The Hypocrisy of Selective Morality

In my latest article, I explore the inconsistency within Protestant Christianity that proclaims salvation by faith alone, yet imposes additional requirements on LGBTQ+ individuals. I argue that this contradiction undermines the core message of grace and inclusivity central to the faith. By highlighting this disparity, I aim to encourage a more genuine application of the principle of salvation through faith for all believers, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Recently, I published an article on Medium titled “Washington State Has Enacted Protections for Trans People.” The article covers Washington State’s recent efforts to protect transgender individuals (and others) through three laws passed in 2023, focusing on safe housing for at-risk teens, legal protections against out-of-state interference, and stricter privacy measures for health data. Unfortunately, some conservative voices and media outlets have misrepresented these laws, falsely claiming they interfere with stable families or encourage unsupervised travel. My article clarifies how these protections aim solely to safeguard vulnerable individuals from discrimination and legal threats.

Is it bigotry to stand up in the face of bigotry?

The article "Today’s Reflections: Persecution or Provocation?" examines a TikTok video broadcast by Fox News or OAN, depicting a Subway employee refusing service to a group in Wanaukee, WI, with the claim of Christian persecution. When asked if their shirts were the cause of the refusal, the employee cited a personal matter. The group's shirts, not shown in the video, were later identified as bearing anti-LGBTQIA+ and anti-reproductive rights messages. The author highlights that one group member was David Grisham, known for provocative actions against Christmas traditions, and another was Rich Penkoski, who frequently posts homophobic content online. The author's mother immediately agreed that the incident was Christian persecution, reflecting her susceptibility to media influence despite her education. The author, who is queer, feels unable to come out to her family, particularly due to her father's belief in conspiracy theories about LGBTQIA+ individuals, reinforcing the family's self-victimization narrative against those who oppose their bigotry.

The Ugaritic texts, found in Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra, Syria), date back to the late Bronze Age. They offer insights into the religion of the Canaanites, who lived at the same time as early Israelites. These texts include myths & rituals similar to those in the Bible, mentioning gods like El & Baal Hadad. For instance, Baal's story as a storm god parallels Yahweh in the Psalms, & Baal's battle with the sea god Yam is like Yahweh defeating chaotic waters. These similarities suggest biblical writers were influenced by Canaanite mythology.
