Project: Containment - A few pictures of the bees in their hive.
Project: Containment - My experiment with a balloon, string and slip had dried and had the desired effect of being very sturdy. I popped the balloon leaving quite a nice structure.
I have sprayed it Gold in colour and later added a few delicate leaves and branches inside.
Project: Containment- experimenting with string coated in slip and wrapped around a balloon. I’m hoping it will dry hard and hold firm in shape ..
Project: Containment- flowers contain pollen .. an experimental afternoon .. playing with clay and doodling ..flowers ! Once dried I will paint to match.

Nom 😋 nom nom ...
Project: Containment - using a bird cage I painted some left over salt and pepper bird sets I had yellow and threaded a couple to hang, leaving two to sit on the floor of the cage. Trapped, contained canary’s.
Project: Containment - I made a container for my beehive using an old shoe box. I painted it brown and cut a square on the front of it.
Biomimicry: We were looking at this a couple of weeks ago and whilst researching how this is used with ceramics I found it’s mainly from a design perspective. Replicating coral reefs for example .. so today I had a little play making a few samples of my own.
Project Containment: Experimenting with the concept contain, and thinking what I had to hand at home, I took another balloon.. blew it up, not too big. I then wrapped ribbon around it .. this way and that. Coated it with pva glue and then wrapped in cling film. What happened quite quickly was that the balloon began to shrink. Leaving the shell of ribbon and clingfilm around it. I had no idea what would happen but it’s pretty.

Project Containment: Not really sure where I’m going with this project and having done my beehive (which I might encase in some way) I started thinking about balloons and putting something inside and then covering in clay. I brought this up in class and general feeling was the clay would be too heavy and it wouldn’t work. Me being stubborn and unable to let ideas go .. decided to try anyway. I got a balloon, popped a ladybird🐞 inside, blew it up a little .. not too much. I then wrapped clay around it. As it was setting I made some holes in it ., carefully so not to pop the balloon. Being impatient I kept fiddling with it and it cracked .. annoyingly as I genuinely think had I left it, it would have been fine. It has set me on a path though to create more .. smaller orbs .. with holes with things inside.
New species of bat found, Niumbaha superba, and it’s adorable.
Oh wow! I’m glad people are as excited about animals as I am. Here’s some additional photos. Fun fact: this bat is so different from others that a new genus was created!
new bat!

BUMBLE BAT!!!
@curriebelle new bat dropped
Saw this today.. and love it.. it’s a cute bat with bumble bee 🐝 markings.
Today we were tasked with creating a Zine in 45 minutes. It could be about whatever we wanted it to be. I chose bumble bees. I had not heard of a zine and therefore never made one before.. was fun and a good way to get messages across.
Project: Containment - First thinking about the project I thought of beehives, they are contained and they contain honey. I set about rummaging through my recycling drawer .. as I knew I had a fairly sturdy cardboard roll from some foil I think. I couldn’t cut it so I had to saw it into smaller pieces. I then stuck the pieces on to a piece of corex board. I painted it yellow and orange and created some smaller bees to attach to it.
I forgot to say I first covered the circles for the hive in my airdry clay slip to give it some texture.
Super quick attempt at (I’m not sure what) inspired by Katie Spragg. I made my own airdry clay slip at home and coated some leaves I picked whilst out on a walk. It’s a quick and dirty attempt ! But one I shall return too ..as I think done properly results could be quite striking.

Project insects: Keeping ceramics at the forefront of my mind and exploring where else I could take the metamorphosis theme. I created little pots with the process of metamorphosis through them.
Keeping it simple by leaving the pots themselves white and painting the insects on top..
I had to reinforce the butterfly and the egg who both came off once dried.
Project insect: adding colours to my army of insects. Using acrylics. Will varnish but quite happy with outcome so far.
