“That’s her,” Bess answered, smiling a little. Bella was always the ‘cute’ one. “She always tries to watch ‘em, ‘cause I don’t think she likes being looked down on. Like, none of us are, but she tries anyway and then she gets freaked. And we’ve been sharing a room since ever, and when she gets nightmares no one’s sleeping. I try givin’ her just softcore and tacky horror, but she’s determined to watch the hard shit. There’s no way in hell I’d let her watch Child’s Play. Not with the amount of plushies she has. Fuck that.”

“What is it with the sweet ones that they have to appear hard-core?” Raven asked, meaning it to be rhetorical. She’d seen it so often, someone would be considered cute and sweet, maybe even innocent and then they had to go prove that they were the total opposite of that. “So you’re close with your sisters” Raven half stated and half asked. If they’d been sharing a room, Raven could assume that they’d be close, but what did she really know, she’d never had siblings and she wouldn’t really consider herself close with her roommate, maybe Kori. 

“Nope,” Bess replied with a confident pop. “But that’s the fun of it. When nothin’ scares ya, but something still makes you flinch, y’know it’s a good game. Like an adrenaline rush.” As far as Bess was concerned it was. “Nothin’ beats a well done horror-fest. I can’t really play ‘em with my sisters, though. Bella gets freaked really frickin’ easily.”

“I can see that” Raven nodded. As much as she didn’t like horror, she could understand the thrill of being scared. Like on Halloween, her favorite holiday, it was fun to walk through a haunted house and have people jump out at you. She just wasn’t a fan of all the creep back-stories and weird effects that came with horror movies and games. “Bella’s the cute pretty one right?” 

Bess stared back in return, and eyebrow raised. Her face screamed ‘try me, bitch’, before returning to her bargain hunt with a smile. “Horror,” Bess replied instantly, grinning wide, “N’action. Like, Mortal Kombat an’ Tekken action. I tried ‘em Call of Duty type action but y’can beat ‘em in a day. Plus, s’fun beatin’ the shit outta someone with your fists, even if it’s digital. Friendlier games like Mario Kart are for when my sisters want’ta join in. But nothin’ beats horror.”

Raven looked at Bess with her eyebrows raised as well, for a moment, a little scared that the girl was actually going to fight her. She had been joking, maybe she couldn’t joke like yet around Bess, sometimes it took people a little bit to warm up to her. “Horror” Raven nodded. “Not one to get easily scared then?” She asked. Raven herself came across as someone who enjoyed horror, the way she dressed and acted all fell into the stereotype of a girl who would like horror, but it freaked her out. She couldn’t sit through a horror film to save her life. 

“Exactly,” Bess replied, mockingly raising her nose in a rather ‘stuck-up’ manner. “Free will is useless when I can just force people to do what I want. They don’t get a choice.” Scoffing in amusement, she shrugged in response. “Suit yourself.” As a general rule, Bess didn’t hit other girls. Namely because most girls she initiated a friendship with a punch with got huffy over it. Boys complained less. The wonders of a masculine ego. Some girls were an exception, but Raven didn’t strike Bess as one. “Wasn’t plannin’ on bruisin’ ya.”

"Good, because I’d have to beat you up if you did” Raven said flatly, but there was a hint of a smirk on her face as she spoke. “So” She said, glancing around the gaming store. “What are your games? Besides that Alice one and Mario Kart?” Raven had no idea what the different games were, so she would probably have no idea which ones Bess liked, but it was something to ask. Raven wasn’t the best with conversation.

“Why would I want to do that?” Bess asked slowly, staring intently at Raven in what she hoped was a creepy manner. “Then they might say no. And we don’t want that.” Breaking into a grin again, she held up a fist, “I also like’ta initiate broships with a punch if you want one of them instead.” Connections were easily forged for Bess. True, most people she tended to make friends with were male or as outgoing as her. Preferably both. Raven was a class of her own, sure, but it didn’t occur to Bess just how out of the element Raven was in this situation.

Raven smirked, thinking Bess’s “creepy” was cute, in a ‘ah, you’re so cute trying to be creepy’ way. Raven had seen enough creepy in her life to not be phased. “Oh no” She shook her head. “Can’t have people making their own free will choices, that’s no good” She played along. “I think I can do without the punching” Raven said flatly. She’d always had a feeling that she’d be a good fighter, but Raven had never gotten into a fight, or punched someone or anything of the like. She’d been in situations that could have led to that, but Raven always opted to take a more peaceful rout. 

“Consider it brought.” Bess forced herself not to laugh, because somehow she imagined laughing at someone trying to be your friend wasn’t entirely right. It still sounded so corny. Smooth. “Is that your way of askin’ me to be your friend?” She asked teasingly, though smiled none-the-less. “S’cool. You already accepted my gum of friendship. It’s too late to back out now.”

“Oh is that what that was?” Raven pointed to her mouth where she was still chewing the gum. “Gum of friendship? You know, you should really warn people before you give it too them” She smirked. “Unless your plan is to trick people into being your friend” This was so weird, Raven was making a friend, because she wanted to. Not because she was mostly forced into due to detention or because someone was way too nice to her. Not that Raven didn’t value those friendships, they were the best ones she had, but this was Raven becoming friends with someone simply because she thought they were cool. That was weird. 

“I’m so laughing at your Toadette,” she replied, grinning ear to ear. “They probably care because their getting their asses whooped by a mushroom. S’fair enough. Bowser’s still going to sauté your girl.” Shrugging, she looked back at the other, “I mean, Playstations the best way to go, but you can get a PC copy. It’s just PC is more difficult. Y’can give it a go at mine if you want. It would be right down your alley, Witch.”

“Bring it on” Raven laughed, trying to remember which one Bowser was, the name sounded familiar, but she couldn’t picture the character. It was too late to ask which one he, or she, was at this point though so she made a mental note to look it up later. “I’m not up for difficult games” Raven rolled her eyes. “So I guess we’re gonna have to become friends if I wanna play this game”
