36. Massive Attack- Teardrop
Just a great song. Actually the first Massive Attack song I ever heard, once again on Much Music (the Wedge). Great trippy video too. Speaks to me as I now have a lil daughter too.
37. Broken Social Scene- 7/4 Shoreline
Speaking of family, my wife and I used to listen to a mash up of this song and R Kellyās Iām a Flirt. It was actually a fantastic mashup, and spoke to both of us. The Broken Social Scene song being the best part of it in my opinion.
38. The Cult- She Sells Sanctuary
Every list should have some Cult on it, and what better song than this? I think it flows well from the last track.
39. KMFDM- Megalomaniac
Cult followings, look no further than KMFDM. Out of all their songs, this song was the one I always came back to. Let alone it seemed to be used in alot of karate tournaments and expos I attended when I was younger, and competing.
40. MDFMK- Rabblerouser
Had to do a double shot on this one, as MDFMK is pretty much KMFDM, in personnel and sound. Bad record, but this song and Rockets were quite good.

Wanted to change the tone here, and the Used is one of my favourite bands. This song is ALWAYS the one I come back to this one. It holds alot of memories of friends (current and past).

Guilty pleasure song for me. Itās a bit sappy at times, and āLove-metallyā but damn is it catchy! I know they have better songs, but this one always sticks in my head.Ā

Surprised I could find a youtube video for this one. Grabbed this cd at a used cd shop (the Beat Goes On) in high school, and the band turned me on to a lot of great music. They didnāt really go anywhere, but the electronica metal fusion of the album is something I always come back to when I hear similar bands. It just resonated.

26. Bjork- Army of Me
I know Bjork just appeared on the list, but I had to put this song on here. There will definitely be other songs by her appearing here and there as I go on. Too good to pass up. Needed something more up tempo and angry after the last sad track on the list

Throwback song to the Bush administration. ....seemed relevant now :)
28. Electric 6 feat. Jack White- Danger, High Voltage
Like the previous song, this is a shout out to my buddy Mike. Great song though, and I put it hand in hand with the previous entry
Needed to bring some frights to this list. Great songs, but creepy fricking videos! Remembering the music I listened to in high school that was usually played on the Wedge (Much Music).
Couldnāt find the perfect time to include Interpol, and wasnāt even sure what song to include. I think this song does the trick though. Great music, great lyrics, great voice.
The sun was out, she imagined birds chirping though it was February and there were none in sight. Her alarm had not gone off yet, and she was up 10 minutes early, and pleasantly surprised she felt rested and ready to take on her day. Thatās when her children came in rubbing gunk from their eyes, demanding food. She lived for these moments. She lived for these kids. Their sleepy faces rubbed red by the back of their hands, jammies in disarray to match the tousled hair on their heads, stumbling around like they had a raucous night on the town, simply adorable and silly in their sleepy mumblings.
As she slips on her robe she puts her arms around them with a smile, āletās get you some breakfast, how does that sound?ā
The warmth of the mug in her hands, the feel of the rich bold coffee travelling through her body, tingling her back to the land of the living, the soft kiss of her husband leaving for work, the warm hugs (perhaps squeezed too hard by herself) from her children, all running through her head and making her smile on her commute to work. Still smiling to herself she walks to the crosswalk from her car on the way to her office. The job she loves, another day of making a difference, and she is ready willing and able.
Patience was always her strong suit. She didnāt mind waiting for the people in their morning rush through the road dividing the parking lot from her office building. She never understood why they didnāt pay attention to the crosswalk, but didnāt truthfully care. She knew she wouldnāt judge them, and just made sure she was safe and patient at the side, waiting for her opportunity, thinking of her family and the day ahead.
Smiling to herself, she sees the young gentleman to the right of her start to cross the road. There were cars coming, and she felt a momentary chill rush through her, thinking the worst. The man kept walking, confidently, no urgency, no rush, just casual strides.
Her sense of concern changed to general surprise, as the cars that were previously rushing down the laneway stopped at the walkway, like they were supposed to. The norm was they would keep going or speed up as the pedestrian rushed panicked and cursing. This was not the norm.
āYouāre brave!ā
The words shot from her mouth unbidden. Her surprise took over. She guessed she was somewhat impressed at this strangerās confidence. The way he somehow just knew he would be alright. Maybe it was misguided hubris, who knows, but she found it impressive and surprising in its own right.
She let go a chuckle after her statement, a product of these feelings.
āWhat was that?ā He turned to her then, no real expression, in the middle of the road, still no rush, still taking his steps with no urgency though the metal behemoths were there growling for them to move.
Without realizing, she was already in step with him. Just a few moments behind, in sync and smiling at him. He gave no real reason for her to do this. His face she saw now had a deeper sadness. Not sullen, just ā¦blank. No smile no frown, and again no urgency. No need to fill the void with the expected response. To smile or frown or lash out in anger. No emotions presented. But a sense that there was something deeper. It wasā¦.. intriguing.
āThat was brave!ā Smiling more broadly, letting him know she was being kind. Social norms fulfilled, she started back into her thoughts for the day.
āNot bravery,ā he said pausing āthat was pure apathyā
He kept walking away.
Her smile started to fade. What does that even mean? Ā Ā She knew not Ā everyone was a morning person like she was, Ā no harm done, but that Ā Ā response was so ā¦ā¦ Ā strange. What did he mean by that? Did he not care about Ā his life? The cars always come Ā Ā so fast through Ā the laneway, today was no different. What did that statement even mean, āthat Ā Ā was pure Ā apathy?ā
As if coming out of a fog, she started to see people walking past her in her periphery. Co-workers, friends, colleagues, rushing past her without a glance. It was then she realized how slow she was walking. The laneway far behind, almost halfway through the other adjoining lot to her office, on a sidewalk used by everyone in the building, she found she could not remember the points in between. The manās response had jarred her so much that she was lost in thought about it.
Odd
This never really happens.
Usually things are Ā Ā the way they Ā Ā are, Ā Ā everything there Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā for a reason, logic can be applied Ā Ā Ā to all. Something didnāt Ā Ā Ā make sense, she would shrug it off, or ask for clarification.
He was nowhere to be seen.
Surely he wasnāt walking that fast. Itās not like I blacked out or something. Ā The thoughts swirled dizzyingly. Shaking her head, she put it all out of mind, and walked on.
She didnāt even notice she had lost her smile.
The day went on like any other. She did her work. She put in her time. Nothing out of the ordinary. But it wasnāt though. This was not like any other day, because she couldnāt remember it. She came out of the fog slowly again with her sandwich in hand. She had made it the night before with her son, while getting the kidsā lunches together. A nightly ritual that made Thomas happy, and provided a nice reminder for her of Thomasā love for her when she ate it the next day. He loved to help her out, and possibly sneak extra treats into his lunch box. Heās only 8, so she let him. Anything for her children, anything to make them smile.
But she wasnāt smiling. This is odd. Normallyā¦.but this wasnāt normalā¦.. why didnāt he care? The drivers surely donāt. Ā Ā They rarely stop for anybody, lost in their own worlds. Driving to their Ā Ā own schedule. No regard for those Ā around them-
They were the same.
The drivers and the man were apathetic. It was the perfect word, the perfect description.
It wasnāt odd at all, it was ā¦.
āYou ok hon? Youāve been miles away all eveningā¦ā
The fog dissipated quickly this time, but was still disorienting. She had been miles away, but still right there the whole day. Why did this have such an impact on her.?
āSorry hon, just notā¦ myself todayā¦. Sorryā
āItās ok hon. Tough day? āā¦.. āWe can talk if you likeā¦.ā Ā ā¦ā¦ āPatricia?....ā
The fog wasnāt there, for once today she was fully in the room. Present, but not there. Push it aside, who cares? Thereās more to think about. The man, the drivers, the coworkers and colleagues and friendsā¦ They all just went onā¦. No regardā¦ no disdainā¦ lost in thoughtā¦ā¦ā¦apathetic.
Nothing mattered
Why does he look so sad? Am I acting strangely? ā¦ I didnāt answer his questionā¦.
āSorry babe, Iām justā¦. I think Iām going to call it a nightāā¦. āSo sorry hon. Can you look after the kids?ā
In the bed, thoughts of the man, the drivers, the people around her, the state of the world, the students, the commuters, the distractions, the internet trolls, the travesties, the floods, the disasters, the lawsuits, the killings, the famine, the greed. The clarity of it all emptied the room with itās stark blackness. Pitch as tar, there was nothing to see. There was nothing there. A few simple words, by a young stranger who didnāt care, snapped her into reality. Didnāt even matter if he was there. This is the way it is, whether he was or was not.

16. A Tribe Called Quest- We The People...
Had to include this. So pumped to see them on SNL, and they killed it. A welcome return for one of the best rap groups around. Great message too.
17. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Karen O- Immigrant Song
Great cover of the Zep classic, and I had to share it after the last song. It seemed fitting in title alone, as the current climate is not kind to immigrants. Karen Oās voice is haunting, and I think was the best choice to take on Robert Plantās. Helps to have a bit of NIN in the mix too.
18. A Perfect Circle- The Package
No link for this one, they keep getting pulled on youtube. Do yourself a favor though, listen to Thirteen Step. Amazing album, and this opening track is killer. I think it just flowed nicely from NIN.
19. Bjork- Itās Oh So Quiet

This song was destroyed in a shovelware iphone game commercial, so I thought everyone should hear the BEST version of the song. Sheās an odd one, but a true artist.
20. Twisted Sister- Come All Ye Faithful
Itās terrible, in a good way. No explanation needed, a lil metal x-mas is all. (My selection for this was posted on Dec 25th, it seemed fitting)

Great track though, and really shows how committed he was to this album. The breathing at the beginning of the live recorded track was just phenomenal.

11. Portishead- All Mine
After including Tricky in the mix, I would have been remiss to not include Portishead. My first foray into trip hop.
I really wish they could have been more prolific, but man that doesnāt really matter when every bit of music they have put out has been so incredible. This track is by far my favourite, and seemed to flow well from the Power Station track that preceded it.
I was itching to include some more Trent in the mix, and no better way than this song from the Downward Spiral. I consider this album to be one of, if not the, best. I suppose that is arguable, I just may not talk to you anymore if you do though.... just sayinā
13. Kendrick Lamar- I
Love this track, and needed something in here to pick the pace up and put some bounce in your step before I bring the tone back down. Got hooked on Kendrick Lamar, oddly enough, after playing Saints Row 4. Swimming Pools (Drank) was in the soundtrack which was customizable with a list of provided tracks as a kind of radio station in game. Whenever I picked through the songs, I always ended up listening to that song at least twice a session. When I headĀ āIā, it became my go-to Kendrick song, replacing swimming pools. Quite a feat.
14. Lana Del Rey- High by the Beach
A departure in tone, I know, but I really dig this song. Canāt keep the pace too fast for too long!!Ā
I know her SNL performance was terrible, it left a bad taste in my mouth as well, but sheās grown on me quite a bit. Weird video, weird song, but so chill and cool.
15. Deftones- Passenger
Deftones AND Maynard James Keenan? Yes, please. No more needs to be said here me thinks.Ā
**note, I will add embedded videos a little later on. The phone app doesnāt allow me to, and at work, it likely isnāt the best idea to add them now. When I have time at home (and my 4 month old is sleeping) then I will update :)**
Seriously, what is the point of bicycling in the winter? Sure there are health benefits associated with the activity, but those are negated in my mind sure to the fact that you are now dealing with wet, cold and generally unpleasant weather conditions, just asking to make you extremely ill. Beyond that, there's a huge danger aspect involved, and not in a cool Daredevil way. There are 1000s of tonnes of car you are either cycling in front of our beside that will have NO WAY of knowing when you are going to hit a bad rut or chunk of ice. Maybe there's debris hidden away in that icey slush, diverging waiting to kill your bike tires, and then possibly kill you. Throwing a child carrier, trailing dangerously behind the bike doesn't help either, especially since the majority of drivers will be distracted by your presumed idiocy having your toddler stayed behind your bike in ashtray terrible conditions, only to find you are just using the carrier to haul possessions and there is no child. You don't look cool, you don't impress the people passing you on the road. You are a danger to everyone around you, and are endangering yourself in multiple ways. You're showing everyone around you down, and potentially making them panic when they need to pass you as you are turtle slow. It's commendable you are trying to be good to the environment, but there are better and safer, and healthier alternatives for you. Car pool, it take the bus, safe your work out for a more appropriate time. There, I feel better now.

Sometimes Iām just in that kind of mellow mood. It also helps that I adore most things that Trent Reznor touches. If you havenāt already, check out this band.Ā

7. Bring Me The Horizon- Crucify Me
After the last track, I couldnāt help but think of Lightsā contribution to this track. BMTH has improved significantly in recent years, there are some very rough parts to this song, but I still dig it.
8. Tricky feat. PJ Harvey- Broken Homes
Wanted to slow things down a bit and no better choice than Tricky and PJ Harvey. I remember seeing this performance on David Letterman, and immediately bought the album the very next day. Angels with Dirty Faces is at times confusing, but at all times brilliant. This live version will always be what I think of when I think of this song, and it was a perfect performance.
Staic - X- Cold
This song is only on the playlist because it was particularly cold that day. Still, they were an amazing live band. RIP Wayne Static.
10. The Power Station- Get it On (Bang a Gong)
I never knew that Robert Palmer was a part of this band until I heard this on the radio on the way home from work. Duran Duran, Chic and Robert Palmer in one band. Awesome.Ā
RIP Robert Palmer as well..... man, Iām depressing!

1. Ghost-Square HammerĀ
I donāt care how cheese this song sounds at times, this track alone got me into Ghost. Do yourself a favor and look them up. Tongue in Cheek songs, yet they still have depth. Couldnāt get this song out of my head, so it was the perfect starting point for my mixtape.

2. Live- Lakiniās Juice
Natural progression from the last track, as it deals with religious themes, obedience and is catchy AF! In my mind, this is the best Live song they ever produced. Itās a shame the band didnāt continue onward, but will always remain my little slice of the 90ā²s.
3. Battles- Atlas
The previous track had me nostalgic for times long gone, and I got to thinking about a friend, former coworker and musician by the name of Paul McLeod. For those that knew him, he had a powerful voice, and was an incredible musician. Thinking about him made me think of when I introduced him to the above song by Battles. He loved it immediately, and the Jimmy Jazz bar that we were in turned into an impromptu after hours dance party, with Paul at center stage. I will never forget it, and had to include this song.
4. Jidenna- Long Live the Chief
Quite simply, this song naturally followed due to the killer beat. It certainly helped that Jidennaās musical performances in Luck Cage were the best of the season. Never heard of him before, but really digged the songs.
5. Poison the Well- Without You and One Other I Am Nothing
No linkage here. I sometimes just go off on tangents. This song just followed perfectly after the last track, as it felt like a nice place to stop and regroup. The way this song builds from a quiet beginning, to one of the best Poison the Well songs I have ever heard, it sends shivers. This song truly makes me feel something.
So, perhaps it was a good ending to the first five tracks after all.
