I’ve been thinking about Panthro as a character a lot lately, especially his dynamics with his other characters in the OG show. What are your personal plans for him your AU? Is he still a presumed dead general of Claudus’s like in the 2011 reboot or do you have other plans for him?

SO sorry its taken me so long to respond to this one, with artfight and irl work my plate has been hella full lately…… Summer is busy asf for me I fear🥲

And Panthro... My next character to focus on (I have been fighting with his design for WEEKS)...

As my first major story arc consists of the classic Traveling Group That Picks Up People Along The Way, Panthro would become a party member not long after Cheetara. Prior to this however he had been tracking down the young princes after hearing of/coming upon the destroyed Thundera City, of which he had been exiled from many years before that.

Panthro’s story is… Complicated, I think in part due to his own internal struggles and conflicts. At this moment in time my plans for him do involve the royal family and service in the military, however I think having a connection to Leona/working alongside her before her marriage to Claudus is the route I’m going down for him. I see a lot of potential for a friendship between the two, as well as him having a lot of loyalty to her, and eventually her sons. This connection to Leona would also be a key aspect to his exile, likely after her death, which leads to a lot of guilt on Panthro’s end.

I do wanna go more in depth with this when I have the time to fully write out his lore and story, but a lot his themes revolve around mistakes and guilt, and the want to atone but not having the courage to do so until it’s too late.

Lion-O and Tygra……… I touched a little bit on my thoughts on their 2011 dynamic in this post, but to summarize I struggled with the jealousy Tygra had over Lion-O at times and didn’t want to include that into this version of them. This led to me reworking both of them when it came time their personalities and their dynamic with each other. Still going for tragic siblings but with a different approach…

Tygra is still the elder brother and adopted into the royal family. After Queen Leona’s death he ended up with a lot more responsibility concerning his younger brother, but he never resented him for it. Although he doesn’t outwardly show it with his emotions he cherishes Lion-O and would do anything for him, not just as his older brother but as his sworn protector. Because of his father and his plans regarding a certain prophecy, Tygra is subjected to a plethora of knowledge regarding Lion-O and said prophecy, but this is evidently more of a burden on him than anything. Once again never holding Lion-O at fault for this as he had no say in it either. Both of them are kind of… Stuck when it comes to the fate of the world and King Claudus’s wishes, and for a while Tygra is blindly leading the both of them down what he assumes to be the only path…

Lion-O did in fact grow up rather sheltered, mostly a repercussion of Leona’s wishes for her boys. Claudus had a firm belief in the prophecy and had faith Lion-O was their best chance of taking down Mumm-Ra, but Leona… She had her reasons of not wanting that kind of pressure put on her son. She wanted the boys to have a proper childhood away from war and combat. If Claudus had it his way he would have Lion-O in intensive training and battle-ready, but he made a promise to his late wife whom he loved so, and Lion-O was promised his childhood, receiving the usual amount of combat training from Jaga and Grune.

Lion-O’s view on his role vastly changes throughout the story, but before Thundera City fell he was only 14 and more-so focused on ditching his guards to explore the city. I think there was a bit of a yearning to see Thundera from beyond what he knew, but he also found comfort in what was familiar. He didn’t really understand the full scope of what was out there other than that Thundera City was a place of peace and the lands were filled with conflict and danger. So when the sudden shift from the comfort he was accustomed to, then being forced to flee from the only home that he ever knew as it turned to ash was jarring at the very least. There was also the info-bomb of Lion-O’s role in taking down Mumm-Ra and what he was fated to accomplish that he simultaneously had to grapple with. I think he may have been angry with Tygra at first, and with his late father, but quickly set his sights on the Sword of Omens, almost adopting the same blind faith that their father had with the prophecy and with magic itself. He believed that getting the sword would be the pivotal step in their success.

Do you intend on utilizing any elements of Pumyra having been the ThunderCats only healer from the original show? Does she have a relationships with Lynx-O and/or Bengali at the start or do you plan on bringing them in later/not at all?

Hello!! I’ve really appreciated your interaction and curiosity with my AU! It’s definitely helped me stay in the zone and flesh out the world and lore even more :)

When it comes to Pumyra I definitely have spent the most time humming and hawing about her compared to everyone else. I feel like she’s definitely received some of the most character revisions from me so far as I like to put a lot of thought and care into my characters, and even more so to characters that already exist that I am doing my own revamp of.

I’m keeping her medical expertise to a degree. She definitely has more experience as a combat medic at this point in the story, and she’s yet to join the Thundercats as an active member but rather would be making consistent appearances in the story as the group travels and encounters various conflicts. There’s always the possibility she gains more experience as a healer as time goes on, maybe even joining the core Thundercats group eventually, but for at least the first part she is still young and heavily focused on the resistance (she’s 15 as of the start of the story!).

Bengali is on my to-do list of characters to sort out still, but he is more than likely also going to be a younger member of the resistance alongside Pumyra. Lynx-O has a slightly separate role as acting as a mentor for Lion-O for a period of time, and doesn’t have any direct connection to Pumyra or Bengali at this moment. Short answer YES they all will have involvement in the story but not necessarily with each other… For now…

Ahh, a simple question I have a slightly more complicated answer for...

Similar to the 2011 series, Thundera is a nation led by a Semi-Constitutional Monarchy that is a part of third earth. However as war with neighboring nations and Mumm-Ra's army itself is almost a constant, the crown's army often had to prioritize certain areas or borders.

After Queen Leona's death, King Claudus made some... Questionable choices, especially in the eyes of his subjects. These were choices that had repercussions on Thunderians that dwelled farther from the capital. Pumyra and her family were among these citizens, and being in an area unprotected by the royal army unfortunately led to her parents deaths.

Pumyra held onto a not-so-fond opinion of the monarchy, the members of the royal family, and other government officials. This point of view only strengthened as she grew and was witness to more warfare and loss, eventually leading her to join a small resistance that both rejected the monarchy's approach to governing and conflict, and fought to protect the smaller folk who couldn't fight for themselves.

Lion-O grew up as royalty and had never left Thundera City until its subsequential destruction. The capital and its inhabitants had been extremely sheltered from outside conflicts, and Lion-O especially had a very loose grasp on what was actually happening outside of the city borders.

After Thundera City fell and Lion-O and Tygra were left to their own devices they, along with Cheetara, came across Pumyra and the resistance, the latter agreeing to shelter them for the time being. Pumyra was not to fond of this decision to put it lightly, but her superiors were not going to turn down a refugee of war no matter their prior status.

Once again to make a long story short, Pumyra has a LOT of issues with Lion-O's place in the monarchy and what he represents, and that he is a kid with still so much unawareness about the world grinds her gears EVEN MORE. The fact that he is technically the current monarch of Thundera and is completely unfit to lead anything at this moment only adds to that.

So yes, she does temporarily have to deal with a hyperactive kid that also happens to be the last remaining pillar of an entire system she despises. She's not entirely thrilled about it.
