“You say this like it’s a bad thing…” He chuckled softly before letting out a slow breath. Was it? He thought about how much he let his lust and pride dictate his thoughts and actions. In truth he never would have deserved a woman like Ruth and looking at how far she’d come. How much she’d done for the people of this county. Pratt knew that all the more. Hell of a woman. 

“What can I say? I-I have eyes,” he teased, shoving her a bit. “I’m still gonna pretend that I’m the one who got away, though,” he joked, not in a prideful way but it was a bit more of the old Staci Pratt still trying to find its way back to the light now that he was safe in the Wolf’s Den. “Think you knew I was just too much to handle, Rook,” he snickered, half smiling for the first time since he’d got there.

“Nah, it wasn’t a bad thing, I just wasn’t someone anyone should’a been datin’ back then.” Ruth grinned at him and let out a laugh, slinging an arm around his shoulders to press a kiss to his temple. Then letting him shove her off with mock offense. A bit of a pout on her mouth as they kept walking. 

“So do I.” And she made a bit of a show of looking him up and down. Sure, he was skinnier and much more battered than before, “I do remember flirting back.” But that’s all it was. Staci may not have known it, but he was one of the first people that made her feel pretty back then. But she had still kept her distance. A new mom’s exhaustion was always something to kick in. 

Ruth moved to sit down on one of the couches and stretched, grunting at the loud cracks that came form her back. “Nah nah nah, I thought you were sweet. A lil’ cocky, you definitely liked gals who were a bit too much car for you, but that was pretty cute to be honest.” Her grin is a little wider, “Nah, I just had a lotta baggage at the time. I can handle you just fine. And carry you. You seen these guns?” 

“He’s not capable of shutting up. Ever.”
