two gazes, two different directions – his, into the ceiling, and yours – into the floor of the warp core room. Clashing diagonals of sight. “I was.”, he insists, with a firmness in his voice that almost sounds like stubbornness. Well, that’s new. He’s usually one to lay low, to follow your lead – now, standing up for himself? Even if it is something to just piss you off? You’re both annoyed and in a weird way, proud. Only takes, what, the universe colliding into itself and collapsing for him to start trying to contradict you? (Something about a joke, again.)
“I really… missed you, Captain.”
That title makes you inhale sharply and your face contort into an aching grimace, eyebrows twitching out of line and the bags under your eyes zipping rapid fire into squinting your eyes, relaxing them moments after. Your chest feels heavy with regret, filling like an aquarium with fish that bite at your lungs, drowning you and eating you alive at the same time. For a second, you’re speechless – it takes quite a bit of effort to say something again, the air bubbling up your throat in a sway that leaves you breathless, pushing out in one big wave that stays put in your mouth, as if you were just punched there – right there, underneath your ribcage. And then the hurt pours in, the mistakes, the feeling of ‘You shouldn’t have’ but not in the way a friend says it, in a way that a long-lost one does, now turned enemy. Really, you think to yourself, he should hate you. He should want to kill you. Even if it was him, in the end, you didn’t make the situation any better, and even if it was the two of you, a team, together, it was also you- together, sharing the weight of the universe. Sharing the guilt in front of a court you had no idea existed. And even if you didn’t know, that doesn’t erase it. He should hate you. (The way you hate yourself. How many universes in which you didn’t survive? Do they keep going? Do they stay the same? Or are they destroyed with you? Are they anchoring themselves onto you? Onto your existence, onto your character as a pivotal role? You hate that you don’t know, but maybe that’s better. Maybe you’d hate yourself even more if you did.)
“Don’t call me that.”, you finally manage, voice gruff and gravel-like, strained like a taut wire. “Then what should I call you?” He responds immediately, and you can feel his eyes on the back of your head, nestling their laser precise gaze between the strands of your hair, underneath the fabric of your own beret. “Nothing.”, You mutter. The silence returns, more echoey than ever, vibrating between you – as if the intensity of your emotions could relay exactly what you want it to, without any words, but you know it can’t. Most things you want right now can’t happen, and that hurts you like a knife to the back, piercing, shimmying between your spinal discs and twisting sideways. Why are things always difficult? Why can’t things go back to what they were? “Captain.”, he repeats himself, and you have half a mind to not turn around and slap him. In fact, you don’t even have that, too lost in your guilt, but that’s exactly what stops you, too. “I was hoping you’d find me. I don’t… blame you.” “Well you should!” The way you whip around is violent, and you can see the surprise in his eyes at the outburst.
He looks almost angelic in the way he straightens up against the wall – back straightening from its contorted, shrimp-like bend with his pelvis jutting out into the floor, into a board nailed across the wall with a fervor that could make a shape in the wall with its swiftness. But his eyes – just a small inclination of surprise, a small widening with a gentle parting of the mouth, till you could only see the bottom of his front teeth – eternally soft, all around, the kind of plushness that makes you jealous and then feel even worse, because he’s been like that forever. He’d never changed, and yet now he has. And you hurt him. This soft, genuine, outspoken version of him – you hurt him. (He’ll never be the same.)
“How many times did you die?”, You ask seriously, the gulp at the back of your throat growing as you look at him. The way his eyes flicker, remembrance flooding in, flicking through all the memories, hands barely trembling and grasping onto his pants for stability. He’s not looking at you as he’s remembering, and when he does, it’s with a steady kind of grief in his irises that makes you want to sink into the floor. “I don’t know.”, he whispers, and then, with a more sure voice, continues, “A lot.” “And how many of those were my fault?” Your words stab at him accusatorily, like a pointer finger being pressed into his chest, and the Engineer almost flinches at them as you spit them out. Your gaze is burning into him now, the same way his did when he was looking at the back of your head. He blinks a couple times, gaze veering off to the side of your head, off into the distance as he barely noticeably squints before he finishes thinking about it, seriously thinking about it, and gazes back at you. “I don’t know, most of them? But they're not-”
That’s all you need as you collapse against the wall, your shoulders hitting the metal with a soft thump, fabric moving out of the way, bunching up together to serve as some half-assed pillow. “And you missed me.” You never look away – the gaze you hold empty, disbelieving against his now concerned, warm one. You want to kill him. (Again.) You want to get out of here. You want to go back to your quarters and cry into your own bed, but you can’t move. Your legs aren’t listening to you, and for that matter, neither is most of your body, copying his positioning, both of you looking to the side over your shoulder at each other. The tone with which you say it is sarcastic, borderline trying not to laugh and cry at the same time.
There’s something warm on your hand. For a second you think it’s your suit’s self-heating mechanism that you had built in ages ago, but then it moves, and there are fingers interlacing with yours, nervously inching their way over your hand. Hands laying on your thigh, his fingers finding the spaces to fit as he blankets your hand with his, worming his way in as his eyes soften at you, becoming smaller in that upturned way that they do, lighting up the way he used to whenever he saw you. They’ve somehow gotten more brown, more human that you’ve ever seen him to be. Or maybe that’s just you, seeing him for who he truly is. You’ve always treated him like a tool, haven’t you? “You’re a good person.”, he hushes, voice soft and malleable where it surges from his mouth to your ears, a wool padding against your rusty battle armor. “And I care about you. I wanted to see you safe, no matter what happened. So, I really, I think, was happy, despite everything, that it was you who came through the door.” While holding your hand, he scooches closer to you, a small shift, bumping to your side, until you’re almost nose-to-nose. You can barely see it – something murky and muddled that clouds your vision, and there’s a warmth across your cheeks that seems wetter than your own sweat from the heat of the core.
“’M not.”, you sniffle, the sound echoing through the core with ease from the volume of it. “’M not a good person.”, you clarify, and there’s a squeeze at where he grips your hand. “Then nobody is.” He coos, looking at you as if you’re weighing him down from becoming better than you, and as if he loves the feeling of it. As if he’d stay down here with you, rather than be anywhere else. “If you aren’t a good person, then nobody is, has been, or will be.”
There’s a small smile tugging at his lips at that, a joke that burns you like someone opened the hatch of your torso and threw in a sizzling mound of coal into it. There’s a wet line from your left eye that’s reached your chin now, crooked from the way your head leans against the wall. “You are.”, you protest, your right arm lifting weakly in protest if only to point a small accusatory finger at him before it flops back to your side. “You shouldn’t- sniff – be comfortin’ me. I’m- I- did bad things. I killed you. So, many times. And- and-“, you stop for a second to gulp down the air needed to continue, too out of it with your crying to breathe properly, “And you’re- you still- care, about me. And, you’re hurtin’ too. It’s- sniff – selfish to, be cryin’, like thi-is.”, you complain between sobs. The entire time, his breath, steady and warm, fans across your cheeks as he listens to you.
In a controlled, slow movement, he shifts – (a part of you wants to grip onto him, to stop him-) only to readjust, shimmy his hand across your shoulders and pull you into him, your head now leaning back into his chest, torsos half intertwining, like a zipper left half open. “Then be selfish.” His voice is breathy, but safe and soft when he speaks inches away from your ear, your own hand gripping his like a lifeline, “I’m being selfish too. It’s okay.” The breath he lets out after is stuttery, small hitches laid throughout, but you can’t see his face. “H-how?”, you whisper, gulping again and again in order to try to keep the tears down enough to talk, to not completely dissolve in his arms, in his love. In his stupid, stupid, blind affection. “’Cause I’ve been wanting to be this close to you, too. Selfish in how I wanted to hold you since we got out of that… paradox.” Now he’s gulping, right next to you, where you can hear it – and right against you, where you can feel his chest, “I just wanted to make sure you’re real. I was hoping you were.” A deep exhale. “So just cry. I know you need it.”
And when he leans his head next to yours, his other snaking underneath your free arm and pushing you into himself, you can feel wetness that collides with the one on your own face as you cry. (Two kinds. One silent, a hushed, layered kind of weeping, and the other loud and unabashed, like a child finally coming to your senses.)
You don’t remember when you pass out. But you know it’s warm, and wet, and that the hurt you carry is a little less.
“I’m tired too, Captain. So be selfish, just a bit, with me. For me."
You don’t talk about it hours after, when you wake up in his arms, his back against the wall and arms circling you like a nest, or an overlapping of limbs feeling faintly like home. You just wait there. Savoring it. Nuzzling yourself further into him. (After all, how long until you can feel this again?) There’s a faint sense of normalcy that makes you think about the fear of someone walking in on this, the kind of small embarrassing moment that makes you feel human, if even for just a second. A Captain, tear-stricken, with the sticky residue of salt coating their cheeks, settled into the greased-up arms of their Engineer, breathing in the dust of the warp core room. Eventually you’ll get up. Continue with your day. Breathe in normal air again. But for now… you can stay. A little longer. The universe can wait. Just for another minute.
And when you meet again, during one routine check or another, he doesn’t push. But you do, gripping his hand in a fond squeeze that sounds awfully like ‘Thank you.’.
heya :) you dont have to reply to this, it's alright. i know i haven't been here long but hey, i mean with reading all your fics, ive seen a lot of glitter bubble and they seem cool enough--i'm sorry about what happened.
people do what they want; all you can do is try and control what you can. you're doing your best. regardless, i hope you're okay; don't push yourself trying to get all the asks out. take all the time you need :)
-starlight
hey, thanks for your consideration. I've been taking a few days off since, I don't think I'll be doing nsfw for a hot second. (trust me, I've tried. I had a fic half done, too, and now I can barely look at it, bleh.)
but they'll get done eventually. I'll do my own ideas in the meantime, probably. as right as you are, it still makes me feel... off. somewhat. you put so many warnings, and still- I just wanted to say thanks, for reaching out. makes me feel better, so, it's much appreciated :]
never thought I'd have to say this considering how many 'MINORS DNI' warnings I have plastered on here, plus the warnings set up by tumblr, but...
in order to request nsfw from me, please make sure you are at least eighteen years old.
if you are currently in a position where you are not, and you have requested something from me, let me know immediately so that I may erase your ask. I do not allow 18+ content to be presented to minors, no matter how close to adults you may be. this is why I have warnings. this is why I put trigger warnings. this is why I have it in my bio.
if you are a minor currently in a position of interacting with 18+ content on my page, thus nsfw content, please stop. immediately. revoke your notes, whatever they may be, and do not interact again with my work of that caliber. this is your first and final warning. all content that touches on minors not being allowed to interact is set up so for a reason, and if you do it anyways - you are breaching my own consent and the rules of this blog. I will not be sharing that responsibility with you, I refuse to. if you view nsfw content as a minor, but do not interact, that is on you, and your own responsibility.
glitter bubble anon will no longer be involved with this blog, and will no longer be allowed to request, nor engage with any of my other anons. I hope it's clear as to why, and I apologise to all my other anons for this, but I am firm through and through on my rules. I came to this decision as soon as I have been informed of the situation.
on another note, I will be closing my requests for the time being to focus on the asks I have, since they're piling up. I'm really sorry for how long they're taking, but when I have a lot, I'm unable to focus on just one, so even though I should not be making excuses, I am sorry for those who are loyally following along. I should have something for you soon. thank you for reading.

touch tank by quinnie but its the simon fic you wrote where he learns to be affectionate ARHGH I WAS RE-READING IT TO THAT SONG AND I am SCREAMING PLS YOU WRITE HIM SO SOFT AND ITS LIKE
no one will EVER know the violence it took for simon become this gentle--not even you, and yet you're still trying, still showing him he is deserving of love i can just imagine his hands shaking the first few times it happens and its so :((
-starlight
so! uh... remember how i said id probably be lurking?; i feel a majority of these arent going to be asks--mostly just messages for you, my dear writer--so i apologize in advance
don't apologize to me for talking to me. now that's insulting (apologizing to me, I mean). don't ever apologize to me for that, hahaha
my inbox is open for expressly this reason- (my dear reader <3)
oh, and I listened to the song. first off, on my playlist and that's on sight. at first chorus repeat. thank you so much for introducing me to it. second, yes. that is so Simon, even down to the like, ocean metaphors and allegories, ughhhh it's so him, it's so Reader and him!! and thank you for all the compliments, I love that you love him as much as I do!
(I need to baby that man. I need to wrap him up into a blanket and let him cry on my shoulder, I need to break him down and build him up all over again, I need to make him trusting and loving, I need to melt him over a fire like a chocolate bar on a stick until all he has is those loving insides- feral. I am feral for this man. yes his hands probably shake terribly the first time. but let me wrap them up for him in my own PLEASE PLEASEPLEASE-)
it's completely okay! i was just curious if you knew about them :DD i get what you mean about it not being feasible--especially if we stick to the canon details (because yes, i'm also a sucker for details); and i'll be honest? im not really into crossover ships for the same reason. (as a matter of fact; i've tried right after to go check out media on other popular crossover ships, but i find that BM is somehow the only one i'm into TT)
BUT what got me into BM specifically are not just the parallels; because if that were the case i wouldve gotten into crossover ships a long time ago (like jelsa--which is cool if you're into it, but i haven't really seen the connection other than the ice powers) were the infinite possibilities of what the entity could be, and what a mutated star-eater could do :DD
antistellarisms' where nothing bleeds is a great fic to start on i think because it really sticks to the idea that grace just cant believe how simon survived, and it analyzes sciences in a way that would make sense for the ship! (involves a whole lot of willpower and adapted astrophage. also im pretty sure it went viral for being peer reviewed and approved by a NASA engineer!) still, though--especially if you favor a certain hc--completely understand how you dont see the ship working out :))
ive tried writing BM myself and am trying to find a way to stitch the lore together in a way that makes sense because im pretty similar to you in terms of trying to get all the details right on both sides of the ship and not just putting 'em in a blender and going kumbaya--but the latter is always a great solution. if the fics and fanart ive seen are anything?? they're absolutely beautiful (besides, i'm guilty of doing that too for other ships haha)
i've actually never heard of convineer! that's so interesting. and yes i agree, engineer is way too deep in for the captain to do anything else. tbf only if they died, and definitely a long time after that--he'd probably find simon or smth in one of his wormholes, and then...
there i go putting 'em into a blender myself. woops :DD
as for my writing, i promise that one day soon i'll take you up on that offer; my ao3 will be for your eyes alone--that way my anonymity can stay a while longer ;)
either way! love your insights on those two <33 tysm for the detailed response haha i'll send some proper asks your way soon because boy have i got some ideas for you :))
yeah, the Entity is a very interesting concept, I'm always going back and forth on what it could be, how to figure it out, comparing it to other things - I've mainly used it on this blog as a sort of power with some degree of sentience? mainly because we don't really have any proof of why it started working with the Actor in the first place, as far as I'm aware - so it could be just, oh it feeds on negative emotions, or, it's an old god we're not aware of, or it's a Backrooms type entity that is a universe within a universe, containing a multitude of universes within itself, like a deck of cards in a vacuum, in a box, or as a compartment of a filing cabinet that is reality (meaning that the characters themselves, Actor and Damien and everyone we know, aren't reality at all, but just a predecessor, a layer before even that layer split into everything else). (ugh, I have such a good headcannon for the Reader of my platonic oneshot for it, I just can't reveal anything aaagh) or, has anyone done anything with like, mutated Simon x mutated Grace? as in like, being changed by the astrophage, or headcannoning the astrophage/the new variant of astrophage they create as more of a virus or radiation type thing where it could potentially infect Grace? or - think about this - the astrophage being the Entity's way into Grace's universe as in, the Entity in particle form? or like a virus? or so otherwordly from that loop that it cannot infect anything, but is still present? and that can potentionally, willingly or accidentally, keep creating wormholes, like portals? or shift timeloops in a sense that there are multiple universes of how/if Simon survives, in some of which he's just getting plucked up from and landing somewhere completely new? (leading to the question of how reliable is the power of the Entity, and whether it's sentient at all - or is it more of a glitch in the system, rather than a power or a monster? I could go on, honestly, but I don't want to bog down the ask too much) mmmmmm anonnnn you've got me thinkinggggg (feel free to use these ideas if you want to for your own lore for bloodymary, as you've said)
holy hell, a NASA engineer?? that's insane! and so, so amazing! oh, I'll definetly give that a read sometime, thank you for the recommendation!
and yeah, as I said - listen, sometimes characters just need to go into the blender, and I get that. it's not a want, it's a need. guys, we need to see them happy and thriving, and who cares if I break the universe for that to happen, hahahahah
(also, reader privileges? for me???? awwwwh, anon!! I can't waaaait! I'm so honored!! feel free to slide into my DMs with that, whenever you're up for it. or an ask, whatever you please. aaaah, I'm so excited!!)
I'm excited for you to request more! I've got a ton of asks lined up right now, so it may take a minute - but feel free to jump in whenever my requests are open :)
hii! starlight here--thank you so much for taking my requests hehe; can't wait to see what you do with them :DD
on that note--i do write! ive just had a writer's block for the past few months, and reading your fics have single-handedly dragged me out of that pit :)) all i can sing for you are praises, really, i can't thank you enough <33
now not necessarily an ask, but out of curiosity have you heard of ryland grace x simon? and what're your thoughts on 'em?
hello, hello! no problem, haha. thank you so much for requesting!
no waaaay! that's like, super flattering! awww, I'm so happy I was able to help, if even somewhat. (if you ever want to slide me something you wrote, please do! I love reading my anons' stuff, hehe)
oh, of course I've heard of bloodymary. it's been a sort of a conflict for me, I guess? I know Mark talked about it and how he approves, or at least that he's aware of it - I swear that clip got spammed everywhere, it still pops up for me on here sometimes. but uh, personal thoughts? saying this as a person who is not above shipping egos together, but uh- and I say this with much anxiety and trepidation - I don't really get the appeal. (hides my face behind my hands)
(small rant incoming)
and let me tell you why! so, to be clear, I did see both Iron Lung and Project Hail Mary, so I am fully caught up on both of their lore parts (though I have not read PHM in book form, but eventually, I probably will, seems interesting enough) and I just- I can't. I don't know, for me it just feels like people really put the two movies together as a sort of 'hey both of these guys are in space and that's good enough for us' + maybe even the sort of influence of the movies being out in the same year/around the same time? like people did when Oppenheimer and Barbie came out, kind of glueing them together. which, from a fanfiction perspective side of things - I mean, if that's enough for you, sure! go off, do your thing. for me though? I cannot get over the fact that it does not make sense (to me). like, at all.
I know a lot of people talk about like, Simon kind of floating into the orbit of the Hail Mary, meeting that way, or something or the other - but really, I was always more into the headcannons about Simon mutating on the AT-5, or staying there in general (which is why I gripped onto RandomWriter28's work so much and why it inspired me to write about it) - him getting off the moon in any way doesn't really make sense to me. and even if we look at it from a timeloop perspective - the only way that could happen would be if somehow Dark got involved? or the Entity? in which case - why send Simon to this whole, desolate universe to just float around, so far away from the Earth? near the Hail Mary? or on/into the Hail Mary itself? I don't know, it just doesn't compute for me, and so I've kind of stayed away from it because there are too many vague details. (and those who know, know that I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my details)
as characters, though, I like their duality. as in, kind of nervous, dorky, isolated man x someone plagued by the horrorsTM healing together and learning to live together and be happy - of course I'm a sucker for that. who isn't? but it's less about how they would work. the fact is that they couldn't work at all - or at least, I don't see how they could ever meet unless we pull some really heavyduty plot breaking maneuvers? I like the dynamic of Rocky getting in there too, as a sort of weird, alien, wingman? and the whole aspect of Simon being afraid of Rocky because, well, he's an alien - last time Simon's seen anything like that was the Eel down under the ocean. there's a really significant portion of that dynamic just dedicated to healing and getting over what happened, and it really is what Simon needs, so if I were to be into it, it'd probably be for that. (in short, if Simon's happy, I am too, hahah)
as a side note, I've seen people talk about convineer too? as a sort of, like, first ego x ego ship that came about when Iron Lung popped up onto the scene - and that, I can actually see happening. as in, they could meet, if we reign in all the timeloop stuff, but also - I doubt it would work? for me, Engineer's way too into the Captain to do anything with anyone else. only if like, the Captain died, because I think that even if he got rejected he would continue trying, to some degree? always keep a little bit of hope on him, and even then he'd be too crushed to get with anyone else for a longer amount of time. maybe a Captain x Simon x Engineer thing could work? but I'm genuinely just throwing ideas out there.
but yeah, no. summary states: I don't think I'd ever write something for that ship, if that's something anyone is interested in. no shade to people that do - I've seen some fanart and some fanfiction just to check if I'm really in it or not, and all of it is really, really well done and the concept is awesome and the writing's stellar, and it's cute and adorable and so cozy, and- and- yeah. really proud of the community for that bit, haha. everyone's kind of latched onto it, and I'm happy we can unify at least in that regard, and the connotations surrounding the whole ship are really funny (as in, the reaction given by Mark and the whole idea of these two fully-grown men who are barely aware of each other being shipped together, hahaha). sadly, just not for me, I guess.
but if you want to educate me on it more, sure, why not? or if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I'm always up for reading stuff, though just in this case I will not be writing anything myself. sorry if you got your hopes up!
also because i might be, well, lurking here for a bit
(hi this is the anon who called your writing intimate--i have no other way to describe it; or i do, but it doesnt feel like enough-
hopefully you wont mind me putting myself down as starlight anon :))
tysm again!!
welcome into the community, starlight anon!! so happy to have you with us!!
taking this opportunity to thank you for the comments, as I will be using your other ask as an anchor to attach the things you requested to it - but thank you so much! talking about how good my writing is and then describing it in a way that has me flabbergasted. why aren't you writing??? hahaha
I love both your ideas, and if I can, I'll try to do them both justice! stay tuned <3 (and feel free to message me with any other ideas that may crop up, or just for fun, like most my anons do already. don't be shy!)
uni's out (for the next month and a half). speedrunning my asks is in. ('finally!' I scream as I bang on the bars of my enclosure, tears flowing down my face)

brought to you unexpectedly by my sprained ankle. (featuring Dark and Simon because I had thoughts while recovering - Dark specifically for chronic illnesses + Simon for general physical injuries) - also, Nxva asked for sickfic headcannons so I guess this also kind of fits? for Simon, anyways. I'll add more in the actual post for it but yeah. here's a taste of that, haha
tw: mention of physical injury, mention of chronic illness, a small, tiny allusion to nsfw for Simon in the end, but that's in red text so don't read that if you don't want to, mention of body distortion in Dark's part, maybe not that good of a representation of chronic illnesses/injuries? idk man I'm trying really hard :[
word count: 5127
Simon the Convict
> if you were ever in any way physically harmed, either by an outside assailant or by the conditions of just... being human - alarm bells. just pure panic. though he wouldn't show it at first - Simon's not the kind of person to panic openly, not visibly, not at the first instance - but it would be there, somewhere in the corners of his eyes, springing into action and shielding you away from whatever had caused it without a second though. some asshole tussling with you? his hand is already forming a fist before he can even think about it. something wrong with you, internally? already drafting up the perfect position, sliding his arms around you effortlessly, keeping you level and preventing even more hurt. being affected by something else - the weather, the temperature, something falling on you or going awry around you? pulling you into him, or behind him. whichever is safest at the moment
> later, he'll panic. later, when you're asleep, or resting, in another room, where you can't see him - or, if you aren't aware enough to be coherent, to focus on him - he's in the room with you, gripping your hand, breathing heavily against it as he peppers kisses across the expanse of your knuckles. he won't blame himself, not necessarily, but he'll be more concerned about how much he's able to do for you in the moment. he's not the most experienced guy, per se, but he has seen and lived through his fair share of brutal, damaging, physically debilitating events, so- he's been in your shoes, and even if he hasn't, he can compare it to something he has been through. in that sense, he fears how accurate his own experiences might be, and whether or not he's missing anything
> he's not a doctor, so pills? which exactly you should take and when? little to no clue. but he will keep a strict schedule hanging over your head and will definetly act as your guard dog/nurse. can't get yourself upright to drink your meds? he's got you, one arm behind your back and slowly, carefully, shifting you into a sitting position before handing you a glass, alternatively putting it to your lips himself. something's not comfortable? tell him, he can switch it out. don't hold back. the rest of the time he spends near you - on the floor, lounging by the foot of your bed, or on a chair, watching you as you sleep. it's not creepy - that's so far out of his mind at the minute that he's not even think about the implications of it. he's extremely focused on keeping you safe right now, so he needs to watch you. what if your breath hitches wrong? what if you accidentally choke in your sleep? he has to be there. he has to be aware.
> you really had zero clue about how strong he is until you get hurt. maybe it's the instinct of humans who, when panicked, can ignore pain in order to perform extraordinary feats of strength - but even when he's calm, he's holding you up like you weight little to nothing. one arm around your entire torso, fingers palpable where they grip around your upper ribs, holding you up, the other keeping you both in balance, shifting this way and that by his side, as if you were one entity. sometimes, he'll get irritated by it, though he tries to be as patient as possible with you - and with a grunt, mumble something like 'You're too slow.' (when in reality, you're either hurting yourself even more by trying to walk, or you're just not efficient in it at all to the point where it's obvious you aren't ready for it yet), lugging you with one swift movement up into his arms, or piggybacking you, arms strewn across his shoulders. it's so surprising it nearly makes you jump out of your own skin - coupled with the expressness of the fact he did not warn you beforehand whatsoever. but he does carry you, and as much as you complain, he'll say nothing. not even give you an excuse of 'I'm alright.' or 'It wasn't a big deal.'. it's just something that you needed, so he made sure it got done. simple as that
> doesn't treat you like a burden at all. Simon will always, first and foremost, believe you are as strong as you say. you would never lie to him, would you? and even if you fail - hey, you just assumed wrong about your own strength. happens to the best of us. but he'll let you try to do things on your own, let you fail before he jumps in to help. because you are strong, and you are capable - so who is he to baby you? (plus, he'd rather not deal with the whining of 'I can do it myself.' until you yourself see that you really can't. you learn better when you're presented with concrete proof. he knows that - he's the same way.) but if the consequences of your actions are too severe to let you fail, like hurting yourself even more catastrophically, or prolonging your recovery period - he'll have a stern talking to with, or more so at you, beforehand. might even argue with you, honestly. but in the end, if you're really stubborn, he'll sigh and let you do as you please (he has a nasty habit of going 'Told you so.' after you do something particularly not thought through. he'll still help you up, but it can get annoying sometimes.)
> trusts nobody around you to help. everyone else who can even remotely enter that room is stared down like prey, eyes stormy and hardened, radiating precedented violence. only with his permission, implied or spoken, does anyone advance towards you - despite his eyes wavering this way and that, unfocused and swimming around his eyeballs with exhaustion, worried for you. the only one he'll let within touching distance of any part of your body is licensed professionals, doctors, medics and the like. even then, he'll be hesitant but realistic. Simon's not exactly possessive, so that's not the issue - the issue is the groans of pain, however needed, that you expel as whoever is examining you is making you produce. every single one makes him flinch, because - you're not meant to feel that. if he could, he'd feel all the pain for you, even if he knows it's impossible for you not to survive the examination. it's the principle of it - not that you can't, but that you shouldn't
> Simon's a drill sergeant and a parent all in one. if he can't control what meds you take, doesn't know anything about the compounds of it all - the least he can do is make sure you follow your set times to take them. you're muttering how you don't want to, whining and being difficult? pft, do you think he cares? you're taking those pills. you're getting your bandages replaced. shhh, shhh, he knows it hurts, but at least it's him, right? you know it's him. he wouldn't do it if it wasn't necessary. you'll get an infection otherwise, and trust him- those are even worse. just be patient. you don't even have to do anything. you're whining about how it all hurts, how you just want it to stop? he knows. he'll huff beside you, obviously troubled by your whining (in such a way that it hurts him too, that it frustrates him he can't magically somehow make it better), but he'll be firm. be quiet, you're only tiring yourself out more. you can cry, it's okay, he'll hold your hand through it, but be realistic - it'll pass soon, star. the calmer you are, the more you keep still, the worst of it will pass by faster.
> if you're kneading at his hand in yours, urging him to come and cuddle you into stillness? maybe even ask for a kiss? he'll be super reluctant - especially if you have a contagious disease. no, he's not doing it. no, you can't make him. no, pipe down. later, he promises, later, starlight. for now a hand will have to do. he'll smooth out your hair out of your face for you, apply a fresh towel, massage the spots that hurt - but he can't be that close to you. he can't. (and then, when you're asleep, he'll sneak a closer touch. something like leaning onto your sleeping body with his torso or head, pressing into you the lightest amount - or occupying the side of your bed where you're not currently stationed. he misses it too. he misses being able to hold you, but he has to be strong with you - who knows what you'll squeeze out of him, what border you'll crumble, what more you could ask for. what if he hurts you even more while trying to appease you? he has such a tendency to be accidentally rough with you - but here, where you don't move, don't whine, he can trace the curves of your face, he can glide his palms across the healthy, unaffected parts of your body. he can indulge. just a little. just so he doesn't go completely desperate and as whiny as you're being.)
> again, he's not a doctor. but he's had enough wounds to know exactly what can hurt and where. it's comforting, knowing someone knows the pain and can relate to it, immediately adjusting you as they go - preparing the bed to accomodate your specific needs, asking extra questions that aren't just the general 'Are you doing okay?' and 'Are you comfortable?' but ones actually peppered with advice. like, 'Do you need this specific pillow higher? It would help with this specific thing you have.' or, 'I heard somewhere that gentle exercise can help with this specific issue. D'you want us to try?', things like that
> if you're in need of any prosthetics or anything that could help you around - crutches, limb stabilizers, splints, slings, or any other additions, he either wants to know how they're made or even better - make them himself for you. sometimes he'll have no choice, but that's fine. he'd rather make them himself, anyways. it's not that he knows anything about how they're made, mind you - but he'll pick up a book or two to try and learn (and actually read a manual through and through this time, woah.). optionally, he'll probably try and check it with a medical professional, to see if it's correctly made - if one is available. but if the medic in question doesn't allow him to risk it, he'd like to see how it's made. for future reference, and you know, to make sure it doesn't hurt you in any way. he'd rather you didn't have a hard time adjusting to it, and that it's as comfortable as possible. Simon, of all people, knows how hard it is to adjust to prosthetics. (but a small part of him, especially if you lose an arm like he did, is kind of happy it's your arm. not that you lost your limb, of course, he'd never be happy about that - but this way, you're the same. and he can help, actively, physically, help. guide you into it, show you all the tricks and tips. and hey, if you lose your right arm or something - now you're like a puzzle. you have a set of working limbs between the two of you! or so he likes to joke.)
> he'll be goofier while you're recovering. as in, he'll be so worn down with worrying about you that he'll slip up more regularly, ruining his somewhat gruff, broody persona. Simon's never been the type to be constantly glum and all, but - well, life kind of reshapes you into that, does it not? especially the kind of life he's had to lead. and while, yes, you do bring out the brighter side in him, there's still a significant amount of effort needed to get him to actually, really laugh. with you in recovery, him tired, and just relieved you're safe? he'll crack a joke or two. especially if he can joke how you're a pair now, both 'damaged goods'. (if you hate that kind of thing, he won't repeat it again. and he'll probably dismiss if/when you act worried about it, calling self-demeaning jokes 'inappropriate for the moment at hand'. but if he does manage to make you laugh, if even slightly - that's a positive in his book. laughter means none of your main organs have been damaged beyond repair, and that - that's enough.)
> if you need to relearn how to walk, how to sit, or any fine motor functions akin to that? if your muscles atrophy and you have to build them up again? he's right there building a regiment for you, holding your hand through it all. he's not the best at anatomy, but he's worked out a lot in his prison days, and he knows what works for what muscle, if even vaguely. and with permission from your doctor, and some advice from others, alongside a good meal plan adjusted by, optimally, a nutritionist, but most likely given also by your doctor, he'll make sure you follow it. with simple, small, baby steps - helping you along, acting like a mobile crutch you can always lean on, and testing your limits, but also the kind of guy who sits at the table with you until your plate is scraped clean. almost so much he barely needs to wash it at all. those are your rations, doctor approved and prescribed. don't be difficult, dear.
> do not, for the love of everything you hold dear, let this man make you tea. he's okay at cooking, not fantastic, but he makes do - but steeping tea? please. don't. just don't. it'll always be oversteeped, or understeeped, or so bitter you can barely get some flavor in. it's mostly because he's used to scraps, so tea is an item of luxury - after all, it's main component is water. plus, things like honey, lemon, sugar? no. doesn't know how to measure them at all, since their own sweetners were usually of a different structure that made them way less sweet than your regular sugar or honey. so, oversweetened, tart tea that leaves a bitter film across your tongue even when you gulp it down. at that point, if you're feeling well enough, let him bring you the ingredients and steep it yourself. either that or stick to soup. he can make soup, at least
> you feel bad that maybe this injury is somehow your fault, or that Simon has to take care of you? immediately clamping his hand over your mouth. not. even. a. word. he knows the guilt, knows the horrible feeling that makes you sink even further into your own pillows, but... even if it is your fault (though it mostly isn't), what's done is done. he's not going to give up on you just because you're clumsy, or you think you're a nuisance. of course you're not. (if anything, this gives him an excuse to dote on you, which he loves to do anyhow. so, really, Simon should be thanking you. but he's not going to- I mean, you are hurt. that hurts him too. it's a tough choice.) but if you go overboard and apologise even after he's said it's okay? he is not immune to getting annoyed with you. you will be lightly slapped in the face with a wet towel, or silenced with one if you keep going. he already said it's okay, didn't he? you don't need to continue, trust him. even if he knows the feeling
> need a bath? he's got you. he... doesn't really know what kind of salts or bath soaps work best - he's never really had a proper bath before, either. but if your doctor recommends something? or, better yet, if either one of your coworkers mention something in passing like, 'Oh, my grandmother always used to vouch for eucalyptus/epsom salt baths.' - he's getting the closest thing, even going as far as to ask the person for confirmation. that's what they meant, right? (which is out of character, even for Simon, who's still pretty nervous around new people and would never approach them first. and if they're your coworkers - he's probably either met them briefly or not at all. progress?) he's lowering you gently into it, making sure the water's just right. uh, you don't mind if he undresses you, right? he'll try not to look if you don't want him to, but uh- you do, kind of, need to be... changed, so- it's fine. he'll figure it out. somehow. if you need your bandages changed, he takes it as an opportunity to do so - and if you have any stitches, he's carefully applying some sort of protection over them, like waterproof bandages or cling film. wouldn't want them to get all wet, would we? don't need them opening up or anything
> when you are feeling better, all wired up and buzzing, impatient to get out of bed even when your own body isn't, he's there to shush you into compliance. didn't you say you wanted to cuddle? well, you're well enough for you to do so! what do you mean, you don't want to anymore? are you getting tired of him? c'mon, just- lay down- just- hn- theeeere you go. nice and cozy and all tucked in. (meanwhile, he has you wrapped up like a caterpillar in its cocoon. you are not getting out of those blankets. don't even try, especially if you're weakened by your illness. you'll just tire yourself out.)
> Simon's the kind of person to keep you in bed even well after your recovery. how can he be sure you're okay? sure, you're capable, and strong, and you're doing amazing now - but you were like that, partially, even during your recovery. he just wants you to be safe. your muscles are still in a state of not being all the way there yet, so just - take it slow, huh? for him? he's still jumpy whenever you accidentally drop something or if you slip in any way, even if you catch yourself - patting you down with his hands, making sure you didn't hurt yourself. makes sure to regularly check you up with your doctor, too, even if he has to drag you to the appointments. hey, he's not happy about it, either - but anything for your health, anything. so, yeah, you're going. end of discussion. at least until your doctor gives you the green light so you don't have to anymore
> if you have any scars, either from stitches or just nicks, he makes sure to try and get you any balms he can to treat them as soon as possible, to make them stop feeling so tender, inquiring about newer ones and alternative options whenever he can. it's not so much as 'they need to be gone' kind of reason, but more so because whenever he does see them, they just seem... vulnerable, to him. like softer skin that's easily pierced, and it just... makes him a bit nervous. just a bit! (otherwise, when you're alone... he's also kind of happy you have them. as in, he's lived through them with you, and you made it out okay. it's your own little victory! and he's so proud of you for being so brave. he always makes sure to give them a bit of extra attention whenever he's kissing you, or marking a path across your body, wherever they may lie.)
Darkiplier
> we all know Dark has some sort of chronic illness - after all, the body they ended up possessing did die by being shot and thrown off a walkway. this presents Dark with a numerous amount of consequences - namely, a broken, reassembled body that, however reassembled it is, still isn't positioned correctly in some cases. who can blame them? they were just being formed at the time, too, and anatomy classes weren't an everyday thing for them, nor did Damien nor Celine have any prior knowledge in the subject
> for that reason, Dark often experiences aches - halted steps, misaligned spinal discs, lagging behind, sore joints, sensitivity to temperature - oh, and that pretty crooked neck. it's usually not that noticeable, seeing as they do glitch around sometimes, usually almost seemingly vibrating in place with an intense aura, so twitching this way and that isn't particularly seen as anything out of the ordinary. they're unfortunately so used to it that, while, it does hurt, they've grown semi-numb to the sensations. there is another thing, though. since Damien and Celine are still sentient in their head, though they mix once they rise to the surface, and the Entity's mushed in there somewhere, too - it's not uncommon for Dark to have migraines, or become easily sensitive to light at times. it is exactly for this reason that their office is usually always cast in dim lighting, from multiple smaller sources instead of a big, overhead light. it's easier to dim the room by small increments that way.
> so, if you're someone who also has their own fair share of chronic aches, pains, or general nuisances involving an illness - trust that Dark knows what it's like. on a very base, painful level
>t hey'll usually check up on you, though not particularly out of concern - mainly just as a part of a checklist they keep for themselves, too. did you take your meds? how much energy do you think you have today? are you feeling faint? did you make sure you got your compressive socks/elastic bandages/glasses/cane/whatever other aids you need? do you need a refill on anything? they can order it online for you, don't be shy. you need something stronger, you think? or is what you're using okay for now?
> it's more like a business deal than anything else. that kind of comfortable conversation you've gotten used to, spoken in the same tone as when you're discussing the weather. after all, it is something that is meant to keep you going, so, there's not much they can worry about except the fact that you've done it. and if you haven't? you'll need to do it. right as they tell you. no excuses. if you don't, Dark knows you'll forget. (and if you do forget, they'll remember to remind you. no, don't swallow those - you already head your pills today, don't you remember?) once you've done it? good, now they can get to work. just as long as they know you're okay. and if you ask them about their own things? Dark basically recites it by command, as if giving a report. yes, the thermal neck support you got them that goes under their clothes is working great, thank you. it does look a bit weird, but- it's fine. anything for their health, really, you did so good with researching that for them. oh, and the pills - well, they don't really work with their anatomy, being - not human and all, but, the temperature based stuff is working amazing. thank you, darling.
> they usually don't really like to spoil you much (or well, more than they already do) - they're practical, and while a gift here and there surely is in order (given that they've literally told you they'd give you anything you want-), just to remind you how special you are, as soon as you mention medical equipment? even if it's just a slight upgrade from what you already have? done deal. not even a question. it's better? ordered. you need anything else, teacup? maybe a new deep heat cream or another batch of painkillers? no? alright, well, you'll tell them if you need any, won't you?
> massages are obligatory. both for them and for you. Dark just adores when you inevitably show up in their office, and suddenly there are hands on their back, massaging that sore spot that's been bothering them for hours. oh, yes- right- there. how are your hands, like, the best thing they've ever felt? are you magical or something? and they love to do it to you too- not necessarily sneaking up, but even just pressing down on spots that need to be compressed, or applying heat/cooling packs to your sore parts that feel so much better with them, when you're just sitting around their office as an added bonus to destressing you. their hands aren't rough, but they've seen some use - and it's that perfect medium between gentle and firm that makes you melt. (you genuinely are that one couple that everyone looks at weirdly because, what do you mean it's your anniversary and you got each other- medical equipment? and like, special-grade aids to help you- are those elastic bandages? why are you jumping up and down with joy for that?? but it's true. you do a lot of research to help each other out.)
> you need to take a day off? not to worry. Dark'll pick up your slack for you, even if it is for multiple days. you need to call someone to tell them why you're off? they'll do it for you. or, well, maybe it's best if you or them wrote an email. just so the whole, eldritch entity thing doesn't seep through the phone. yeah, that's probably for the best. but otherwise, if anyone tries to even imply that you're lazy, or that you're slacking off - immediately enraged. Dark's partner can do whatever the hell they want, and even if it is another ego saying so - no. they've lost their privileges of talking to you until they apologise, and you accept their apology. bastards. Dark is extremely sensitive about this sort of thing because, well, they've had to deal with it too- and you don't need someone telling you you're lazy when you yourself are already halfway thinking about it. it just presses it in further, just makes the wound deeper and more saturated with anguish. you don't need that. and even if you were slacking off - what is their business with it? you're. Dark's. partner. and if you're anything, then you're correct the majority of the time - even during the times that you're not. you're allowed to slack off when you need to. don't worry, they've got you. (and you have them, in return. this is especially where the power couple strategy comes in - you're both the guard dog and the patient being guarded, and you eagerly slip into each role. if you're both inapacitated? well, your bedroom is soundproofed for a reason. and the knocks can be ignored until you feel better.)
> the best part of both of your days, secretly - is when you get to complain to each other. it's such an old people thing, such a logically pointless, self-indulgent thing, but it makes you cackle, and them smirk in genuine amusement. complaining for the sake of complaining, considering neither of your states are ever meant to be something that can be resolved - is both extremely liberating and something that's just yours. you'll sit down, a cup of tea or coffee, or some other beverage of choice, out on the balcony at sunset, and just groan and whine about what you had to deal with during the day. maybe you'll come into their office in the middle of the night, or during the day - a small haven, a reprieve of the harsh sunlight outside. you'll basically launch yourself at their couch, no matter how many times Dark tells you you'll break the damn thing if you keep doing it, and rant over and over in circles about how annoying or painful the whole thing is, while they nod silently in the background. they know your pain, and while complaining doesn't help on a physical level? it heals something on a spiritual one, helps you know there's someone else out there for you, too. someone who understands. plus, as you say, it's good practice for whenever you inevitably develop even worse illnesses with age, or your conditions worsen. this is the least of Dark's problems, listening to you. (like they're not doing the same. suprisingly, Dark can be quite whiny when they really want to be - though it took some time before they actually felt comfortable with you hearing them be like that.)
> one thing Dark will never agree to, though - sunglasses. absolutely hates the things, even if they do make their sensitivity to light lessen, even if they help. it's not necessarily an eyesight issue, just- blocking out the light. they'd rather be stuck in a dark room for the entire day than be forced to wear those hideous things (hideous on them, they mean. if you prefer rocking sunglasses - hey, good for you! Dark would rather pass up that one, though. respectfully.). and even if you suggested them wearing photosensitive glasses for a while - well, they just hindered their sight, too annoying of an extra appendage, or so they say. (you have a sneaking suspicion they just accepted to appease you, and would throw them out anyways. well. at least it gives you an excuse to say 'Told you so.' in crucial moments, especially when Dark's teasing you about not taking a break when you really should.)
> sometimes, when Dark's willing enough, you have anatomy lessons, trying to correct the body they were given. you'll sit there like a mechanic, or a professor, a book in your lap as you're curled into the arm of the couch, them sitting on the other end with their back turned to you as you palm over the expanse of their back, studying the back muscles of the human in the book and comparing them to your own. ocassionally, they'll doubt your instructions, asking for the book themselves. then, slowly, with intense concentration, they'll try to correct their previous work - though it's hard, seeing as their form is basically solidified by now. (and seeing their muscles and bones shift underneath their own skin like worms burrowing underneath the earth is, frankly, unnerving. better avert your gaze.) with many hiccups, bumps and obstacles, you'd managed to correct some of them, but... not nearly enough to erase all the damage. that's okay, though- as long as Dark has someone to help them through their everyday struggles. in the meantime, well... you already have an idea for another gift they could try that could help.
brought to you unexpectedly by my sprained ankle.

Simon the Convict
> if you were ever in any way physically harmed, either by an outside assailant or by the conditions of just... being human - alarm bells. just pure panic. though he wouldn't show it at first - Simon's not the kind of person to panic openly, not visibly, not at the first instance - but it would be there, somewhere in the corners of his eyes, springing into action and shielding you away from whatever had caused it without a second though. some asshole tussling with you? his hand is already forming a fist before he can even think about it. something wrong with you, internally? already drafting up the perfect position, sliding his arms around you effortlessly, keeping you level and preventing even more hurt. being affected by something else - the weather, the temperature, something falling on you or going awry around you? pulling you into him, or behind him. whichever is safest at the moment
> later, he'll panic. later, when you're asleep, or resting, in another room, where you can't see him - or, if you aren't aware enough to be coherent, to focus on him - he's in the room with you, gripping your hand, breathing heavily against it as he peppers kisses across the expanse of your knuckles. he won't blame himself, not necessarily, but he'll be more concerned about how much he's able to do for you in the moment. he's not the most experienced guy, per se, but he has seen and lived through his fair share of brutal, damaging, physically debilitating events, so- he's been in your shoes, and even if he hasn't, he can compare it to something he has been through. in that sense, he fears how accurate his own experiences might be, and whether or not he's missing anything
> he's not a doctor, so pills? which exactly you should take and when? little to no clue. but he will keep a strict schedule hanging over your head and will definetly act as your guard dog/nurse. can't get yourself upright to drink your meds? he's got you, one arm behind your back and slowly, carefully, shifting you into a sitting position before handing you a glass, alternatively putting it to your lips himself. something's not comfortable? tell him, he can switch it out. don't hold back. the rest of the time he spends near you - on the floor, lounging by the foot of your bed, or on a chair, watching you as you sleep. it's not creepy - that's so far out of his mind at the minute that he's not even thinking about the implications of it. he's extremely focused on keeping you safe right now, so he needs to watch you. what if your breath hitches wrong? what if you accidentally choke in your sleep? he has to be there. he has to be aware.
> you really had zero clue about how strong he is until you get hurt. maybe it's the instinct of humans who, when panicked, can ignore pain in order to perform extraordinary feats of strength - but even when he's calm, he's holding you up like you weigh little to nothing. one arm around your entire torso, fingers palpable where they grip around your upper ribs, holding you up, the other keeping you both in balance, shifting this way and that by his side, as if you were one entity. sometimes, he'll get irritated by it, though he tries to be as patient as possible with you - and with a grunt, mumble something like 'You're too slow.' (when in reality, you're either hurting yourself even more by trying to walk, or you're just not efficient in it at all to the point where it's obvious you aren't ready for it yet), lugging you with one swift movement up into his arms, or piggybacking you, arms strewn across his shoulders. it's so surprising it nearly makes you jump out of your own skin - coupled with the expressness of the fact he did not warn you beforehand whatsoever. but he does carry you, and as much as you complain, he'll say nothing. not even give you an excuse of 'I'm alright.' or 'It wasn't a big deal.'. it's just something that you needed, so he made sure it got done. simple as that
> doesn't treat you like a burden at all.
(if you hate that kind of thing, he won't repeat it again. and he'll probably dismiss if/when you act worried about it, calling self-demeaning jokes 'inappropriate for the moment at hand'. but if he does manage to make you laugh, if even slightly - that's a positive in his book. laughter means none of your main organs have been damaged beyond repair, and that - that's enough.)
> if you need to relearn how to walk, how to sit, or any fine motor functions akin to that? if your muscles atrophy and you have to build them up again? he's right there building a regiment for you, holding your hand through it all. he's not the best at anatomy, but he's worked out a lot in his prison days, and he knows what works for what muscle, if even vaguely. and with permission from your doctor, and some advice from others, alongside a good meal plan adjusted by, optimally, a nutritionist, but most likely given also by your doctor, he'll make sure you follow it. with simple, small, baby steps - helping you along, acting like a mobile crutch you can always lean on, and testing your limits, but also the kind of guy who sits at the table with you until your plate is scraped clean. almost so much he barely needs to wash it at all. those are your rations, doctor approved and prescribed. don't be difficult, dear.
> do not, for the love of everything you hold dear, let this man make you tea. he's okay at cooking, not fantastic, but he makes do - but steeping tea? please. don't. just don't. it'll always be oversteeped, or understeeped, or so bitter you can barely get some flavor in. it's mostly because he's used to scraps, so tea is an item of luxury - after all, its main component is water. plus, things like honey, lemon, sugar? no. doesn't know how to measure them at all, since their own sweetners were usually of a different structure that made them way less sweet than your regular sugar or honey. so, oversweetened, tart tea that leaves a bitter film across your tongue even when you gulp it down. at that point, if you're feeling well enough, let him bring you the ingredients and steep it yourself. either that or stick to soup. he can make soup, at least
> you feel bad that maybe this injury is somehow your fault, or that Simon has to take care of you? immediately clamping his hand over your mouth. not. even. a. word. he knows the guilt, knows the horrible feeling that makes you sink even further into your own pillows, but... even if it is your fault (though it mostly isn't), what's done is done. he's not going to give up on you just because you're clumsy, or you think you're a nuisance. of course you're not. (if anything, this gives him an excuse to dote on you, which he loves to do anyhow. so, really, Simon should be thanking you. but he's not going to- I mean, you are hurt. that hurts him too. it's a tough choice.) but if you go overboard and apologise even after he's said it's okay? he is not immune to getting annoyed with you. you will be lightly slapped in the face with a wet towel, or silenced with one if you keep going. he already said it's okay, didn't he? you don't need to continue, trust him. even if he knows the feeling
> need a bath? he's got you. he... doesn't really know what kind of salts or bath soaps work best - he's never really had a proper bath before, either. but if your doctor recommends something? or, better yet, if either one of your coworkers mentions something in passing like, 'Oh, my grandmother always used to vouch for eucalyptus/epsom salt baths.' - he's getting the closest thing, even going as far as to ask the person for confirmation. that's what they meant, right?
Darkiplier
> we all know Dark has some sort of chronic illness - after all, the body they ended up possessing did die by being shot and thrown off a walkway. this presents Dark with a numerous amount of consequences - namely, a broken, reassembled body that, however reassembled it is, still isn't positioned correctly in some cases. who can blame them? they were just being formed at the time, too, and anatomy classes weren't an everyday thing for them, nor did Damien nor Celine have any prior knowledge in the subject
> for that reason, Dark often experiences aches - halted steps, misaligned spinal discs, lagging behind, sore joints, sensitivity to temperature - oh, and that pretty crooked neck. it's usually not that noticeable, seeing as they do glitch around sometimes, usually almost seemingly vibrating in place with an intense aura, so twitching this way and that isn't particularly seen as anything out of the ordinary. they're unfortunately so used to it that, while, it does hurt, they've grown semi-numb to the sensations. there is another thing, though. since Damien and Celine are still sentient in their head, though they mix once they rise to the surface, and the Entity's mushed in there somewhere, too - it's not uncommon for Dark to have migraines, or become easily sensitive to light at times. it is exactly for this reason that their office is usually always cast in dim lighting, from multiple smaller sources instead of a big, overhead light. it's easier to dim the room by small increments that way.
> so, if you're someone who also has their own fair share of chronic aches, pains, or general nuisances involving an illness - trust that Dark knows what it's like. on a very base, painful level
> they'll usually check up on you, though not particularly out of concern - mainly just as a part of a checklist they keep for themselves, too. did you take your meds? how much energy do you think you have today? are you feeling faint? did you make sure you got your compressive socks/elastic bandages/glasses/cane/whatever other aids you need? do you need a refill on anything? they can order it online for you, don't be shy. you need something stronger, you think? or is what you're using okay for now?
> it's more like a business deal than anything else. that kind of comfortable conversation you've gotten used to, spoken in the same tone as when you're discussing the weather. after all, it is something that is meant to keep you going, so, there's not much they can worry about except the fact that you've done it. and if you haven't? you'll need to do it. right as they tell you. no excuses. if you don't, Dark knows you'll forget. (and if you do forget, they'll remember to remind you. no, don't swallow those - you already had your pills today, don't you remember?) once you've done it? good, now they can get to work. just as long as they know you're okay. and if you ask them about their own things? Dark basically recites it by command, as if giving a report. yes, the thermal neck support you got them that goes under their clothes is working great, thank you. it does look a bit weird, but- it's fine. anything for their health, really, you did so well with researching that for them. oh, and the pills - well, they don't really work with their anatomy, being - not human and all, but, the temperature based stuff is working amazing. thank you, darling.
> they usually don't really like to spoil you much (or well, more than they already do) - they're practical, and while a gift here and there surely is in order (given that they've literally told you they'd give you anything you want-), just to remind you how special you are, as soon as you mention medical equipment? even if it's just a slight upgrade from what you already have? done deal. not even a question. it's better? ordered. you need anything else, teacup? maybe a new deep heat cream or another batch of painkillers? no? alright, well, you'll tell them if you need any, won't you?
> massages are obligatory. both for them and for you. Dark just adores when you inevitably show up in their office, and suddenly there are hands on their back, massaging that sore spot that's been bothering them for hours. oh, yes- right- there. how are your hands, like, the best thing they've ever felt? are you magical or something? and they love to do it to you too- not necessarily sneaking up, but even just pressing down on spots that need to be compressed, or applying heat/cooling packs to your sore parts that feel so much better with them, when you're just sitting around their office, as an added bonus to destressing you. their hands aren't rough, but they've seen some use - and it's that perfect medium between gentle and firm that makes you melt.
Dark'll pick up your slack for you, even if it is for multiple days. you need to call someone to tell them why you're off? they'll do it for you. or, well, maybe it's best if you or them wrote an email. just so the whole, eldritch entity thing, doesn't seep through the phone. yeah, that's probably for the best. but otherwise, if anyone tries to even imply that you're lazy, or that you're slacking off - immediately enraged. (and you have them, in return. this is especially where the power couple strategy comes in - you're both the guard dog and the patient being guarded, and you eagerly slip into each role. if you're both inapacitated? well, your bedroom is soundproofed for a reason. and the knocks can be ignored until you feel better.)
> the best part of both of your days, secretly - is when you get to complain to each other. it's such an old people thing, such a logically pointless, self-indulgent thing, but it makes you cackle, and them smirk in genuine amusement. complaining for the sake of complaining, considering neither of your states are ever meant to be something that can be resolved - is both extremely liberating and something that's just yours. you'll sit down, a cup of tea or coffee, or some other beverage of choice, out on the balcony at sunset, and just groan and whine about what you had to deal with during the day. maybe you'll come into their office in the middle of the night, or during the day - a small haven, a reprieve from the harsh sunlight outside. you'll basically launch yourself at their couch, no matter how many times Dark tells you you'll break the damn thing if you keep doing it, and rant over and over in circles about how annoying or painful the whole thing is, while they nod silently in the background. they know your pain, and while complaining doesn't help on a physical level? it heals something on a spiritual one, helps you know there's someone else out there for you, too. someone who understands. plus, as you say, it's good practice for whenever you inevitably develop even worse illnesses with age, or your conditions worsen. this is the least of Dark's problems, listening to you.
BEAUTIFUL YUMMY stuff btw... Whiny Dark is probably my favorite thing in existence <3 lmao-
I was thinking... Like... Maybe I could- Maybe I could try writing some stuff? I'm kinda scared of sucking ass especially compared to you because your writing is delicious... But like... Idk! ^-^ it could be fun???? Hehe-
-> ✨️🫧
hehe, glad you like it. sensing there's a lot of Dark enjoyers on my blog, hm hm. wonder why that is... (either way I'm not complaining)
and you totally should! if you feel up to it. I know from personal experience that now that I have all of you I kind of, even, feel obligated to write? serving the community and all. but that's just my take on it, and I encourage you to write, if even just to try. you have no obligation to, of course, and I hope you don't feel pressured just because I'm all for it, but I'd love to read whatever you have to write.
we were all there once. sucking ass, that is, (though that is not a given. who knows, you could be so good at writing! like, a hidden prodigy or something, haha - not that that is an expectation I have, nor do you have to live up to it if you decide to write) and I feel like, as a writer or even an occasional dabbler, you're always kind of going to feel like that? like you can do better, do more, even if people tell you 'it's perfect' and that it's 'exactly what they've been asking for' - I didn't pop out into the world being able to write like I do, either. (and to some degree, I still feel like I can do better, even if you tell me otherwise. all par for the course.) but that's okay. you shouldn't let that stop you (thought that too, is easier to say than do). you don't have to be good, or great, or have people compliment your stuff or criticize your stuff to enjoy something. do it for the love of the game. do it for fun, as you said! regardless of what other people (real people or those you envision by yourself) feel about it. who cares! if you're having fun, that's all that matters. and if you're not? drop it whenever you feel like it. the world will keep spinning, trust me.
but if you're willing to try, again, I would just adore seeing what you'd come up with! please send it to me, if even through DMs if you don't feel like addressing it in an ask. plus, plus - if you want to take baby steps at it, as I said, my inbox is your playground. be my guest and write your heart out. I would love to comment on it directly if you do, and of course, if you want other people to - I'm sure my other anons and followers would love to give you some encouragement.
DAWG I WOULD NEVWR WANT THOSE UNIVERSES TO CROSS OVER 💥💥💔🥀I PINKY PROMISE
I was just curious is all /gen. But also HOLY SHIT ANOTHER ACTOR FAN??? IN THE WILD??? 🫵🫵🫵 NOT JUST SOMEONE WHO TOLERATES HIM?? I am so joyful I am so full of joy life is BEAUTIFUL!!! 🎉
heyo!
good, good. I love the bare minimum it is my favorite kind of minimum- hahahahah
yeah, dude!! life is woooorth livinggggg it's me and you and Actor against the world please request him please please please- (I am so happy to have someone who loves him too, hihi)
I was just wondering if you have plans for specifically any actor! Mark content? You’re like, one of the only people who write him well and I’ve read everything else 🥀
Hope you’re having a wonderful day!
hiii!
um, yes and no. sit with me, walk with me.
I have a love hate relationship with Actor. I know this will get on some people's nerves, but I am an active Actor apologist, so if you're aching for Actor content, you've come to the right person.
however.
there's this thing called, my platonic oneshot (it's the one under Darkiplier in my masterlist post, you can easily find it there). where... Actor is actively your father and you are his and Celine's child. (everyone clap for childhood trauma, go on, go on.) so here I sit every time whenever someone asks me for Actor-related things, arms crossed as I huff at my laptop because, the truth is, I see both sides of the coin, platonic and romantic.
I do do Actor content, but we have to agree not to cross over those universes, okay? pinky promise me, anon. I have to eventually make up a name for that universe, so if anyone has any suggestions, do let me know, because hell if I know at this point. all you have to know is, if I do churn out more of that oneshot, the platonic one, (which I do intend to make a part two to, don't fret - even as it slips away from me more and more, too intimidated by the asks piling up in my inbox despite the fact that I am the active creator of that 'problem', though I barely consider it one unless I want to write anything else but the asks in the heat of the moment), the Reader in that- the child!Reader - is not, by any means, related to the one I write for Actor's romantic works, oneshots or headcannons.
alright, now that we got that of the way-
yes. yes I do write for Actor. he is one of my all-time favorites, so please, if you have any suggestions, send them my way. (granted, it'll take a while before I can get to you, and by that I mean weeks to months, if I am to be completely honest with you. I have around nine drafts right now in my inbox, and while I do skip around to whatever inspires me in the moment in the effort to try and produce the most quality content rather than focusing on quantity, even if you really intrigue enough to make me go for yours first (I know I sound self-important here, I swear I'm not that arrogant), it will still take at least a week and a half before I can get to anything because university is being disgusting right now. if you can wait that long, go right ahead. either way, I'd love to recieve anything you have to offer, even if it is just posting your own ideas through me, if that makes you more comfortable.)
in terms of whether or not I myself have something planned for Actor specifically - besides the platonic oneshot, he will be included in all of the headcannons that I have left to write for all of the egos - that is, there's a yandere one someone asked for, and one that asks for little quirks and random things I personally associate with the egos. besides that, I don't think I have anything else? oh, and he's meant to get romantic headcannons for him alone, but that's way away in the future, sorry to say. (I'm legitimately just trying to catch up with asks right now, haha. but feel free to request for me to pick up my pace on those headcannons or whatever you have in mind - if I get an ask about it, I usually make it a priority over my regular schedule.) other than that, not anything else. I'm open to suggestions, though!
sorry for rambling a bit, haha. I hope you have a good day, too! thank you for asking!
(and thank you for the compliment. me?? writing Actor well?? no way you think that! I'm so honored! but thank you, really.)

I legit laughed at "ooooorder up" xddd thank you for indulging me <3
Why is the couch so dusty xdd
Knowing you can come to people but not wanting to bother them is so real, ughh
You use such creative metaphors. It makes anything you write such a treat to read!
Dark who's soft only for you ehehehe *rubs hands like a fly*
Feeling more tired when someone else says/notices you're tired is unfortunately very relatable. You thought you were holding yourself up before, but you're clearly not so you're like. Ah, well. I thought I was hiding it better—
The hands that feel like they have won wars are giving us soft backrubs ughhhh I caaaaan't (like I said before, I feel all awwww even at the fluff, how will I survive the smut huh, Bite? Will I????)
Reader asking if they'll be able to keep count right after I had to talk to myself outloud where exactly the clones are standing now xdddd We are one and the same, reader xddd
DARK IS THE ONE SINGING THE LULLABY??? (Excuse me, I had to literally scream into my hands)
"There you are, lovely. There you are" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (I am mush. I have turned into mush.)
HEY. DAMIEN imagery??? How dare you do this to meee? As soon as I saw "flower" I was like Haha nice. Then you did THE CABIN!!!! HUH??? HOW DARE YOU????
I just realised the hypnosis thing was Dark being tired, and this is us being tired. Everyone gets taken care of eventually, woo!
I have turned into mush yet again at Dark possibly applying the chapstick just because we asked. Aaaaaa— (because why would I be mush about kissing. Nooo, I gotta be mush about the random stuff—)
"A natural reaction" the scream I scrumpt
"You'd be offended if you could think at all" cackled
At first, I was like, aww offerings of food. Then, there were the descriptions of their gaze. Are they thinking another hunger xdddd
"You have me. Always," it's a classic trope, but I LOVE it
Dark being proud of us asking for him. awwwwww
"Mexican standoff" xddddddd
MISSED MY PRETTY FACE YEES. YES, ELITE REFERENCE. YES I DID HDJDKEKEKE
Soft Dark, but clearly not all of him—
Oh, we're getting carried, wheeee
I had to put my phone down a bit when I realised. There's total darkness. Ugh, love it. So you don't know where anything is coming from, especially touch. Aaaa Dark so caring aaaa
BARE chest? As in, we finally managed to get rid of that stupid shirt????? Success????
Awww "dearest". "MY ONLY ONE" Dark is such a romantic
"Whose hands grope at you like they're jealous of you for having such a body" I chuckled xdd But just the picture of opening your eyes and for a moment seeing Dark in the middle of the clones must have looked very aesthetic. If only I could draw people... I wanna see it
Poor us (though now I'm thinking since Dark can sense our emotions so immediately that he'd know to stop, then there's a very high possibility that he knew even before we asked for him what we were feeling but he just needed to hear it as well. Like I said, consent king)
"you can almost feel the phantom hands over you again in all their vigor before they spook and scare themselves off of you." Hilarious. I'm just imagining Dark being like 'Guys, no calm down. I know we're all horny but they asked for slow. Get back in your cages—'
Oh, Dark, so honey, so tender, trying his best to be soft when it's new for both of us. Love him
I love the juxtaposition in "a high-pitched groan"
'Dark swearing Dark swearing Dark swearing!' We all cheer in unison
We're back, wooo!
"Did they just whine too" I mean, I know I specifically asked for that, but that jumpscared even me. I'm getting my treat—
Oh, a PROPER whine deserving of its own paragraph? I gotta take a while to calm down. Oh, this is such a treat. "the voice of them losing all mirroring effects and sounding almost human in their struggle." Oh, this is BEAUTIFUL. SO beautiful.
Yeah, we're back to ourself and have the space to reassure him. Good, good, all things as they should be
The ending just made me feel all warm and fuzzy and just so cutes and smiley and just kdhfjrkekdk. You wrote it so much more tender and feeling than I imagined, and it's all just precious!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
"Why, want another round?" Uhuh sure, say that again, Mr Whiny over here, sure act like nothing happened to you xdd Don't you have some self-discoveries to make, hm?
All the kisses on the forehead for you Bite, thank you for this wonderful treat!! I know I'll be rereading this one in the very near future. Feeling like a starstruck lover (of Dark, my beautiful wife! I can only think of overly affectionate borderline nonsensical petnames in my native language because of him in this, this is your fault xd)
~ (A very happy) Sea urchin
you don't need to thank me for indulging you, it's my pleasure, haha <3
(the couch is dusty because they're oooooolllddd. welcome back to Twilight where you get engaged to a 100+ year old man who's committed crimes you can't even begin to imagine- also imagine cleaning all that on a daily basis when you've got a house full of people who are either traumatized, trying to come to grips with reality, or in the throes of yearning for an unknowable, maybe-not-even-existant Reader. we've got bigger issues, people, the couch can wait hahahahah)
I added the "will I be able to keep count" specifically for you. I still remember when I sat down and had to remagine the whole hypno shot in my head and write it down for you (not an issue at all, it just stuck with me as something I potentially need to work on) so I was like, "nono, this time either I make the Reader confused too, or I'm precise about what exactly is happening" and I ended up going with both, haha. plus, when you're that tired, trust you're not keeping count. you have no idea where your ass and where your head is at. trust.
YES, THE DAMIEN IMAGERY. (cackles evilly) suffer at my hands. if I have to cry over Damien every time I see him, so will you /affectionate
yeah yeah, the food thing - I was a bit like, should I? would you want me to get right to the issue at hand or skirt around it a bit? and then like, it's more realistic this way. you thought you were horny? maybe you just need a sandwich. human bodies don't make sense and Dark knows that hahahahah
"Soft Dark, but clearly not all of him—" I unironically spit out my coffee at my monitor and had to clean it up so fast before something broke- the monitor is fine. just... how dare you make me laugh this hard. not fair.
the shirt lives no longer as soon as you get in bed, yes. hate their clothes, hate that stupid shirt, make them naked all the time, I say (but also- can you imagine Dark in oversized, comfortable clothes, or like a tight-fitting shirt, one of those muscle shirts made from that material that makes them super breathable and easily airdrying? the athletic ones that are smooth to the touch and show off every bump, every rise and fall- and oh, then, like, loose shirts that make them look so cozy, so homely, and when they swish juuuust the right way, they show off all that- calm down, Bite. (clutching my imaginary pearls at myself, fanning myself in the process) but yes, rejoice, the shirt is dead.
lowkey I was thinking of drawing, if even a crude sketch, some of the scenes just so there's no confusion but I don't knoooooow. I have a lot of asks. maybe later, maybe. if you ask me nicely, hahahahah
oh, oh, the whole "can they sense our emotions" - I don't know how detailed you read it (obviously detailed enough to give this review, what am I talking about, lol) but that's never confirmed. yes, I'm pulling out the youtuber apology of 'guuuuuyss, it was taken out of coooontext' - no, but the Reader is obviously very disoriented in this one so. nothing is for certain, it's just a guessing game, I didn't want to say anything for sure because I want to give off the illusion that even we don't know their full strength, and they want it to stay that way. y'know, to protect you and all (though I'm annoyed at myself for writing it like that too, despite it making sense, lmao). (unreliable narrator aleeeeerrrttt)
the clone thing - yeah, Dark is literally like, 'buzz off' but I headcannon that while Dark themself is an amalgamation of Celine, Damien, and the Entity, the clones themselves are like fractures in a mirror, like- one clone is made entirely to be mostly, up to 90% I'd say, influenced by Damien, one more by Celine, one more by the Entity, in an endless loop and multiplication system, so they can coexist all at once. (hence the colors and the blueish tint to the one Reader can see) but yeah, it is literally Dark having a mental battle, swatting away Damien like 'be fucking patient, please-' or Celine like 'slow, are you dense??? sloooow!'. it is very funny.
I wrote it as more tender, yes, that's why I have the tag 'I don't know if this is uncharacteristic of Dark to do' because you know they're all gloom, terror, I'm going to eat you, get back over here, (throwing tomatoes) here's a kink, and another one, and another one, and another one- which, granted, I also enjoy, I'm not trying to harp on anyone's style here nor be hypocritical, but it did make me unsure of whether or not it was the right decision to make. glad it worked out, though!
hahahahah, I'm soooo happy you liked ittttt (all the compliments and that rereading comment made me giggle and blush so hard, I'm overjoyed) and I hope you'll like my next works too. I don't know when anything's coming out, as you know - university has me in a chokehold, the exams are insane, but I know you said you're pretty patient. hopefully this'll hold you off, you and other Dark enjoyers, for a little while.
(and what do you mean your wife? our wife. our communal housewife, Darkiplier, on the official Bite blog, hahahahah)
thank you for your review and your request! very much appreciated, as it always is :]
