2 ALMOST 3 YEARS OF FURTHER 5 incorrect quotes ( 1 / 5 )
â come on in! â vanessa swings open the door to her room slash the shed in the backyard of her grandmaâs house. this had been her summer project ââ turning the small, unused space into her personal space. so after a lot of long days and even longer nights, the girl had finally finished her project and she was beyond proud. so, in order to celebrate, she invited her friends over to really break the new place in.  â  what do you think? took FOREVER but it was so worth it! now all thatâs left to do is decorate for the big âween. hallow, that is.  â  she smiles brightly, motioning for her friend to sit.  â so, whatâs been going on in your world? i feel like i spent all summer stuck here that am detached from the rest of the world.  â

lana.
â  uhm, if youâd like, we canââââ  â  lanaâs attempt to knock mrs. york out of the daze sheâs found herself in is stopped by the woman herself.  i donât believe you,  she says as her eyes bounce between the two girls.  â  why would we lie?  â  her mouth hangs open and she momentarily looks to vanessa until she feels mrs. yorkâs staring daggers at the side of her face. when the two lock eyes, carolineâs motherâs expression goes from heartache to disgust.  you said your name is solana winship, correct?  lana nods, unsure of where this conversation is headed.  but, thatâs not entire true, is it? deep down, youâre a willis. and why should i believe someone with a name that disgraced?  oh, okay. well, now she gets it. however, when the words sink in, she doesnât let it faze her; she just continues to fixate on mrs. york, even as she speaks to the friend beside her.  â  nessa, call the cops and tell them where to go.  â
nessaâs jaw drops at the older womanâs words towards lana. part of her understands why sheâs reacted the way that she has, but there was no need to take it out on her friend. she does as sheâs told, pulling her cellphone out and quickly dialing 911, waiting for it to ring before an operator picks up. vanessa tells the man over the phone the whereabouts of caroline yorkâs body ( heavily stressing the mayer situation ) before hanging up. â theyâre sending someone over to take us there. â she anounces briefly, the tension in the room not thinning at the slightest.Â

ashley.
ashley couldnât remember the last time she had slept as well as she did the night before. maybe therapy did work. feeling energized, there was a bounce in her step as she headed out the door. the trip to hq wasnât complete without her stopping to pick up a few dozen donuts for her coworkers. she had a smile on her face as she entered the office. though she had beat most people there, she approached one of the mysterybusters with their back to the door. with the boxes of pastries balanced on one palm, ashley wrapped her free hand around their eyes. âguess who,â she half-sang, exerting very little effort to make it a difficult guess.Â
vanessa jumps as her eyes are covered, relaxing immediately at the sound of the familiar voice.  â well, your hands are soft and they smell like candy, which is an ashley cohen trademark so iâm gonna guess and say . . . isaiah? â she bites back her laugh as she turns to face the blonde, â ash! i honestly didnât expect to see you âround here since ... â smile falter slightly as she remembers their trip to the maxwell lodge and the events that happened the night they were there.  â doesnât matter. whatâs in the box? â
lana.
following vanessa, she enters the york house and they sit side by side on the couch. when lana sees the hope drain from the motherâs eyes, her heart sinks. although, she knows thatâll be the hardest part of it allââââ being the ones to cause this family to let go of any anticipation of their daughter returning home one day. if only the woman would believe them.  â  itâs not a joke, mrs. york. iâŠÂ  â  leaning forward, lana holds her gaze and lies straight to her face.  â  i talked to my dad when he was in prison and he told me what happened.  â  the watered down version sounded a lot better. sheâs pretty sure â he killed her and buried her body down the street â wouldnât be taken well.  where is she? the question comes immediately after, but lana doesnât answer.
thereâs a very tense and awkward silence after mrs. york asks her question, mostly because nessa knows sheâs supposed to answer her question. out of the two, sheâs the one who knows where it was. but, she doesnât know how to say it without it sounding as depressing as it actually was.  â sheâs . . . â words get caught in her throat, this is going to suck.  â the large field behind the the neighborhood. â her voice is strained as she finally gives the woman the answer sheâs been looking for since her daughter disappeared all those years ago. if vanessa herself was feeling extremely emotionalââ she can only imagine how lana feels. carolineâs ghost looks at her for the first time since theyâve arrived and smiles, thanking vanessa softly before she disappears in the blink of an eye. attention is now returned to her mother, and sheâs just sitting there. in shock, vanessa assumes. eyes dart over to lana, what do they do now?
lana.
when the door slams, lana doesnât even flinch. vanessa is right, itâs exactly what she expected. which is why they prepared for thisââââ they have a plan b because there is no possible way in hell sheâd leave here without doing what she came to do.  â  she just has to be difficultâŠÂ  â  her eyes fall to vanessaâs face and then to the closed door again. thereâs another pause before lanaâs fist begins to pound on it.  â  please mrs. york! we⊠uhm, we have information about carolineâŠÂ  â  she stares down at her feet, feeling uneasy as the truth is revealed. but, it all worth it because the door opens right back up.  come in,  the woman speaks in a much softer tone now and steps aside, making room for them to enter.
vanessa did not expect what just happened to happen, so when theyâre invited inside the house; she doesnât hesitate. going in before lana, she tries to feel the room for any sign of a spirit and lucky for themââ she does. itâs caroline. and sheâs here. ness tries not to look to suspicious, turning to look at the woman and lana as she gestures for them to sit down in the living room. caroline stands next to her mother whoâs seated directly across from them.  what do you know about her? what is going on?  she stares at them with almost hopeful eyes, as if she expects them to tell her that caroline was alive and well.  â mrs. york. we have reason to believe that we know where sheâs buried. â the words are hard for vanessa to say, and she clenches her fists, digging her fingernails into the palm of her hand to let some of the nerves out. carolineâs ghostly figure looks down at her mother and she places her hand on her shoulder, and ness can see mrs. york react to it by raising her own hand and setting it in the same spot where her daughterâs was.  w-what? is this some sick joke? vanessaâs eyes widen and she quickly denies that, looking over at lana so that she could jump in and help.
lana.
she gives vanessa a stern look of bitterness after she tells her what to do, but reluctantly drops her arm back down to her side again anyway. patientsâą is not much of lanaâs strong suit, especially when it comes to waiting for something that causes such anxiety. once she finally hears someone coming to the door, she takes a deep breath. here we go. when she feels vanessaâs eyes on her, lana puts on a perfectly fake smile in front of the woman.   and you are?   is asked of the two of them.  â  this is vanessa wright⊠and iâm solana winship,  â  just hearing herself say it makes her skin crawl. itâs been a long time since those words have left her mouth.  â  i right down the street from here years ago. i know itâs been a while, but do you remember me?  â
hearing lanaâs full name felt odd, and she can tell that it was weird for lana to say. the older woman stares at the two girls dumbfounded and vanessa doesnât blame her.  of course i remember you. your father was a maniac!  her voice raises at the end before she slams the door in their faces.  â well... â vanessa trails off, looking over at the other girl.  â that went exactly as planned. â
elijah sutton not being in love with vanessa wright, a thrilling sagaÂ

I actually like it better broken.Â
kimi.
â okay, i donât think heâs been fake murdered and forced into a cult. iâm almost positive heâs still somewhere getting drunk. heâs just somewhere that makes him Not Our Problemâą. â kimi arches an eyebrow at nessaâs soft reprimand to not be mean. ever since blairâs callout, kimiâs been more honest about her feelings. that is to say, the bitch has been mean all the damn time. she lets out a soft scoff, watching as vanessa goes to grab the tupperware. â god, iâm in love with you, â she mutters reverently, grabbing a cookie and taking a bite. she wonât admit it, but it actually is pretty tasty. â this will help the hangover, will not cure the problem of me being here for no damn reason. â
â thatâs so fucking valid. and we cans ay heâs not our problem as much as we want, but at the end of the day he is since iâm assuming heâs not with his frat anymore. â nessa vaguely remembers overhearing isaiah and zach talk about it, but the second she heard the two jocks talking about frats; she spaced out. â easy there, kimi. we canât be catching feelings during this hot girl summer. you can have another one if you want. i really shouldnât have gotten this many but, like, theyâre so fucking good. â she reaches in to get one for herself, immediately biting in. â well, letâs give you a reason. i keep asking people to help me clean the basement but no one wants to. cowards. âÂ
eli.
â okay ,  but you  canât prove  that. â  his  butt  hits the  chair  with  a  soft thump  ,  and  he  grins  at his  best  friend.  â  okay  , but  itâs  different  with  you  ! youâre  my  best  friend  ,  which  pretty much  means  you  have  a  free  pass  to  steal my  girl  whenever.  but  VEE  ?  i  totally  understand ,  i  ,  too  ,  would  dump  me  for  her  ,  but  that  doesnât mean  it  doesnât  hurt  !  â  hooking  a  foot  around  one  of  the legs  ,  elijah  effectively  puts  himself  back  on  his  bullshit  , but  carefully  keeps  a  hold  on  the  desk  this  time.  â  should  i  just get  a  new  cat  ?  like  ,  the  jealousy  card  is  sooooo  old  ,  but  iâm  running out  of  ideas  here.  maybe  if  i  do  make  her  jealous  ,  sheâll  remember  all  of the  time  weâve  shared  together  and  love  me  again  ?  â
vanessa snickers, shaking her head.  â câmon, donât stoop so low. but the sound of another kitten is making my heart melt. actually, have you considered getting a dog ? can you imagine tippi and co ? thatâd be so cute. â  she leans against his desk, adjusting the glasses on the bridge of her nose.  â  oh, speaking of petsââ this has nothing to do with them, anywayââ guess whoâs moving out of her nanaâs house this upcoming semester ? â to thumbs jolt out and she points them in her direction,  â i am. found the cutest little townhouse near campus. itâs official, youâre gonna have to help me decorate. iâm thinkinâ halloween decorations all year  âround. yes ? no ? am i over doing it ? â
lana.
lana appreciates vanessaâs use of the words friendsââââ even if it is quite a strong one for some of the relationships she has with the group.  â  that sounds⊠excruciating. but iâm willing to risk the possibility if it means bringing peace to caroline and her family,  â  she nods once after vanessaâs nudge and starts a path to the front door. taking a hand out of her pocket, lana raises it to ring the door bell. when it finishes ringing and no sign of movement comes from inside the house, her eyes meet vanessaâs.  â  huh,  â  then, after much deliberation, meaning doing the first thing she thinks of, she brings her hand to hover over the button again and starts to excessively press it.
vanessaâs hand comes up to keep lana from pressing the button again.  â relax, lana. give them some time. â she lets go and after another brief second of silence, she hears noises behind the door followed by sound of them unlocking it. from it, an older woman peers out, looking at the two girls in conffusin and vanessa immediately speaks up.  â hello maâam, sorry to bother you. are you missus york? â she asks with a friendly smile, eyes darting over to look at lana quickly before they return to who she assumes is carolineâs mom.
kimi.
â donât do this to me. iâm dying here. â as if sheâs not disappointed in her own choice of men. she lets out a noncommittal noise, staring at her laptop without turning it on. â i donât know what the fuck zach is doing these days. i think i tried texting him, like, three weeks ago and he didnât answer, so whatever. and i wish i hadnât been invited. going was the dumbest thing iâve ever done, i swear to god. â she looks to vanessaâs desk longingly. â i do want a cookie, but thatâs not a journey iâm willing to make right now. didnât micah go on, like, a pinterest bender or something ? â while kimi, like everyone else, received his sos text, she knew better than to take it seriously. she only knows about the food because a) itâs always food with micah, and b) eli made an instagram post of the mess. â stop encouraging him, or heâs just going to do it again. â
â has someone checked up on him? last time one of us went missing, they were fake murdered in the office. â she jokes about blair and daniel, looking around to see if they were around to hear it, letting out a sigh of relief that they werenât. returning to their conversation vanessa nods her head.  â yeah, it was pretty weird but the food was good so iâm not complaining. donât be mean, maybe heâs found his true calling. if this mysterybusters thing doesnât work out, at least he can be likeââ some world class chef or whatever. i donât know. â hopping off the desk, she walks over to hers and pulls out the tupperware with all sorts of sweets in it and walks back over to her hungover friend.  â here you go. hopefully thisâll cure whatever you got going on up there. â

lana.
the evident surprise on vanessaâs face causes a small smile to grow on lanaâs lips.  â  uhmâŠÂ  â  she sighs, deeplyââââ searching for an explanation to how she feels.  â  if iâm being honest, no. iâm not ready for everyone else to find out.  â  and yes, sheâs scared of people finding out. more so now because of the giant platform the group has with netflix. in her short list of fears, that would be solid three for sure.  â  but, i wasnât ready for any of you guys to find out either and you did. it wasnât that bad, other being slapped by naomi and all.  â
â youâre right, it wasnât bad. but we weâre your friends so you know we were gonna have your back either way. â vanessa tells her, furtherâą proving her point.  â but i guess if naomi, blair and daniel can forgive you for that then the carolineâs will too. at the end of the day, you didnât have anything to do with it. if anything, everyoneâll just ask you to make a video explaining it all from your point of view. you know people, our team included, live for this morbid content. â the ends of her lips quirk up into a small smile, nudging lana slightly,  â alright. letâs get this over with. â
eli.
