Artificial grass is a synthetic surface of artificial fibers typically made from rubber-like synthetic materials to resemble natural grass. It is typically used in sports arenas where real grass is not usually or regularly used. But it is increasingly being used in residential and commercial applications and even on residential lawns. Nowadays, artificial grass is also widely used for the production of athletic surfaces and even for landscaping.

Real grass is actually made up of the plant called "Acorus calamus". This type of grass can be grasses like Bermuda, blue grass, dandelion, etc. In the US, there are over 5 million acres of this type of grasslands. When artificial grass is laid on this type of grasslands, the synthetic fiber blends with the grass to give a seamless surface that gives a very appealing appearance to the home owner or tenant.

Artificial grass is often manufactured with different levels of moisture content, which allows the water seepage into the turf, thus minimizing seepage of dirt, debris, and moisture from underneath the turf to the homeowner and tenant. As artificial turf dries out during the winter, the water absorbed by the turf evaporates and leaves the soil dry and clean once more.

When it comes to maintenance of the artificial turf, homeowners are advised to keep the turf clean and clear of dust, dirt, and grease. When the turf gets dirty, the use of a garden hose will help remove the dirt and debris and prevent the grass from molding. To prevent the growth of algae and fungus, a strong water solution can be used to wash off the grass after a shower.

The maintenance of artificial turf will ensure that the artificial grass does not become a haven for pests and other organisms that thrive in the natural grass environment. Pests such as mosquitoes, ants, and other flying insects are attracted to the synthetic turf and can create problems such as health and environmental issues, particularly for people and pets living close to the area.
