As a young girl, I always thought that true beauty was found in the biggest smile or the brightest laugh. As I’ve grown I’ve seen the effects of pain and how body image effects people everywhere whether positive or negative. I grew up with mixed feelings about my body. Some days people would call me fat, others would call me beautiful. In the 8th grade I lost weight in a very dangerous weight. I had a gaming addiction that would cause me to forget to eat. When I realized I didn’t eat, I’d go in the kitchen and eat something small, like a piece of chicken the size of my thumb or a slice of cheese. That would be it for the day. I noticed soreness from holding my tablet for hours, so I started exercising while playing my game. I lost 20lbs and got nothing but positive feedback, so I thought starving was okay. Whenever I gained a little weight, I’d just starve and work it off. It effected my metabolism so that no amount of small or healthy eating effects my body in anyway. It’s almost impossible to lose weight now. 75% of women in the U.S. suffer from an eating disorder or disordered eating. Thank you Alissa for inviting me to this event ❤️ I’ve gained so much encouragement and hope from #nedawalk2019. You are beautiful inside and out and have the brightest smile!
