Something about Belos loving Caleb so much, and how even after his " fall", after his destruction, after all the "sins" he's committed, Belos chooses to rebuild "him" again, and again and again with hope that this time “he” would be okay, this time “ he’d” stay, this time “ he’d” be safe. Philip held onto Caleb for centuries, sacrificed so much for “him”, and he thinks Caleb fucking hates him. I think Philip is a character driven by love first and foremost; for his village, for humanity, for God, for Caleb, and subsequently for the Grimwalkers. It’s not a love that’s healthy or good, it’s not the love Caleb or the Grimwalkers deserved, but it’s love nonetheless.  It’s a love Philip feels with all his heart and it damned them all.
