Perks Of Being Kaitlyn

Yesterday I was organizing my bookshelf when I discovered my copy of Twilight the first book in the Twilight Saga.  As I began to reread the book I fell in love with it all over again.  I still haven’t grasped onto the concept of people hating Bella Swan!

 For a long time, I’ve tried to figure out why they hate her.  Is it because she found true love at a young age?  Or that she wasn’t your typical book character?  I’m not quite sure.

 I discovered the Twilight Saga at the age of thirteen at a Barnes and Noble when I was on vacation.  It was the book series that got me interested in reading books.  Since the day I first read Twilight, I have always found Bella a character that I could relate to. The reason I suppose that I could relate to her was she didn’t have a lot of friends and had a love for books. Bella didn’t get along with people her own age, just like it. She was different but in my own opinion a good different. Bella never did drugs nor drank alcohol.  Heck, she spent one Saturday afternoon outside reading a Jane Austen novel! Bella made me feel like it was okay to be different; that it was okay to be clumsy and to be the bookworm. 

I think that everyone started hating Twilight when they read New Moon. Okay, I admit that she was a little reckless in New Moon. She did suffer from something a lot of us have, though.  Anxiety.  Anxiety made Bella feel weak but she tried to push through it.  With anxiety, it has different effects on different people. I feel like New Moon was supposed to make us feel that it’s okay to get anxiety.  Don’t get me wrong, though, New Moon is my least favorite of the series.  Without New Moon though we wouldn’t understand Jacob Black like we do today.

Everyone has a dark time in their life, and New Moon was Bella’s dark time; without the bad times, how would we know the good times?  The answer is that we wouldn’t.  We would not know the good times if there weren’t bad times. As for the theory that Edward and Bella’s relationship was an abusive one, I would strongly disagree on that.  Edward never hit her, he never verbally abused Bella.  Instead, he tried to protect her.  Edward didn’t want anything to harm her. None of the Cullen’s wanted anything bad to happen to Bella.

 Another thing about the Twilight Saga that I’ve heard is some readers believe they fell in love too quickly.  My thoughts on this theory are that Bella wasn’t in love with Edward the first time she saw him. I think she found him interesting.  That she found Edward to be different from the other guys. One of the things that I love about Edward is that he stuck with his family. His family meant the world to him.  That was another thing that I think Bella found interesting about him. Honestly, how many teen guys do you know that spend a lot of time with their family? 

The thing that I find funny is that the people I know that hate Twilight haven't read it. They’ve only seen the movie.  If you haven’t read the series you shouldn’t judge it.  You should never judge any book before you read it. I believe that the Twilight Saga book series will become a classic.
