A long-ish story about Tony Award Winner Katrina Lenk (@katrinaslenk is that you or a fan page??)
This weekend would be my fatherâs 65th birthday. After he passed away in 2016, I had my friend Chris LaRosa orchestrate this song from âIn the Beginningâ to add as the final album on @chargingmoosenyâs inaugural project, Give My Regards to Broadway: Classic Showtunes Reimagined.Â
Chris arranged a beautiful piece including a string quartet. A few days before we recorded, I was still struggling to find a violist, and I asked my friend Erica who was playing violin if she had any recommendations. She said âyes my friend Katrina is an incredible violistâ and gave me her email address. She emailed back that she was more than happy to play viola on the track, and be filmed for the video, and did so for a far below industry rate. To my fault, I hadnât googled her prior to then and didnât know who she was. She was incredible. She showed up on the day, played the hell out of the song, and was so unbelievably gracious and wonderful to work with.
That night I googled everyone and discovered how successful she was/is and how little she needed to be helpful to me on this song. Iâll never forget her being willing to do something that meant so much to someone she truly didnât know.
Thank you Katrina, and congrats on your unbelievably deserved Tony award.
