The Titanic disaster occurred on April 15, 1912, with Harry Elkins Widener ‘07 among the victims.  Widener Library is a memorial to the young book collector.

Widener Memorial Room, 1915

As many of our followers know, Widener Library owes its existence to the tragic death of a young Harvard alum who went down with the Titanic. The core of the library, as designed by Harry’s mother, is this room which holds Harry’s extensive rare book collection.
