“ Great idea! Why don’t you go on ahead and get started I bet ReDestro will be proud of you! “

At first, Shinja had tried to develop a rapport. To explain as he worked so he could know what was going on with words and ready himself for any pain. But slowly, that had fractured and crumbled away. Shinja couldn’t understand the Keystone, no matter how he wished to. So all he could do was protect it and watch after it, taking care of him in service to the Army.

“It’s much less a favor than protecting the Army from possible failure. You can’t be allowed to die. Your dedication to the cause is leaps and bounds above the others; no one has strengthened their Meta Ability so thoroughly. I don’t want you to forget your obligation to Lord Re-Destro and put yourself in danger with training yourself while ill.” He paused. “I apologize. I don’t mean to demean you or act as if you have no agency.” Geten was just so stubborn and had to be watched after.

“  if there’s anything who knows my obligation to re-destro, or my importance to the success of his army, would it not be me ? apologize all you’d like, it won’t do you any good until you stop treating me as if i’m still a child.  “ 

that wasn’t it, of course. geten always knew it’s place in the army. the two had been having the same argument, since geten was a child... one would assume the doctor would know when to shut his mouth by now.

  Slim fingers play with a tuft on white hair, twirling it between his fingertips before letting go and start again. His arm is around Geten’s shoulder, keeping him close against his side while the man apparently dozes off. Normally Tomura would be glad to stay like this, simply taking on the warm feeling that his presence always brought him, but there’s something he’s wanted to talk about for a while now,  and this seems a moment as good as any other.

— “Hey,” he calls softly, his hand reaching to push away Geten’s hair from his face, so he can see his eyes, “Are you awake? I wanna talk about something.”

white-pupiled eyes flutter open as the word implied a response from it. ill-prepared for only a tick before switching to a daze of another sort. with a hum, he tilted his head, forgetting its face was on display and his response was expected to be visual as well.

geten slouched over one knee, nails turned blue and breath heavy, then rising with quick reflex when falling into redestro’s shadow. it nearly speaks before his approachable demeanor had returned, instead hanging its head with respect for the army’s great and kind lord.

Even with the quick response, it was a very contagious variant- particularly for those whose immune system were weaker than most. Geten’s health was of particular concern; someone so strong, so dedicated couldn’t be allowed to die. It was easy to tell the keystone wasn’t paying much attention despite how much care Shinja used to impress on it that its health was of utmost importance.

“Geten, please don’t make me have to keep you here for observation to ensure that you don’t go against my orders.”

if it were allowed an opinion, geten couldn’t stand the doctor. nobody condescended it the way he did. to tell him would crush re-destro though, surely. he was always so expressive that they got along. but there was nothing so infantilized as sitting in that office. geten hated feeling small. even if it only seemed that way because of the unwellness. it tore the candy off the lollipop stick with its molars.

“ Mmmmm you most definitely sound devote and loyal to him. ” A characteristic Stain knew to be of utmost importance to a following like ReDestro’s. However it also spoke for a lack of free will. A shame. 

“ What are your interests in this army, aside from following your leader’s will? ”

“  do i need a better interest ? without him there would be no army.  “  it defends. granted it hadn’t a very long fuse, but the mans skepticism was offputting.
