So currently I'm doing criminal law, and we have just finished up sexual offences a few weeks ago. I have to say - it's draining to study. Some of the cases you read about makes you feel a little queezy, and they don't always sound that far out of the ordinary. It makes me wonder sometimes how many of these crimes go unnoticed, mainly because people don't know they're crimes so dont report them. It's pretty ordinary, and it pretty much confirms to me why criminal law isn't where I want to go. Good on all those law students out there who want to go out and fight against the bad guys and lock them in jail, but I'm going to put it out there - it isn't going to be fun. Sure it will be rewarding at times, but it will be also rather depressing at others. 

Personally, my dreams lie elsewhere. I'd much rather pursue other avenues, in the political and corporate law demain, rather than enter criminal law. You can still make a diference there, if you're so inclined. I just can't get over how many people I know entered law school thinking they wanted to become criminal law barristers, or prosecutors, because it is 'interesting'. I'm wondering if eventually there will be a dose of reality where people see what they're getting themselves in to. And, if after seeing all that, they decide criminal law for them I say cudos. 

Yet I don't think its a bad thing to say it's not for you either. There are other interesting and influential areas in the law.
