“MESS UP ONE MORE DAMN TIME, I DARE YOU BIG HEAD! DO IT.”
was all you heard, your eyes watered. Your vision blurred as you walked around Encino for your siblings.
Your tiny heart is breaking with each thought of how you feel like a failure. Soft sniffles left your nose, you walked as each sibling seemed to be too busy with your ‘problem’.
As another person said, ‘Sorry, hun, I’m busy.’ You rushed to your room. Buried in your own sorrows.
You already felt worthless with Joseph's constant pressure and nagging about your performance.
“Even [blank] can do better than you!” He’d yell as he pushes you back to practice your dancing and singing.
Each piercing stare seemed to be engraved in your mind, causing you to sometimes wet the bed at night because of nightmares.
A soft knock came across your door, looking up from your dark thoughts. There stood Marlon with a concerned look.
“Hey.. you okay sweetie?” He asked, walking over to you. Your doe eyes were red, your small Afro was more frizzled when you ran to your room.
“No!” You said, your tiny voice speaking out before you could comprehend your words. “I’m not good enough!” You screamed, your nose a little stuffy from the snot that’s about to come out.
Marlon sat on your bed that had stuffed animals, and he rubbed your back. He let you rant it out as you hiccup, hyperventilated, and then softly sniffled. He rubbed your eyes, making sure not to do it too roughly.
You were only six and you didn’t feel good enough. No child should go through these kinds of thoughts.
Marlon pulled you onto his lap, he still saw the baby sibling he held when you were first born. “Breathe, baby.” He said softly, rubbing your back while you nodded.
You soon calmed down, your lip poking out in a slight pout. Marlon felt his heart break even more.
He held you up as if you were still three years old, he went to your bathroom that’s apart of your bathroom, and grabbed some tissues.
You obeyed and blew your nose, your tear-stained face looking at Marlon with a bit of comfort.
After getting you settled down, he brought you water and lay by you while you watched TV in your room. It played He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Marlon knew you grew sleepy after crying, he knew because sometimes when you were just a baby, you would cry and immediately pass out.
And he wasn’t wrong when he turned to see you pass out holding a goofy stuffy from Disney World that Michael had taken for you.
Marlon gave you a small forehead kiss and left your room.
He’ll always be there for you.
