About the book Sabrina & Corina by Sandra Cisneros:

I actually loved this book! It had very descriptive stories that would take me wandering away with it. I could vividly see the images in my mind as I read through this book. Some of the stories actually made me cough up a little. I really learned a lot of things about Colorado from this book, and I found my self googling places that once took place in Colorado. I just finished reading this book yesterday, and I share some of the stories my my family. It is very touching that this book is dedicated to American Indians, and women. I could relate a lot of some of my own experiences with this book, from the stories of the two sisters, or Corina, the girl that moved back to Colorado from LA after being in an abusive relationship, to how the single mother used to be a stripper, or even the feeling of having your mom gone in my early childhood.

I choose to do a painting based on the story of “ Ghost Sickness”, the part where Ana is in the tub and she visualizes Clifton’s death. Honestly today marks the day that my husband passed away for 3 years now, and all i can say is time doesn’t heal, time just sucks because it makes it more clear that they truly dead.

STIMULATION

This video was meant to be aim towards the feeling of wanting constant stimulation. Recently, I’ve sometimes noticed, or felt, that I have been caught in a sort of trance of wanting consistent entertainment. Sometimes it seems like I obsessively scroll through my phone, play movies, or re-watch shows that I’ve seen too many times already; not for any reason in particular, but just because I have this urge to do so. I think this constant “need” for stimulation, and maybe even escape, is “sucking me in” and then draining me of my energy or even my life in a way.

Artist project 4: one minute performance

I was reluctant to post this video because in reality I am a very shy person, and this is the first time that I have ever posted a video of me shaking may booty, lol. Innitially I created this video, along other videos to connect my Nicaraguan heritage to the bracelet I am wearing. I was born in Nicaragua, and the dance is called Tululu and they dance it during Palo de Mayo in Nicaragua.

Artist Statement 3:

I decided to make my supercut video about the beautiful combinations of Mixed Martial Artist, Nick Diaz. I decided to make this project about Diaz for a few reasons. Firstly, I am a huge fan of the sport. Secondly, I used to train with Diaz back when I live in California a few years ago. Mixed Martial Arts is a tough sport that is not for everyone, but it is a beautiful sport that takes a lot of hard work and dedication by its athletes. Nick Diaz is known for his combination punching. He relies on his conditioning and high-volume boxing to overwhelm his opponents. I hope you enjoy this video!

Supercut project: Woman

I created this project with ideas, objects, expectations, associations, & symbols that I relate to my experience of womanhood/femininity and a glimpse of others’ ideas. It would be incredible to have a larger scope of diversity in personal experiences and connections, but I was limited on time. These are concepts of my own and some ideas I got from one of my friends. I came up with this idea because I was thinking about how so many women have different backgrounds that shape the idea of what being a woman means to them. We share a lot of experiences in womanhood, but there are a lot of other aspects like culture, religion, race, socio economic status, sexuality, gender identity, etc that have an impact on our view of what being a woman represents.

Overall, this was my first time making my own video on premiere pro aside from the technical exercise video. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and it was fun to learn the software better.

One Minute Performance

I choose to do a series of photos for this assignment about depression. I think during this time right now a lot of people can relate, and to be totally honest it was kicking my butt this past week. It made it difficult to focus and hard to concentrate on my responsibilities. I admit I was a bit apprehensive to make this happen. I already don’t like being in front of camera and to show myself in setting of vulnerability was nerve wracking. However this exercise actually helped, and served as a bit of an outlet for me. Usually I like to paint or something of that sorts to deal with these things but the motivation has been hard to reach. I choose to use the blue lights to set the mood of sadness. I was in front of my door because those moods make it feel as if I’m trapped in a room. Also the white door served as a nice background. I set up a video camera and started thinking about all the things that have been getting to me. I took screenshots of the more intense moments I was thinking about. Which is what I am presenting to you today.
