“Strange, you seem to have mistaken me for Scotland Yard…or the NOOSE.”
The doctor whirls the top of his cane, DETERMINED gaze fixated on the adversary before him. All too well, he knows the chasm of knowledge separating him from the other, a gross disadvantage on the mental plane evident in the battle waged between Holmes and Moriarty. Any that could so challenge the brilliant mind of the consulting detective was a force to be reckoned with, notwithstanding the nefarious web of rogues with which the man surrounded himself. No, his is not the place to BEST the professor in a mental or even a physical foray, but a DIVERSION to bide time for another is his to claim, to PRAY for success.
“Oh, but I have, Professor Moriarty, hence my inaction. Surely you do not think I would willingly walk into your PARLOR entirely blind? Measures have been taken to dissuade any attempts upon them, I assure you, although your endeavors toward harming them seem…MISPLACED. With world subjugation as your aim, targeting those connected with a mere doctor is mundane in comparison. Whatever will you do if none in the world may challenge you if you succeed in your diabolical scheme? INCESSANT boredom awaits—ask any government minister.”
❝– While I’m sure I’d make a FETCHING cadaver, neither constable nor noose concern me.❞
Watson might not be the most clever man alive but the professor does not doubt his TENACITY, especially when one considers his companion might have sent him for some unforeseen purpose. Afterall, why would someone so ill-equipped MEANDER into his grasp without good reason? He is no fool, simple distractions serve little use when he’s aware of them and the detective isn’t the only one with a lapdog willing to do his bidding. In fact, he has MANY, all of them ever watchful, for failure is not something he will tolerate and they know it well. Even with the diversion in mind, James decides he will entertain the little show they are putting on for him, if only to see where it may lead. Hands clasping together behind his back, he brings himself to stand, slow steps forward closing the gap between the two of them.
❝People like yourself are always BLIND, Doctor Watson, blundering about with little awareness of the wider world. – As for my endeavors, well, I shall only say that such people are but PAWNS, if I must clear them from the board to turn the game in my favor then I shall do what is necessary. It does AMUSE to think you understand my intentions, as though something as simple as owning the world would sate me. No no no, it’s something MORE than that. Something you certainly would not understand, even Holmes has yet to grasp it but it will come with time.❞
