My opinion on the rust revolutions (aka I'm ranking the songs)
after the name of the song will be the type of song and my familiarity with the person/band that worked on the new version of the song.
It is very important to note that all of these are my personal opinions.
10th kill us all BVSSIC and Staysick (remix) (unfamiliar)
This version is ok but I feel like I can’t find the original melody in this at all. (the previous statement could also be a good thing for some but I do like the original sound so that could be a bias in my opinion) Really the only similarities I can find between this one and the original are the lyrics. Feels awkward towards the beginning but towards the end starts to get better.
Not bad, it just feels a bit awkward and doesn't fit my tastes fully.
9th Boulder Tracey Brakes (remix) (unfamiliar)
I do like this version but it does lose the original melody. I still think their version is done pretty well. I feel like their incorporation of the lyrics is done well.
Good, not quite what I expected but was pleasantly surprised.
8th Be alone mystery skulls (remix) (familiar)
When I first heard this my initial thought was that this felt like it didn’t fit and felt awkward but now that I’ve listened to this a few more times I actually quite like it I think they do a good job of working their style into the original song.
Good, feels a bit awkward towards the beginning but quickly grew on me.
7th Malibu pier sugar vision (remix) (unfamiliar)
Works with the melody of the original song and I really like it. Honestly feels like a version that younger TLT would’ve made. I like how the song feels jumpy like something you bump your head to but still sing along with.
Very good, kept the original melody and kept the lyrics singable which I do love.
6th rust YI (remix) (unfamiliar)
Works with the original melody and it’s done really well. Feels like a song that would be played in a movie/tv-show showing the uprising of civilians against a tyrannical government whilst cutting back and forth between the march and the fight and I think that is done really well. I like the use of what feels like marching sounds in the beginning of the song.
Great song. Definitely a song that I would make animations in my day dreams to.
5th this will be our year QBomb (complete remake) (familiar)
QBomb did a great job taking this song and making it in their style. The guitar is played extremely well and the drums hit hard. Really my main qualm is that it’s so short but really that's not a huge problem and it’s due to the original song.
Really great, feels like something I could see played live.
4th Orphans Boom Kitty (remix) (unfamiliar)
Works well with the original melody. Kind of feels like a Just Shapes And Beats song. Feels bouncy and bassy and I’m trying not to repeat things I’ve said for other songs here but that’s kinda hard.
Really great another song I’d make daydream animations to but specifically for a JSAB level.
3rd Goliath Savlonic (complete remake) (somewhat familiar)
When I heard that the people who made the original Epoch would not only be working on a song in this album but my favorite song from this album I was shaking physically and just like the next one they did not disappoint again I think they worked their style beautifully into the original song and it is amazing. It makes my brain feel weird in a very good way.
God doesn’t love me.
2nd I walk ahead of you CG5 & Mcgwire (complete remake) (very familiar)
I’ve been a big fan of CG5 and Mcgwire for a while, CG5’s work on the last remix album was great and after listening Mcgwires previous work with TLT I was very excited to hear that these two would be working together on a song and they did not disappoint you can feel the two styles of these creators working intertwined together in this song and it is magnificent.
Definitely added to any future playlist I make.
1st Somebody Tokyo Machine (remix) (unfamiliar)
Completely unexpected 1st place song for me because I had never really heard of tokyo machine but holy this song is great it blasts my ear perfectly and and it works super well with the original melody whilst still adding their own sound and it’s still largely singable which always gains points from me.
Are you proud of me now?
Overall: do I think this album is better than the original? No but I think that’ll be the case for all remix albums but that’s not a bad thing. I still love this album along with Zero One Reloaded and it makes me excited for not just future albums but also the reimagined albums that come after. Great work done from all creators in this album has widened my music taste and I will definitely be checking out the people I’m unfamiliar with after this.
