Nexus 7 Tablet - Great For Retro Arcade Gaming!
Hi, this is my very first Tumblr post about Retro Arcade Gaming with the Nexus 7 tablet. I have only owned this Android Tablet for about a week now and I have to say I am very impressed with it so far.
After purchasing the tablet and browsing Google Play store, I stumbled upon an app called âMame4Droidâ. The app which at the moment is available FREE of charge, enables your android tablet to emulate all the old classic arcade games such as Space Invaders, Double Dragon, Pac Man, 1942 and many more.
However, to play these classic arcade games using the app it requires the original game roms. For legal reasons I cannot tell you where to download them so you will have to do a bit of searching yourself.
Once you have found your game roms, the installation of them is dead easy. Simply connect your Nexus 7 Tablet to your PC and upload the roms to the roms folder on your tablet. Once you load up the âMame4Droidâ APP on your tablet the games should be displayed in the app menu. Then it is a case of deciding which one you would like to play.
Control wise the app displays by default âtouch screen controlsâ. However, I found the controls do not work very well with most of the games. Therefore, what you will need is an OTG host cable, which will allow you to plug in a wired game controller of your choice. I use a PS3 controller and it works great!
The âMame4Droidâ APP in my experience runs these retro arcade games perfect. In addition, the only thing I can think of missing from playing these past games on my Nexus 7 is a wood MDF arcade cabinet with proper controls. Oh and I nearly forgot, a pocket full of big old 10p coins!
