ok but imagine in that scene where joyce is sitting next to will and mike comes in, joyce starts having a little cry and she says something like āheās the most important thing in my lifeā or āI canāt imagine life without himā ⦠but as she says it we get a shot of mike staring at will and you realise heās thinking the same thing ohhhhh

rewatching episode 4 and the shot of them walking across the field while joyce talks is timed so perfectly it cannot be accidental ⦠āsometimes people just need someone to believe in themā (mike brushes shoulders with will) āand then they can do amazing thingsā (will looks at mike, mike looks back at will) ⦠like come onnnn
can someone please give me byler reassurance. I just saw the attitude interview clip where finn is asked about byler and he says āto be honest ā thatās something ā if it did happen in the show ā wouldnāt feel that earned I feel likeā ⦠like I was so confident after finishing episode 4 but then I opened tiktok and saw that and now it feels like all my dreams have been shattered
ok look, I am having byler doubt, I canāt lie. the conversation between robin and will about tammy has really done a number on me. but you know what, I refuse to go down without a fight so let me say one thing. by the end of episode 4, will has already followed through on what robin said. heās stopped being scared of who he is, and heās realised his powers. that arc is done now. the self-love arc is complete. but weāve still got all of volume 2 left. why have will complete this arc so early on if thatās the only story heās going to get? why not save it for the big finale? is it because thereās something even bigger going on?
what if, at the start of volume 2, weāre going to see a new side to will. confident, independent, and most importantly, not interested in mike anymore (or so he says). heās decided to follow robinās advice, and heās thriving because of it. but throughout volume 2, we see more scenes of mike and will together, and mike starts to realise that oh no, heās had feelings for will this whole time. maybe itās in volume 2 that we finally get the goddamn painting lie reveal. and when will is in danger, mike confesses, and finally, just when he had decided to give up and move on, will gets his love interest after all because you know what, you can be independent and self-fulfilled and still get to be with the love of your life.

OK so I just finished episode four and I need to get my thoughts out. First of all, I hate to say it, but this is the worst writing of any season. The dialogue is so cliche. The jokes are so corny. The exposition is so contrived. The whole thing sounds like a shitty Marvel movie. There has always been room for comedy in Stranger Things, itās one of the showās greatest strengths, but in previous seasons - especially S1 and S2 - the funny moments always felt grounded. They felt like real moments between actual people. The jokes this season are the complete opposite - every single one is like a wink wink nudge at the camera, they donāt sound like things people would say in real life. It completely takes viewers out of the immersion and it just makes every piece of dialogue sound cheap. Iām going to have to rewatch to find all the examples I noticed but the ones I remember off the top of my head were Will making a joke about his bowl cut and Robin with the whole āI like dickā jokes. Like ok I may have giggled a little bit but seriously, why are we having the characters make these lazy, breaking the fourth wall, look how self aware we are jokes. Itās a complete tone shift.
Second of all, the Holly Wheeler/Henry Creel plotline. Oh my god I hate it. Iāve always hated Henry as the main villain. How do you go from the Mindflayer - this ancient, unknowable, Lovecraftian monster - to this stupid blond twink who wants to take over the world because idk his parents ignored him and he loved spiders or some shit. I absolutely hate this character. I was more open to him when I thought he was just a secondary villain (the Mindflayerās āfive star generalā as Dustin puts it), and maybe he still is and thatāll be explored in the second volume but right now it looks like he really is the final boss and Iām just so tired of it. And what is this stupid Mr Whatsit plot. I physically cringe every time they bring it up. āOhh Iām the evil villain and I lure children and bring them to my maaagical mansion where they can eat pancakes and ice cream but really Iām using them to take over the world muhahahaā. Like just put the fries in the bag bro. And why are all the Holly scenes shot like that. Why is it all so bright and colourful and clean. Like I understand why, Henry has kidnapped her and heās trying to trick her Other Mother style by making everything seem nice and whimsical. But I just donāt think this concept fits the vibes of the show. Again, itās a complete tone shift. I feel like Iām watching a Disney film not Stranger Things.
And finally letās talk about Byler. To be honest, Iām so worried. When I saw the scene of them walking in the field and having that flirty chat I was so fucking excited. I was like, oh my god, itās actually happening. Weāre actually right. And then we jumped to the conversation between Will and Robin and my hopes just came absolutely crashing down. What do you mean youāre telling him about Tammy Thompson, the character you had a crush on but ultimately had to move on from because you realised you had all this self-love and didnāt need validation from anyone else. Hey Duffers, I donāt want Willās arc to be nothing but a reheated, queer self-love story. I want that to be part of it, absolutely! But if youāre telling me that I have to sit through some stupid scene where Will confesses his feelings to Mike, Mike lets him down gently and tells him heāll always be his friend, and then see epilogue Will with some utter random for a love interest because ohh heās learned to accept himself and he doesnāt need Mike anymore ⦠Iām literally gonna lose my mind.
So yeah I think thatās everything. To say Iām disappointed by this season is a total understatement. I think it has its moments - like I do really like the dynamic between Will and Robin even if I donāt much like the direction they seem to be taking the plot, I love seeing Mike take on his role as a leader, I love the tension between Steve and Dustin, I love that Will has powers now. But other than that Iām really struggling to find things about it that I like. The whole thing just seems like a complete dumpster fire to me. I just hope Volume 2 can redeem it.
