Happy BDay
So today is my birthday. But I try to treat it like any other. But I ended up having a terrible day at work. Almost got ran over getting to my car, and almost got hit by a bus on the drive home. I was so upset.
But when I got home, my 2 year old daughter ran into me and said, "I love you." Completely clearly. This is the best birthday ever.

Everyone was in bed for the night. Everyone but Mal. He had been checking the course the had set. He knew Wash checked it before, but for some reason, he wanted to double check. Or maybe he just wanted to stare into the black for a bit. Sometimes it was nice to be alone.
But he wasnât alone. The deep red of Serenityâs cook moved at the edge of his vision. âCaptân.â Her voice called his attention, but for some reason he couldnât turn away from the black. Only now, there was red dancing at the sides of his vision. He felt soft hands moving up his back and onto his shoulders.Â
Rebeccaâs small hands worked on his tense muscles. He couldnât remember the last time someone made him feel this relaxed. Her hands moved up his neck and into his hair, lightly scratching his scalp. The captain let out a small moan. And for the first time since she started, Mal could turn his gaze from the blackness of space.
With the small girl in his view, Mal was unable to keep his calm. He pulled Rebecca to his lap, wrapping his arms around her. His eyes burned into hers. Mal always knew his spunky cook had a thing for him. But he had never done anything. It wouldnât be right for him to. But something felt different tonight. Something screamed at him to continue.Â
Mal pulled her in for a deep kiss; his free hand rubbing her legs. He felt her hands grip his shirt as she pushed back into the kiss. She turned her body in the chair until she was straddling him. They let up for air for only a moment before locking back together. Rebecca grabbed his hair as Mal started kissing her exposed neck. It wasnât long before her moans started to become vocal. âOh captân. Captân.â
"Captân? You awake?" Mal shook himself to reality. The girl in who was just on top of him now stood beside him. "I made breakfast. You hungry?"Â
The captain had to shake his head once more to be sure he was awake. âThatâs fine. Be down in a second.â She just shrugged he shoulders and headed back to the kitchen. âFirst ânara, now her. Whatâs the go shi is with me lately?â
"Ya think?!" Wash snapped. It was frustration, really. He huffed out a breath and walked towards where the shuttle had been. "Guess we could ask around? See if anybody saw where they hell they took it? Or - yâknow - who took it.â
"Ain't this just our ruttin' luck." Mal's first thought was why? Why did this always happen. Every rutting job. He had to be cursed."You want to ask the den of theives to the right, or the religious lookin' folk to the right? I ain't exactly happy with our situation right now."

"You still wantin' to fly with us low down crooks, 'Nara?"
"That depends largely on where you âlow down crooksâ intend on flying," she said, hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "But, as a whole, I might be willing to admit that is my intent, yes."
"Iâm not sure ânorthâ even applies in space," she countered with a small laugh, "and thereâs certainly no wind. But it is a pretty metaphor. Youâre practically a poet, Mal.â She shook her head of that thought, considering the captainâs destination instead. New Hall would have at least one someone respectable to book, and that was all she truly needed.Â
Glad for once that he wasnât harping on her own business endeavors, Inara nodded. âI could go north for a while too.â
A smile spread across the captains face. Inara always knew how to make him bring that out of him. âWe got ain't got no hurry to leave. Few days at least, week at most. You gonna be joinin' us when we leave?" She also had the ability to make him very upset.
When she would stay on world, Mal constantly worried about her. She would sometimes be off Serenity for weeks at a time. He would always act like it didn't bother him. But the crew always knew.

"That just ainât right." Mal kept his hand on his pistol. Half expecting this man to pop out from behind every corner. "Letâs get you to Serenity. Got a good crew. Theyâll keep you safe long as youâre on board." They had finally arrived at Serenity. Mal gave orders Zoe and Jayne to watch the door. "Let's get you to the infirmary."
