There was one town that Dean loved more than any other he and his family ever hunted in.Â
The town was a small, conservative, Christian town called Riverville. He hated everything the people did, and what they were like. He hated the town up to its name. But there was one person there, (Y/n) (L/n), who made him love it.Â
The very sight of her was enough to let him momentarily forget about all the hell he went through on a daily basis. Her voice, the words she speaks, was music if he ever heard it.
The moment the â67 Chevy Impala rolled into town it was hated by everyone who saw it. It wasnât anything like the cars of the town (Subaru's and Cadillacs), and therefore the people wouldnât be like the others in this town, and that meant the Winchester family was immediately hated by everyone in Riverville.Â
That one fact made it impossible for them to get information off of people, who would not be the person to help out the outsiders. They didnât want to be the city gossip.
One day, John and Dean were in the library hoping to talk with the librarian who was supposedly a witness to the murder of one of the football players. She looked in her 60â˛s with gray hair and a cross necklace around her neck.
âMaâamâ John started, she turned around to face him and he put up his FBI badge âWe were wondering if you could talk to us about what you saw the night of James Thornâs death.â
The lady eyed the badge, then Dean âHe looks a bit youngâ
âHeâs in trainingâ John answered immediatelyÂ
âWell I donât trust him, or youâ
âMaâam-â John started
âOh why donât you just talk, heâs got a badge, and youâll get arrested for withholding information if you donât.â Dean looked over to see a girl his age dressed in a black leather jacket âOn second thought, go for it. Iâm sure no one would miss the constant âshut upsâ from you even though they only sneezed.â
The woman scowled at her âMiss (L/n) what are you doing here?â she said in a voice that had âget outâ screaming in its undertones.
âOh didnât you hear? Iâm writing an article over the murders, and I wanted to interview you as well. Iâm sure the feds wouldnât mind.â
---
That night all Dean could think about was the girl in this awful town who seemed to be the exact opposite of everyone else. He got out of bed and found John still awake âIâm going for a walkâ
He left before his father could say anything and began down the road, passing many small shops on his way. He didnât know where he was going, but he saw a shadow cross the street in front of him and immediately chased after it.Â
The person had disappeared and Dean stopped to look around and catch his breath, then suddenly he was on the ground with a familiar face looking down at him.
âYou know if you wanted us in this position, you couldâve just askedâ
She groaned and stood up âStop following me you creepâ
âThen stop walking around at night dressed in all black and looking incredibly suspiciousâÂ
âHow else do you expect to get out of this fucking town? Besides, what are you going to do about it?â
Dean remembered the badge in his pocket and held it up âI donât know, question and arrest you for murder?â
âOh right, youâre a fedâ she laughed, he threw a confused look âOh please, Iâm the queen of fake IDs, I know one when I see one. And even if you were really in the FBI, James was my best friend and the only good thing about this damn town, I would never hurt him.â
Deanâs face went soft âIâm sorryâ
âIt's fineâ she brushed it off as they had begun walking in the direction of a burned building âEveryone in this town had it out for him and I, I wouldnât be surprised if his own parents murdered him. God knows whoever killed him is coming after me next.â
âAre things here really that bad?â
âWe were seen as the prime example of who not to be. In this town, everyone glared at us but we didnât think anything of it really, we were used to it. His parents were about to send him to a boarding school in England, he was found dead two nights before he was supposed to leave. No one was even sad about it. Thatâs the awful part, he deserved so much better.â
Dean was about to say something, but any words were killed by the sight of a spirit up the street a block ahead of them. Dean grabbed her hand and they ran as fast as they could to the hotel room where the Winchesters were staying. Dean immediately put salt by the doors and windows.
John and Sam shot out of bed, Sam rushing to grab any iron he could find.
âDean what happened? Who is this?â
âIâm (Y/n)â
âThe spirit was up the street, we ran as fast as we couldâ
âThe what?â
---
(Y/n) woke up to light sneaking past the cheap curtains and the memories from last night flooded in her head when she realized she was still in the hotel room.
Walking with Dean, the ghost, learning about hunting, explaining everything she knew, and finding out that it was after her.
Her fearless world that she owned was suddenly turned upside down and she didnât feel safe anymore unless she was with Dean.
Thatâs when she heard the boys discussing their plan âHow can I help?â
They all looked over at her âOh noâ Dean started âWe arenât putting you in dangerâ
âWell you need a decoyâ Dean began to disagree before she cut him off âCome on, we know that the dead priest is going after the âsinnersâ of the town, and Iâm the one heâs looking for. Heâs going to get me whether you are there or not, personally Iâd like the former.â
Dean groaned âFine, but you canât do anything without us or you will get hurt.â
She smiled and joined in on their plan.
Dean got distracted by simply looking at her, she had him wrapped around his finger and she didnât even know it. He had only met her yesterday and knew that he couldnât leave this town without her.Â
---
The building gave every hint of haunted, it was dark, rotting, and it had burned down years ago. It was the church the priest had lived in, he almost died, but instead was taken outside the church by the smoke in his lungs. (Y/n) was standing in the middle, seemingly alone, with an iron knife hidden in her jacket.
The man appeared in front of her âAlright, you have me, just get this over with.â
Sam and John were at the priestâs grave getting ready to burn it, and Dean was watching (Y/n), while also making sure the spirit didnât leave and find his brother and John.
His face turned into that of hatred and he charged at her, she managed to dodge it, but caught his knife, earning a cut near her shoulder. She didnât even notice the blood running down her arm, instead was to caught up in the situation. But Dean did, and he wanted nothing more to go to her.
She was putting up a fight with her iron knife and near exhausted when the man went up in flames in front of her, John and Sam had done it.
She smiled at Dean as he ran out of the shadows, he immediately looked at her arm.
âIâm going to burn him again for thatâ
She smiled up at him âHey, Iâm fineâ
âI wouldâve fucking killed him myself if you werenâtâ
She laughed and he looked in her eyes, down at her lips, and back to her eyes, and before he knew it, his lips were on hers and he never felt as amazing and free as he did in that moment.

One week later the Winchesters would roll out of Riverville, a new passenger in the backseat. And (Y/n) would leave the town she hated, feeling free for the first time in her life. She would only return once a year to visit the grave of her best friend, James Thorn.
In a few years, she would go with her husband who only loved the town because thatâs where he met her, and two years after that she would return with her first child.
