Introduction to Basketball Intelligence
As we all know, there are many different attributes and a certain degree of athleticism that make up a good basketball player, including jumping ability, height, speed, reflexes, etc. But there is a key component that a great player possesses which cannot be measured and is often acquired only by playing the game itself. That key factor is basketball intelligence (basketball IQ). In this analysis, I would like to highlight the importance of basketball IQ and how Inoue Takehiko depicts this component in his work, the legendary manga Slam Dunk.

menaces to society
Nakajima Yuto x Yamada Ryosuke (More Magazine)
More 2019.02
Iâm paraphrasing a little here. Let me know if anything is really far off. Scan source: https://twitter.com/sj322nu/status/1077886770585296899
âThey once foughtâ, âthey once hated each otherâ. But right now, âthey understand each other the mostâ.
Nakajima: Right now, at the time of this interview, the drama âSuitsâ and the dome tour is happening at the same time. During this time, Yama emailed me saying âItâs OK, leave the live [tour] to me! Do your best!â.  Well⌠I was so happy [to get that message].
Yamada: Thatâs because I also understand the pain of the challenges Yuto is facing right now.
â You are both actively working in the same field as idols and as actors. You two are able to appreciate and rely on each other now, but in reality, it took a long time for you to get to this point.
Yamada: There was a time when we fought recklessly, indeed, there was also a time when we didnât talk to each other.
â When you were both Johnnyâs Jr, âyou rode the same train home from workâ, and you had good relations with each other in public and in private. Your relationship changed  when Nakajima-kun and Yamada-kun exchanged the âcenterâ position.
Nakajima: Thatâs right. I was very shocked at that after all. Â Yama had gone through a time when he stood where the spotlight couldnât reach and experienced the metaphorical âwinterâ period. From there, he worked ridiculously hard and used his skills to become the center, which I understand now. But the me back then was not able to accept that.
Yamada: We both had this âI donât want to lose to himâ attitude. We have a strong rivalry and we didnât know âhow to handle that guyâ, so to speakâŚ
Nakajima: But now, we think of that time as a precious experience. For us, it became a huge opportunity to face each other, and we were also able to grow from that. Thatâs why we are able to become aware of a lot of things.
â Your relationship has demonstrated that you see each other as âclearly formidable rivals, you use the other as a goal to strive for improvement, and you are able to do your best because the other person stimulates youâ, as Yamada-kun said before.
Yamada: Thatâs right, if Yuto were not there, I would not be able to stand where I am now. For me, I still remember very clearly of the time when I first met Yuto.  Yuto joined Johnnyâs before me, and among the Jr, he was an extremely charismatic presence. I saw him dance on stage and thought it was âawesome!!â  After that I felt that âI want to see the view from where Yuto standsâ⌠That was the starting point in the journey to become everything I am now.
â Now you are friends as well as rivals. Youâve said âfrom now on, you two will be the stimulation for each other. For that reason, you may continue your personal growth.â Â Since you acknowledge each other, you can talk to each other now. Â There is a mountain worth of things you want to say to each other.
Nakajima: The other day, we said âby the way, the two of us had not gone drinking together.â We said we will go drinking together when I finish shooting the drama.
Yamada: Although I am happily looking forward to that now⌠why am I nervous (laughs)? You are curious as to what the two of us are going to talk about?  Want us to tell you when we go? No way, I will definitely not tell you (laughs)*.
*But he did tell in his Jump Paper! They bumped into Chinen and posted a group selfie. đ
Yamada Ryosuke x Nakajima Yuto: The two who melted together (anan part 1)

(There are more photos and a crosstalk. I'll post part 2 when I'm done translating.)
Hey!Say!JUMPâs Yamada Ryosuke san and Nakajima Yuto san graced our magazine [on this issue]. It is the first time we had this pair on the cover of anan. As sweet as chocolate, we captured the moment when they melted together for the cover gravure. It will bring out your memories of chocolate.
Yamada Ryosuke
When he heard that this issueâs theme is chocolate, âI love itâ Yamada Ryosuke san replied immediately. âThereâs one type I especially like. It is a penguin shaped milk chocolate that has a bitter caramel centre; itâs a luxury item that costs 300 yen each. Since the filming of âMoeyo Kenâ was really tough, when I returned to the hotel after filming, I would treat myself to 1 piece to encourage myself. On the days where I had really difficult sword fighting scenes, I ate 2 (laughs). I like it that much. If I have to give a reverse Valentine gift to hardworking women? I will use good whiskey to make a highball and spend the time together with her. Since that is someone I like, I can send my thoughts straightly. I am not very good with the type that plays games. I donât understand people who will not confess their love because they are afraid of being turned down, when they cannot suppress their feelings in the first place.
I played Yoshimori Ryoichi in âKiokuya: Anata wo Wasurenaiâ. There were scenes where I cannot hold back my feelings. âThe script for that scene said â1 tear roll down the faceâ, but I cried too much. Although it was NG at one point, in the end, that was the cut that was used. Ryoichi is a blend of Yuto and I. [Ryoichâs] ridiculously earnest part is Yutoâs and the taking action once he decided part is mine. His reaction to each thing that happened in front of him was interesting to play. I donât need Kiokuya, who can erase peopleâs memories. There are no memories I want to erase; itâs just too painful if I lost [the memory] of the time I spent with the group. It spanned more than half of my life and there is nothing more fun than this.â
Nakajima Yuto
In the drama âBoku ha Doko Karaâ, Takeuchi Kaoru, who has the ability to copy other peopleâs thoughts when he writes their texts, is played by Nakajima Yuto san. âKaoru wanted to be a novelist, but thanks to his ability, he could not write his own work. âWhat am Iâ was something that confused him. In order to show that side, I asked myself the same question; didnât I become someone who wanted to find himself? I was grateful that I could make my own choices and enjoyed my own growth process. Although having the special power was troublesome to Kaoru, I would like to have a special power. Teleportation, shapeshifting, etc will be cool. I think I will transform into someone nobody knows and walk around the city a lot.
I often received Valentineâs chocolates from the staff on the film set. âThey could be expensive and the person might have lined up at the shop for a long time to get them. When I think about that, I am really thankful for [the gift]. If I were to give someone [chocolates], I will give them classy and delicate chocolates. The type where there are many flavours and are lined up one-by-one [in the box]. That way, you can eat without getting bored, and thatâs how I like it too. You can hold that and take a plunge to confess in a place where there are lots of people. Since you can use the power from the people around you who would say, âdo your best!â (laughs) Right now, is there someone who would buy nice chocolates for me? I think it is important to set rewards. Especially when I am so busy with work and I start to lose track of myself, spoiling me a little will bring a lot of help to me. I think giving chocolates to someone who worked really hard as a reward is great.â
The Yama who wants to be spoiled belongs to me exclusively (smiles). - Yuto

The thing that gets me most about all the âthe age gap makes it inappropriateâ arguments is that the age gap is literally THE. POINT. 95% of the plot is devoted to what this age gap means and the problem it poses for Akira and Shinâs relationship. Thereâs no way they want us to conveniently forget about it.
It reminds me of My Beautiful Man, in a way. The way Hira idolizes Kiyoi and the way Kiyoi responds to it is certainly not a healthy dynamic, but thatâs the obstacle they overcome in the end. Itâs not brushed under the rug and left there just for dramatics and entertainment value. Presenting issues and acknowledging these issues is what makes them great.

Minato-san can you cheer me up a bit? Maybe a kiss or more. Or anything. I really canât tell if youâre greedy or modest. Canât you give me that? All right. It canât be helped then. Come here.
