MC: Hey, I’m cold too.

She crept slowly toward the enemy stronghold. The only sound in the wintery wood is the squeaking crunch of the snow under her feet. She knows the enemy is nearby, but there doesn’t appear to be any sign of them. Hopefully, they’re off on missions of their own.

A flash of bright red fluttering in the cold wind catches her eye and Maggie smiles to herself. Hidden just behind the wall of a hastily built snow fort is the enemy flag. Maggie pauses behind a tree leaning against the rough bark and holds her breath, waiting to see if there’s anyone guarding the flag. After several long minutes, there’s no sigh of any movement.

Taking a deep breath of cold air, Maggie begins running toward the fort. She’s just rounding the corner of one squat snowy wall when someone grabs her from behind and lifts her off her feet. She shrieks and squirms until she hears Chris’s deep laugh in her ear.

“And just what do you think you’re doing?” he teases, shifting her until he’s holding her in his arms like a groom holding his bride. Maggie can’t help but giggle as his blue eyes sparkle at her mischievously.

“Oh, nothing, just out for a walk in the woods,” she says nonchalantly, throwing her arms around his neck.

“Really?”

“Mmhm. Say, could I borrow that flag for a few minutes?”

Chris laughs again, “Oh, I don’t think so.” He drops a quick kiss on the tip of her nose. “But I do have an offer for you.”

“Is that so, Mr. Powell? Do tell.”

“Trade sides. Join our team.”

“And just why would I do that?”

“Because I’ll make it well worth your while,” Chris murmurs huskily, his breath curling through the cold air in faint wisps.

Maggie watches as his pupils dilate and his eyes grow dark as his gaze drops to her mouth. Her breath hitches as Chris’s arms tighten around her. Her tongue darts out to wet her lips in anticipation and a scarce moment later Chris’s mouth is on hers in a slow, passionate kiss. He bites gently on her lower lip drawing a sighing moan from Maggie. Despite the freezing temperatures, a smoldering heat begins flowing through her body warming Maggie all the way down to her toes.  Chris’s kisses always have that affect on her, but after a winter break lasted far too long, the heady sensation of his lips on her is almost intoxicating. She feels herself growing drowsy on the rapturous feel of her boyfriend’s lips and body pressed against her.

With a sudden yelp, Chris breaks the kiss as he falls into the snow with Maggie still in his arms.

“Maggie! What the hell are you doing?” Zack yells before pelting Chris with another snowball.

“I’m all ready down, Zack!” Chris shouts laughingly ducking his head into Maggie’s shoulder and away from Zack’s barrage.

“I’m distracting the enemy! Grab the flag and go!” Maggie yells.

As Zack darts away with the flag, Chris raises his head and stares down at Maggie in disbelief.

“You used our love against me?” he pouts, sticking out his lower lip sadly. He looks ridiculously cute and Maggie can’t help but lean up to press a quick kiss to his lips.

“All’s fair in love and war, Chris,” she declares before rolling them over to straddle him in the snow. Chris’s smiles tenderly up at her and she knows he won’t hold that little ploy against her. For a moment, she just watches him, her very heart warmed by the sight of the pure love shining in his beautiful eyes. 

When she leans down and whispers breathily in his ear, Chris shudders beneath her and Maggie smirks. 

“Besides,” she says, “the sooner this game is over, the sooner we can go inside and you can warm me up properly.”

In response, Chris grips her neck gently and pulls Maggie into another searing kiss. His arms wrap around her body, pulling her flush with his hard chest.

[A little note: After talking with Amanda @mrswalkerwrites and conjuring up little headcanons inside my head I present to you this! And maybe more in the making. Mostly, I can’t seem to concentrate on much today other than this.]

[Summary: MC (Micah) has agreed to spend the rest of her summer with Chris and the Powell family in Cherryfield, Maine before the quarter of fall can begin.]

Nerves.

Nerves were going to be the death of her.

She hadn’t known where they had come from only they didn’t disappear. She tried falling back asleep when she had suddenly awoken far too early than the rest of her family, tried some light writing – she even tried checking on her brother but sadly he had still been asleep. The nerves remained, turned minutes into an hour and an hour into four - until the rest of her family had begun stirring.

They overwhelmed her, made her double check her suitcase at least four times, before she had flung herself on top of her bed and blew at her raven hair that continuously fell over her eyes.

But they were there, and they refused to go away.

She tried to think past it; she had met AJ before and knew little about Chris’ mother from the both of them. Although, Kyle had been at camp at the time when she visited last summer - she knew about him too. However, spending the rest of her summer with the Powell family had felt more like a dream than a reality, until she had woken up this morning.

When sunlight had finally poked through enough of her curtains, she had sprung into action, until her nerves finally reduced her to clutching her pillow and screaming inside of it as frustration grew.

This was Chris she was thinking about.

Her Chris.

She loved him and knew his family would open their arms to her. Except as she dragged the pillow away to stare annoyingly at her poka-dotted ceiling, she was suddenly afraid of seeing them. Thoughts that refused to be forgotten surfaced. What if they didn’t want her around? What if AJ suddenly decided she hated her? What if Kyle thought she wasn’t good enough for his brother?

Maggie fumbles with her keys as she steps up to the front door of the house. She’s balancing a bag full of Thai food cartons in each hand and bottle of wine under her arm. The kitchen is still a mess and so it’s takeout yet again. After finally managing to get the key into the door, she bumps it open with her hip. 

As she crosses the threshold, Maggie grins, remembering the way Chris carried her over it just days ago. She can still feel the way he’d swept her into his strong arms and smiled excitedly at her. She remembered the way she’d giggled and kissed him as they entered the house for the first time as a married couple. I guess they call it wedded bliss for a reason, she thinks to herself. The last couple weeks have been nothing short of magical. 

Distracted by memories of the wedding and honeymoon, Maggie stumbles to a stop and stares. 

There is a dog in their living room. Sitting in the middle of the room, medium sized with shaggy brown and white fur, panting happily, the dog stares back at her with dark brown eyes. 

They do not have a dog. 

“CHRIS!” she yells into the house. The dog jumps at the sound of her voice and runs over to her. 

“Whoa!” Maggie yelps as she raises the bags of food over her head, nearly dropping the wine. The dog gives her a friendly bark as it jumps up on its hind legs toward her. Maggie twists out of the way as Chris comes down the stairs in a rush. 

“No, no! Down, Rookie! Down!” 

The dog turns at Chris’s voice and runs over to him, tail wagging vigorously back and forth. It gives another excited bark as Chris grabs at it’s collar. He laughs as the dog jumps up and licks his face. 

“Uh…explanation, please?” Maggie asks her husband, eyes wide with disbelief.

“Yes. I can explain,” Chris says. “I was on my way home from Lowe’s and I saw the PetSmart next door was having an adoption event and I went in…just to look!” 

“Just to look?” Maggie asks as she maneuvers past him and the dog to take the food into the kitchen. “And what? The dog followed you home?” 

Chris laughs as he follows her, “Kinda! I tried to leave the store and he just kept coming after me and I looked into his eyes and it was like…kismet.”

“Oh, boy. Kismet…with a dog?” Maggie sets the bags and the bottle of wine on the counter before turning back to Chris and biting her lip at the sight of him. 

He’s dressed in jeans, a white t-shirt, and green-blue flannel. His clothes are splattered with spackling and paint from the repairs they’ve been doing in the upstairs bathroom. He looks so handsome and he just looks like…home. And she has to admit, it’s pretty adorable seeing the dog practically glued to his side.  

“Yep. It’s fate,” Chris says, giving her his most charming smile. “Like you and me. Like us finding this house. This is our dog. I just know it…in my gut.” 

Maggie rolls his eyes at him, “Oh lord. And you named him without me?”

“He needs a little training…so Rookie.” Chris says proudly. 

Squatting next to Rookie, Chris hugs the dog. “Come on, Mags…look at this little face. Can you really say no to this face?” Chris looks up at her and makes puppy-dog eyes.

“Your face or the dog’s?” she teases. 

“Either. Both. Whatever helps me keep the dog.”  

Maggie kneels in front of Rookie who immediately licks her cheek and jumps up to tackle her. Despite herself, Maggie laughs as she falls backwards. 

“Okay, okay! I guess puppy makes three! Welcome to the family, Rookie!”
