Sent Kwillow an ask where I mentioned wanting to give love to some of the female characters in your shared universe and wanted to come straight to the source to do so! Alex is such an interesting character- I imagine she doesn't have much in the way of hobbies these days aside from trying to work towards stopping The Shadow. But did she have any in her youth? I'd love to know more about her and her interests! What would make her happy, outside of the obvious (completion of her goals)

Alex would say she has no time for hobbies. In truth, spending long, cold winters trapped in a bunker does leave you quite a bit of downtime, but she hates feeling idle. Whatever she's doing, it has to be productive, it has to be useful. She mostly busies herself with maintaining the armory and mechanic work alongside Ridge, but there comes a point sometime around February when all the guns have been cleaned, all the snowmobiles have been serviced, and everything is running maddingly, insultingly smoothly. If given the choice between idleness and peeling potatoes or swabbing floors, she will choose the Useful Activity every time. She feels there's nothing demeaning about contributing to the common good, even if she doesn't exactly like accidentally dipping her wingtips in gross mop-water. It's certainly better than sitting around being useless.

Before Alex's life became quite so fucked up, she did have a few hobbies, though many of them still kinda rode the boundary between "hobby" and "practical skill". Exercise, hunting, and woodcarving, for example. There's some story to the woodcarving bit that I'll get into in a different post, since this one's already a little long... but suffice to say the things she hates most are feeling stuck, stationary, and useless, and so even the things she does "to relax" are tasks that can be justified as "useful" and involve low-stakes feelings of progression. I think even in an ideal, non-apocalyptic world she'd be inclined toward those sorts of activities!
