Far Off Sounds - Dave Bixby: God's Singing Man
There is also a full length documentary coming out about the hauntingly isolated and beautiful music of Dave Bixby called Second Coming.
Trailer is here:Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LSoLe5MDGk
Clip of an upcoming short documentary about outsider synth-lord Konrad. His 1982 private press record “Evil" is being re-issued on the Light in The Attic label. I’m so glad that even though he looks like a normal dude he’s still got some pretty weird ideas.

This week's show features releases by Thoughts On Air, Fossils, Darksmith, Intersystems, and Marika Papagika.
The ceaselessly prolific Scott Johnson kindly passed a digital copy of Saffron Bay to friends, and I was fortunate enough to be included. Â It was also reviewed by Weird Canada, which you can read here.
Fossils is a project I've have had a lot of direct connections with over the years, but have not played on the show much.  I am hoping to do 1 or 2 show feature on Hamilton, Ontario's resident improv noise unit in the future with long-time Fossils collaborator and friend Josh St. Denis. So look out for that in future times. Â
Marika Papagika was a Greek folk musician and the track played is from a collection of her work recorded in New York City between 1919-1928 called The Further the Flame, The Worse It Burns Me.Â

This week's show featured releases by Fursaxa, Anahita, Linda Perhacs, Pulse Emitter, Tara Jane O'Neil, The Jacks, 13th Floor Elevator, Folkdove, Ellie Daniels, Merkin. Â
An old friend recently passed away before this show aired, which kind of had an influence on what was played. Â It ended up being a mixture of more dark/sombre experimental folk and acid folk plus some nostalgic selections going back to favourites like The Jacks, 13th Floor Elevator, and Ellie Daniels.Â

New Directions Radio :: April 2, 2014
This week's show featured music by Acta Non Verba, Christina Carter, Pocahaunted, Andreas Brandal, Innercity, Charles Cohen, and Orphan Fairytale.Â
Had a bit of a rough start this evening due to some technical issues. Started the show from the Avant section of the CFMU library from Acta Non Verba out of Edmonton, AB.
With the constant flow and ease of streaming music it had been a while since I had touched many of my own records.  But luckily I had a bit of time to revisit some of my favourite LPs such as this Christina Carter/Pocahaunted split.  Both sides feature gorgeous music by each respective artist and I chose my favourite selections by each.  While Pocahaunted will only be remembered through the annuls of time Christina Carter has been releasing a steady flow of great music. Her most recent full-length work being Texas Modern Exorcism released on her own Many Breaths label.Â
The selection by Norway's Andreas Brandal selection comes from his recent release on Tranquility Tapes. TT has been releasing a lot of my favourite tapes lately and this one is no exception. Â
Similarly, Belgian label Aguirre Records have had a multitude of wonderful offerings as of late.  On top of playing a selection from  Innercity's Terrestreality put out on Aguirre in 2011 I ended the show off a recent release by one of my new heroins, Orphan Fairytale. Aguirre put out a  2xLP release of Orphan Fairytale's collected works, My Favorite Fairytale.Â

Throat rasp was in full effect this week. Â Played tracks from releases by Imperial Topaz, Lewis, Kyle Landstra, Monopoly Child Star Serachers, Beru, Arrows and Aaron Dilloway.Â
There was not much of a plan in mind for this show. It was more so a collection of newer releases I've been digging and a few releases I had not had a chance to spend much time with until now. Â

Endless return
I will be back on the air tonight after a 2 week break due to weather and illness.  My throat is still a little wack so I won't be doing much talking/rambling but I am looking forwarded to playing some tunes. I will definitely be playing some new Imperial Topaz from Full of Grace, which is a gorgeous release by the duo of Caroline Teagle and Zachary Zierden on Tranqulity Tapes (one of the most aptly named and prolific labels happening right now).Â
Listen and stream live at cfmu.mcmaster.ca tonight @ 10PM EST.

This week's show featured tracks from releases by Knit Prism, Adderall Canyonly, Cheveu, Magic Eye, White Poppy, Maggi Payne, and M. Sage.
I had a chance to play some newer releases plus some older ones I've been enjoying. Â Knit Prism is a project by Michael Pouw who I had the opportunity to see perform and get to know a little a few years ago. He is also responsible for some of my favourite label packaging/releases via his House of Sun label. Â He has recently been releasing many great tapes and art work on his new label, Worn Habit.Â
I was planning on doing a more mellow show, but came across this Adderall Canyonly recording that I had to play that was posted on Soundcloud because it blew me away.
Cheveu are a weird and frenzied sounding band from France I was encouraged to check out. Â They are not a band I probably would have discovered on my own, but I was glad I was steered in their direction as they are a refreshing change.Â
Through both incarnations of my radio show Not Not Fun's output of releases have been on regular rotation. This has changed a bit in recent times as the label has evolved in a somewhat different direction than my own tastes. Â However, the Magic Eye release and White Poppy (who hails from Canada!) both have been nice surprises.Â
Maggi Payne is a multi-disciplinary artist who also makes some of the best New Age music and the track I played was from her very first solo release, Crystal.

This week's show featured tracks from Faux Fur, Ala Vjiior, US Steel Cello Ensemble, James Blackshaw & Lubomyr Melnyk, Felicia Atkinson, Mike Gangloff + Steve Gunn.
Faux Fur and Ala Vjiior are both Canadian projects. Â I was introduced to Faux Fur through a review on Weird Canada, while Ala Vjiior is one of the incarnations of a favourite Montreal jammer and Hobo Cultist, Francesco de Gallo. Â Pretty much anything connected to Frank and his Hobo Cube project or Hobo Cult label has been a worthwhile listen and some of the most interesting music coming out of Canada at the moment.Â
The US Steel Cello Ensemble produces some of the most captivating and strange sounds imaginable. I was blown away by the tortured space drones produced by Robert Rutman and company on large pieces of playable steel sculptures. Â I just had to play this on the show once I heard it.
Speaking of strange artefacts, The James Blackshaw and Lybomyr Melnyk is one of the most unexpected collaborations I've come across and brings together two virtuosic musicians (Blackshaw on guitar and Melnyk on piano) who are somehow able to come together merge their sounds in a way that is so complimentary. Â
I've been a fan Felicia Atkinson's project Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier  since hearing it for the fist time.  However, I am probably an even bigger fan of her solo work under her own name, which I only heard for the first time recently on Visions/ Voices.
I ended the show off with another great colab release by guitarist Steve Gunn and Mike Gangloff of Pelt. Â
