a quick lighting work on a lighting challenge I've somehow stumbled across a few months back, special thanks to the TDU guys for the awesome scene setup! all models, textures, and shaders are done by the TDU guys~

a quick update on my personal stuffs on the side, I found a really interesting model on CGtrader by Michael Gallie and had decided to check it out.

I am trying to create a look similiar to a sci-fi scene, hoping to create a “Alien” kinda look, but attempting to not make it look as cold and scary.

next up I’ll be challenging myself on my shading skills; in trying to work on the whole scene with just procedural shaders. my aim is to make this piece look more exciting as this progresses on.

do keep a look out over here guys, i’ll do my best to update more often when i can.

as 10 images is the maximum limit that tumblr has for each post, thus here are the rest of the lighting breakdown for the cloudy day scene which I have done as a demo for my lighting workshop. Do check out my previous post for the cloudy day scene lighting part 1 as well, if you have not done so.

a long dued update for the cloudy day scene! apologies for the long wait. this was done many months back but i was too busy with work and everything else.

just ambient occlusion, a couple of spot lights and area lights; session was done in Maya 2011 and rendered using Mental Ray.

oh.. I’ve also started a little instagram account in trying to motivate myself in drawing more.. after all, i do need more practice; feeling pretty lost touch with all my traditional art mediums ever since I stopped my art classes back in 1998..

so please do follow me on my small adventure / journey / moments in instagram as I’ll randomly sketch / draw / doodle something.. Critics and comments are definitely welcomed so please don’t feel shy to drop in your messages!1

I then challenged both myself and the guys attending my lighting workshop to complete a night lighting.. using the same bedroom scene.. same rules, just like the morning lighting..

A recent update in my bedroom lighting as I did a demo in one of my training workshop; training new guys on lighting right from the basics!!

It’s been quite a while since my last update.. so here’s a quick one.. 

i just came back from Batam indonesia not too long ago actually.. I was with Infinite Frameworks Studio for a total of 6 months since last October.. I was then working closely with the client, Sunrise Productions. Sunrise Productions is a South African studio and we are working closely with them on their new project; Munki and Trunks! 

it was a very exciting adventure as I was working and living in batam! Batam, on the other hand, provides me a really different perspective from Singapore. Although both are similar in a few ways, such as being an island by itself. Everything you can get your hands on, is much cheaper there though.. and food feasting became a norm.. without having to break your bank / wallet.. it was totally worth it! Life became much more simpler for me when I was there, and in many ways, I felt very much closer to nature.. It was a really eye opener for me in many many ways..

by the way, let’s get back to the main topic here on Munki and Trunks (I’m getting too carried away with life.. especially in Batam.. there’s just so much to talk about my stay over there.. maybe I shall try to blog it down some other time again here on a seperate post..). 

anyways, Munki  and Trunk was a very interesting project aiming to be a pretty high quality work! 

Houdini was used for setdressing and lighting intensively and being a senior lighter in the team, I did my best in helping to streamline the pipeline and work out a proper workflow. There were many technical issue but we manage to iron many of them out, working as a team in all. 

Our team worked really hard and they are simple damn awesome artists!! it's a truly great experience to be able to work along side with everyone over there!! If given a chance to go back, I will definitely be looking forward to it and hopefully we will be able to be working together again as a team..

It’s a pity that I wont be able to show any footage for now, due to confidentiality at the moment.. But let’s look forward to seeing Munki and Trunk soon!! 

so this is one of the shot that I was working on for their Oddbods show was selected to be featured for the magazine!

Woo hoo~ *archivement unlock sfx* it’s a rare chance and I’m deeply honored to see this happening! couldn’t contain all the excitement within me and i just had to post this up. xD

It’s yet again busy days and i’ve had a great opportunity to work on some very interesting project at One Animation, with lots of awesome and extremely talented guys over here!
