لترفع عن ساقها ثَوْبَها غيمةً غيمةً وانتظرها ,

And take her to a window to see a moon drowning in milk, wait for her

وخُذْها إلى شرفة لترى قمراً غارقاً في الحليبِ انتظرها ,

And give her water, before the wine, without looking at the pair of partridges sleeping on her chest, and wait for her,

وقدِّمْ لها الماءَ , قبل النبيذِ , ولا تتطلَّعْ إلى تَوأَمَيْ حَجَلٍ نائمين على صدرها وانتظرها’

And touch patiently her hand when she puts the glass on the marble, as if you're picking dew off it, and wait for her

ومُسَّ على مَهَل يَدَها عندما تَضَعُ الكأسَ فوق الرخامِ كأنَّكَ تحملُ عنها الندى وانتظرها ,

Talk to her like a flute does to a scared violin string, as if you two are witnessing what tomorrow is preparing for you, and wait for her and brighten her night ring by ring,

تحدَّثْ إليها كما يتحدَّثُ نايٌ إلى وَتَرٍ خائفٍ في الكمانِ كأنكما شاهدانِ على ما يُعِدُّ غَدٌ لكما وانتظرها ولَمِّع لها لَيْلَها خاتماً خاتماً

And wait for her till the night tells you "There is only you two left in existence" then take, gently, to your desired death, and wait for her.

وانتظرها إلى أَن يقولَ لَكَ الليلُ : لم يَبْقَ غير كُما في الوجودِ فخُذْها , بِرِفْقٍ إلى موتك المُشْتَهى وانتظرها !...

بسبعِ وسائدَ مَحْشُوَّةٍ بالسحابِ الخفيفِ اُنتظرها

With womanly incense filling the place, wait for her

بنار البَخُور النسائيِّ ملءَ المكانِ اُنتظرها

With manly sandalwood scent about the backs of horses, wait for her

برائحة الصَنْدَلِ الذَكَريَّةِ حول ظُهُور الخيولِ اُنتظرها ,

And don't lose patience, if she comes late, wait for her

ولا تتعجَّلْ , فإن أقبلَتْ بعد موعدها فانتظرها,

And if she comes too early, wait for her

وإن أقبلتْ قبل موعدها فانتظرها ,

Don't scare the birds sat on her braids, and wait for her

ولا تُجْفِل الطيرَ فوق جدائلها وانتظرها ,

So she can sit comfortably, like a garden in its beauty's pinnacle, and wait for her

لتجلس مرتاحةً كالحديقة في أَوْج زِينَتها وانتظرها ,

So she can breathe in this air, stranger to her heart, and wait for her

لكي تتنفَّسَ هذا الهواء الغريبَ على قلبها وانتظرها ,

بكأس الشراب المرصَّع باللازوردِ اُنتظرها ,

On a pond, around evening, near cologne flowers, wait for her

على بركة الماء حول المساء وزَهْر الكُولُونيا اُنتظرها ,

With the patience of a horse readied for mountain slopes, wait for her

بصبر الحصان المُعَدّ لمُنْحَدرات الجبالِ اُنتظرها ,

With the taste of splendid prince charming, wait for her

بذَوْقِ الأمير الرفيع البديع اُنتظرها

أحبيني..

Like an earthquake… like an unexpected death…

كزلزال .. كموت غير منتظر..

And let your breasts, kneaded

وخلي نهدك المعجون..

With sulfur and sparks,

بالكبريت والشرر..

Attack me, like a dangerous starving wolf,

يهاجمني .. كذئب جائع خطر

Mauling me and hitting me

وينهشني .. ويضربني ..

Like the rain does to island cliffs

كما الأمطار تضرب ساحل الجزر..

I am a man without a destiny

أنا رجل بلا قدر

So be one for me

فكوني .. أنت لي قدري
