Would you happen to have comic recs if one were to be interested in reading more about Norman? Both as the Green Goblin and not? He seems really interesting.

I really like Norman as a character. He’s complex, but unfortunately, most writers make him out to be an “Abusive bad dad" without any redeeming qualities. It seems like villains rarely get to be dimensional anymore. He also deals with mental illness and went through abuse as a child. In the beginning, he was more of a workaholic who ignored his son, but still loved Harry. Over time, they added in verbal abuse and sometimes physical abuse too and made them increasingly estranged.
From the beginning, a lot of writers have made choices with Norman’s character that I don’t agree with. For example, I think Sins Past should be ignored nd never should have existed. And the storyline where Nick Spencer has him sell his son’s soul to the devil to save his company is not in his character either. Sadly, Norman has suffered from the same bad writing as many long-running villains. Some writers make him worse to make Harry look better or because they don't want you to feel sympathetic to him. The whole “I hate my son” storylines still don't make sense to me, especially if you read the original Silver Age comics. It feels like every character gets exaggerated into a caricature over time.
A lot of people really like Dark Reign, but I really don’t like Brian Michael Bendis for many reasons, and I find Norman is NOT in character at all for the run. Most of the villains' characterization is off if you read older comics. I’m also not a fan of Dan Slott, but to each their own. Those comics: I find the concepts/ideas interesting, but the execution leaves much to be desired. My recs below
It's been a while since I've done a TFATWS rewatch. I did the first two episodes a while back and made some suggestions of what I would've changed (I think it's under #tfatws rewatch). But anyway...
I really do believe the show should've been a movie to prevent the splintering of the audience between movie-goers and those whose countries didn't have disney+ access at the time. Also because it wouldn't have 'disneyplused' Sam Wilson (in the words of John Boyega).
But mainly because it would've focused up and tightened the storyline, and spared us all the insufferable 'let's see what Walker's up to' scenes.
Ditch the "Oh I feel so nervous about being Cap'" poor me routine in the locker room. Ditch the 'fans' coming up to him with stuff to sign (in a foreign country ???). Ditch the "Yeah we did some pretty messed up black ops back in the day, didn't we. Oh well im Cap now lol" chat with Lemar.
Oh and ditch his crappy trash can shield and trying to get a hero moment at the end. Nope. He can have his courtroom crashout and Val scooping him up, because he clearly didn't learn a damn thing. That's it.
All that time wasted on a character, beyond the scope of what was required for the antagonist. The villain actually. Because Karli wasn't the villain. Walker and the GRC were.
And also - had the show been a film, it would've prevented this kind of piecemeal unfolding of the story, where a week passed between each episode, which allowed the stupidest people online to latch onto Walker and headcanon him as their new poor little meow meow.
Had it been a movie, we'd have received the story all in one go. Act 1-to-Act 3 and the focus on Sam Wilson becoming Cap, and the limited bare minimum requirement for Walker (As. The. Villain) would've done a lot to keep the mainstream attention where it was meant to me.

what's that one thing where they asked how ripely from alien was so realistic and believable as a female character in scifi for once and they were like "well we just took the dude from the original script and made him a girl and changed nothing else. it works bc men and women are the same?" and people were like "woah no way" and then didn't learn anything from that for 20 years
"how do you write such believable men as a woman?" "how do you write such believable women a man?" and the answer people who are good at it always give is "i just write people. were literally the exactly the same. do you think the opposite sex is some sorta totally different animal???" and people respond "woah that's wild. yea i do. and im not gonna stop thinking that goodbye :)"
Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.

And then Winter told Emilia she's not his daughter anymore and Alpine's evil and even Liho's evil and I don't know what's going on with the rest of the polycule but it doesn't exactly look good 😭. And I don't even KNOW who else's affected you broke containment so hard
