A view of the ever changing terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs near the northern entrance of Yellowstone National Park.  These layer-cake like structures are said to be different every year with some springs stopping and starting at random.  Mineral deposits create the soft icing-like covering on the terraces.  

A view of the vibrant Morning Glory Pool.  Apparently tons of material has been tossed into this pool over the years by visitors and made it less vibrant than it used to be - imagine that.

More bacterial mats from the lesser geyser basin in Yellowstone National Park.  The photo on the right also showcases that, while off limits to visitors, these mats are not off limits to wildlife (notice the bison tracks).  

These vibrant and fragile structures are alive, literally, and are made colorful from the archaebacteria that live within the waters.  Color is determined by differing temperatures and mineral content of the waters.

At the base of Grand Teton lies Jenny Lake, carved into the valley floor by glaciers millions of years ago. 

A rugged road through the Beartooth Wilderness on the road from Billings, MT to the northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park in Silver Gate, MT.  This road was carved out of the hillside by the US Army following the Civil War.  

The spectacular Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National Park is the largest of the prismatic pools.  This photo is NOT colorized!  These are the natural colors. Archaebacteria and cyanobacteria form different colors and live in differing temperatures of water, with blue being the warmest and red being the coolest.
