The Internet, a moodboard Personally, I think the Internet has got to be mankind’s greatest invention so far. To capture the essence of today’s incredible technology, I’ve highlighted a few key points in the development of Internet (though there are a lot of theories about its history) as well as its features today in a moodboard!

Printed Media vs. Broadcast Media
If we take a moment to look at the world around us now, one thing a lot of us would notice is that we’re surrounded by televisions, computer screens, books and papers. These commodities take up the forms of media which are printed media and broadcast media that are mainly utilized for spreading news and information. I’d like to highlight the differences between the both of them.
1. Definition
Let’s look at their meanings first. Printed media delivers news and information through printed publications, such as books, magazines and newspapers. Broadcast media, on the other hand, delivers news and information through audio and video content, like the television and radio. Here we can tell that these two forms of media use different types of technologies in order to spread messages. It is a fact that broadcast media is fairly newer compared to printed media that existed since the 15th century.
2. Length of message
The length of information differs significantly in both print and broadcast media. For instance, newspapers and magazines often include longer, more detailed pieces of information in order to supply sufficient information to the readers. Unlike printed media, broadcast media has to be quick-hitting, because it focuses on visuals and audio to entice a viewer/listener for a certain period of time. The news anchor on televisions tends to cover shorter stories than newspapers as they usually display just a headline and a few clips for their audience.
Newspaper articles provide long, detailed information
News anchor on television provide limited stories with main headline
3. Appeal
It is fitting to say that broadcast media has a multi-sensory appeal compared to newspapers, that require literacy and more focus to tend to. With broadcast media – especially television, we are given the opportunity to watch footages of events as they happen. The background sounds and actions are qualities that printed media could not offer. Nonetheless, printed media still has its value because according to a lot of people, it feels better to hold information in a physical form.

To summarize, the differences between printed media and broadcast media can be found in their definition, length of message and their appeal. In my opinion, I love the fact that these two forms of media continue to coexist with one another because it allows us to enjoy a variety of information and artwork out there in the world.

Why Crybaby Zine is a Good Blog
In the midst of a busy life, I’m lucky that I still have time to sit down and scroll through some cool blogs online. They mainly serve as an inspiration, to guide me through my creative endeavours in life. Although blogging wasn’t as trendy as it used to be, a lot of artists today use blogs as a platform to share their craft, and the people behind crybabyzine.com are no exception for that. To further elaborate, I’d love to lay out 3 reasons why I think Crybaby Zine is a good blog to spend time lurking on:
1. It is run by a group of creative young women.
Originally a Tumblr blog, Crybaby Zine was started by 16-year-old Remi Riordan from New Jersey. She established a collective of equally passionate women her age to share a compendium of stories for their peers. As a young woman myself, this is very powerful and awe-inspiring.
2. It is aesthetically pleasing.
The moment Google Chrome directs me to crybabyzine.com, I am welcomed by a stylish homepage that fits the current aesthetics of web design. The layout is simple yet sophisticated, with its satisfactory combination of fonts, colours and illustrations. Not just that, their articles are neatly arranged and well-written.
I personally love that their most recent article is featured in full size like this

3. It has a broad range of artistic content.
To fully grasp what Crybaby Zine is all about, one should definitely experience it themselves. The zine offers a compilation of interviews with young American women in the creative industry who love sharing their insights and experiences in photography, TV/film, literature, as well as activism. In fact, they even cover issues related to race, gender, sexuality and politics. This not only strengthens their inclusivity but also helps a larger teenage audience to relate altogether.
The variety of content published in the zine
All in all, I think Crybaby Zine serves its purpose of connecting creative teens (especially girls) to stand up together and conquer the world. The fact that their blog is growing even bigger now is proof that it is the future of media and that is beyond amazing for our generation. Check it out yourself!
